Reflection God speaks. Lets pause there for a moment. This fundamental truth is at the heart of faith. In fact, it is at the heart of all reality—of creation, of sal- vation, of love, life, and knowledge. The foundation of all reality is ordered by Gods spoken Word. God does not speak gibberish, but a perfectly formu- lated thought, a thought generated from all eternity, a thought that is, in the tru- est sense, one with God. Gods Word is Wisdom. Gods Word is Power. What God says is. And when God speaks, His Word accomplishes what it was intended to do. God does not speak falsely. God does not deceive. God does not go back on His promise. What is more, this God speaks to you and me. Thats amazing! What does He say? What could the almighty God want to say to me? Listen—listen to the Word of the Lord! The Word is a person, and His Name is Jesus; listen to Him! There is nothing more im- portant to do. To listen to Christ and to receive Him is to receive God Himself. Let us not throw His words to the wind, let us not let them be trampled underfoot, let us not let them be choked out, but let us ponder them day and night. Once a week is not enough. Kendrick Fr. Travis and the vocations commission sent us this message: "This summer our diocese has the honour once again of ordaining men to the Permanent Diaconate. The celebration was postponed and will most likely be invite only, but it will be at Sacred Heart Cathedral on August 10, the feast of St. Lawrence. As a way of showing our solidarity with them we are asking all parishes to provide a spiritual bouquet…. Some may be asking, "What is a Spiritual Bouquet?" Spiritual Bouquets are prayers or devotional acts that someone (the giver) has or will offer for someone else (the recipient). The idea is that each prayer is like a flower, and combined prayers are a bou- quet offered to the individual. It can be given from an individ- ual or a parish to express joy and/or best wishes. The Voca- tions Commission suggests that a large card be made from heavy paper, perhaps with a bouquet of flowers on it, with per- haps a scripture verse. Along the sides should be the signatures of those pledging, along with the action they are pledging: be it a Rosary, Holy Hour, Days of Fasting, Act of Charity, Special Novenas, or any other spiritual action. It is our hope that they will keep these bouquets close to his heart for the rest of their lives!I think having everybody sign could be problematic at this time, so I suggest people send their pledges by email or phone/text to Carmen or myself and we can ask some of our more artistic brothers and sisters to compile the prayer pledges onto a beautiful card or something.
