It is a day of fast and abstinence from meat for all adult Catholics in good health. The imposition of ashes will take place at the 9:00 a.m. (English) & 7:30 p.m. Tri-lingual Mass. Ashes will also be dis-tributed at a 12 noon (English) service. Blessed

palms from last year can be dropped off until the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday in the morning for this year’s ashes.

St. Vincent de Paul Car Program Gives Back Vincentian Outreach Program

St. Augustine should share in the profits. For every car, truck or van, running or not. St. Vincent de Paul will give back to our church $75/$200 per vehicle. Maybe you don’t have a vehicle, but a family member, friend or neighbor has an old or neglected vehicle in their driveway that they would like to dis-pose of. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Thursday Volunteers are needed to help with food deliveries on Thursdays for the St. Augustine Helping Hands Food Pan-try. There are usually two big deliveries a month — 75 to 150 cases of food. Volunteers are needed to help store the food. February 12, 2017 This Sunday Gospel continues to carry us deeper into the Ser-mon on the Mount, begun a couple of weeks ago. Now we hear Jesus repeatedly telling us, “You have heard it said…,but I say…” And what Jesus says is really tough: not just don’t kill, but don’t be angry; not just don’t commit adultery, but don’t even look lustfully at another; not just don’t take a false oath, but don’t swear at all. Yikes! How do we do that? Can we do that? It would seem that Jesus thinks we can. He trusts us to be able to be righteous, loving, honest. He challenges us not only to give to charity, but to do justice, to give to the needy, for example, but also to work to correct the systems that allow people to be needy. Jesus is calling us to our best selves. Let’s give it a try. ~Pax Christi Metro New York
