SPECIAL SPEAKER AT ST. DOMINIC The World is Overpopulated?

“Not so fast,” says Steven Mosher, President of the Population Research Institute, “there is plenty of room on God’s green Earth for all 7 billion of us.” Come listen to Steven debunk the myth of overpopulation!

Sunday, February 21st at 5:00 pm

As an atheist and pro-choice anthropologist undertaking a doctoral thesis at Stanford University, Steen Mosher had a major conversion in 199 following his groundbreaking study of life in a rural Chinese village. His first-hand observations of China’s brutal one-child policy saw him denounced by the Chinese Government as a spy and led him to Father Paul Marx—the founder of PRI—and to his conversion to Catholicism.

FEBRUARY DIOCESAN COLLECTION Would you like to give an extra donation?

The Diocese requests a second collection each month for many special causes that all Catholic Dioceses support. If you want to give a donation over and above our weekly tithe, we have provided a box marked for this purpose in the Narthex or you can put your donation in the envelope provided in the packet of offertory envelopes you receive (or in a plain envelope marked where you want your donation to go) and put it in the offertory basket. The SECOND mandated tithe for February is set for February 14th to the Black and Indian Missions.

PRESENTATION FOR JANUARY Sunday, February 28th at 9:30 am

“Jubilee Year of Mercy—What is a Jubilee Year

and what is Mercy about really?”

On the 4th Sunday of each month, there is a short presentation between the 8 am and 11 am Masses. These are wonderful opportunities to get a glimpse into different aspects of our faith. There is no sign-up or commitment. Just show up and enjoy. We hope to see you there!

Laity Engaging Laity (LEL) LEL is a Diocesan effort focused on Catholic spiritual growth. In 2016 LEL will focus on growing in holiness by “Living Mercy” in conjunction with the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy inaugurated by Pope Francis. On Saturday, February 20th LEL will host a mini-retreat which will include a “pilgrimage” to one of the two Diocesan Holy Doors. We will also discuss the plenary indulgence attached to this action. Join us on Saturday, February 20th from 9:00 am to Noon at Corpus Christi Parish Hall for an introduction to Mercy and the Jubilee Year. Questions: contact Brian Krutka at 238-6291.

Ponderings of a Parochial Vicar My Dear Parishioners, During the season of Lent, we are called to re-pentance and to focus on the Last Four Things. In the Tradition of the Catholic Church, the Last Four Things are Death, Judgment, Heaven and Hell. Here is a summary of the Doctrine on the Last Things: Death is the separation of man’s mortal body and immortal soul. It comes to all men as a re-sult of original sin. It is a temporary state, for at the end of the world, all men shall rise again to be judged by Christ. Thus the whole man, body and soul, will be rewarded for the good or evil that he has done, body and soul, in this life. At the moment of death, each human person is judged by God based on his conduct in this life, and goes immediately to his reward or pun-ishment. Moreover, at the end of the world, Je-sus Christ will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead. At that time, God’s whole plan for the world shall be revealed, and his mercy and justice demonstrated. Heaven is the eternal state of perfect happiness resulting from the face-to-face vision of God, which is the reward of those who have served Him in this life. Hell is the eternal state of torment and despair, which awaits those who, in this life, have freely rejected God and the happiness, which He of-fers. Before the end of the world, there will be an in-termediate state called purgatory. There, those who are bound for heaven, but whose love for God is still marred by some imperfection, under-go a temporary period of purifying suffering. When this purification is complete, they are fit to enter God’s presence and are admit-ted to the joys of heaven. Make this Lent count!! Go to confes-sion FREQUENTLY!

Your servant in Christ, Fr. John

January 28, 2016

Dear Friends in Christ, On the first Sunday of Lent, February 14, 2016, Catholics throughout the United States are being asked to help support the National Black and Indian Mission Collection. Pope Francis reminds us that everyone is meant to evangelize. As we embark on another year of evangelization in the Black Catholic, Native American and Alaskan Native communities, everyone is encouraged to make a difference by offering their prayers for the fruitful support of the missions in the United States and to consider expressing concretely their Christian solidarity through sacrificial offerings.

Your support impacts the daily pastoral work of our bishops, consecrated religious women and men, and lay-leadership who labor on Indian reservations, urban centers, Black Catholic and Alaskan Native parishes, mission schools and the many, many dioce-san programs and projects that strengthen the work of the Gospel.

It is only through the constant generosity of everyone that evangelization efforts are multiplied a thousand fold. The gift of hope brings a renewed interest to all the local Churches across the country. Remember, when a child learns how to make the sign of the cross or a catechist shares Bible stories, you are there because of your prayers and support. Bless you!

I ask everyone in the Diocese of Colorado Springs to make a sacrificial gift to the 2016 Black and Indian Mission Collec-tion. Your generosity to this collection reflects the depths of your faith and your willingness to help our brothers and sisters in need; it is an opportunity to evangelize and further the missionary cause of bringing the Gospel to our African American and Native Amer-ican family.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Most Reverend Michael J. Sheridan Bishop of Colorado Springs
