MISSIONARIES OF MERCY Paul’s back! After last week’s “violent abuse,”

opponents organized a lynch mob that beat Paul nearly to

death. But call Paul the “energizing evangelist,”

transforming deadly cruelty into life-giving zeal. Paul’s

past courage should inspire our commitment; Revelation’s

future “new heaven, new earth” should inspire our

optimism. But Revelation’s present assurance, “Behold,

God’s dwelling is with the human race,” should challenge

us to become “missionaries of mercy.” Because Pope

Francis declared that the Church’s credibility is completely

dependent on our showing unconditional mercy. Mercy,

said Francis, makes the Church, the world, and everyone

young again, reawakened to life’s noblest virtues. Fittingly,

in today’s Gospel Jesus reinforces that theme: “This is how

all will know you are my disciples, if you have love for one

another.” Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

WANT To JOIN The Church or at

least LEARN about what we believe

and why we do the things we do? RCIA (The Rite of Christian Initiation of

Adults) is the process by which one becomes a

Catholic or completes Sacraments missed

along the way (Confirmation, Communion, Marriage

blessings) or just learn more of “the Catholic Way of Be-

ing Church”. Ask yourself: Could God be inviting me?

How do I sign up? Simply call Janie Banner, Director of

RCIA at 364-7626 OR the church office at 364-6150.

GOD Bless you!

St. Augustine writes in his Confessions, ““Late have I loved you, O Beauty ever ancient, ever new, late have

I loved you! You were within me, but I was outside, and it was there that I searched for you. In my unloveliness I

plunged into the lovely things which you created. You were with me, but I was not with you. Created things kept me

from you; yet if they had not been in you they would have not been at all. You called, you shouted, and you broke

through my deafness. You flashed, you shone, and you dispelled my blindness. You breathed your fragrance on me;

I drew in breath and now I pant for you. I have tasted you, now I hunger and thirst for more. You touched me, and I

burned for your peace.”

From the throne in heaven John the writer of the book of Revelations hears, “Behold I make all things new.”

It is a scary proposition to be made new. To put the old, the broken, the hurt, and the painful aside and allow the

grace of God to make us young, to heal, to repair, to forgive, and to soothe. The sacrifice of Jesus upon the Cross,

upon the table of the Last Supper, in the glory of the Resurrection is the great re-creating of a broken and fallen

world. Not only does his gift of inestimable love offer salvation to all of humanity and restores us to even great dig-

nity, his love also redeems all of creation. Augustine’s experience of God as Beautiful is an invitation for all believ-

ers to seek Love and be remade.
