24 From there he set out and went away to the region of Tyre. He entered a house and did not want any-

one to know he was there. Yet he could not escape notice, 25 but a woman whose little daughter had an

unclean spirit immediately heard about him, and she came and bowed down at his feet. 26 Now the

woman was a Gentile, of Syrophoenician origin. She begged him to cast the demon out of her daughter. 27 He said to her, “Let the children be fed first, for it is not fair to take the children’s food and throw it to

the dogs.” 28 But she answered him, “Sir, even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.” 29 Then he said to her, “For saying that, you may go—the demon has left your daughter.” 30 So she went

home, found the child lying on the bed, and the demon gone.

Responding to God’s Word

Hymn 796 We Come to You for Healing, Lord LAND OF REST

Affirmation of Faith (unison) (from A Brief Statement o f Faith) We trust in Jesus Christ, fully human, fully God. Jesus proclaimed the reign of God: preaching good news

to the poor and release to the captives, teaching by word and deed and blessing the children, healing the

sick and binding up the brokenhearted, eating with outcasts, forgiving sinners, and calling all to repent

and believe the gospel. Unjustly condemned for blasphemy and sedition, Jesus was crucified, suffering the

depths of human pain and giving his life for the sins of the world. God raised this Jesus from the dead,

vindicating his sinless life, breaking the power of sin and evil, delivering us from death to life eternal.

Amen.

Presentation of Tithes & Offerings

Sung Response Hymn 607, Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise Christ, all people here below; praise Holy Spirit evermore;

praise Triune God, whom we adore. Amen.

Prayer of Dedication

The Sealing of God’s Word

The Sacrament of Holy Communion Invitation to the Lord’s Table

The Great Prayer of Thanksgiving

The Lord be with you.

And also with you.

Lift up your hearts.

We lift them up to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

It is right to give God thanks and praise….

Isaiah 35: 1-10

The wilderness and the dry land shall be glad,

the desert shall rejoice and blossom;

like the crocus 2 it shall blossom abundantly,

and rejoice with joy and singing.

The glory of Lebanon shall be given to it,

the majesty of Carmel and Sharon.

They shall see the glory of the Lord,

the majesty of our God.

3

Strengthen the weak hands,

and make firm the feeble knees.

4

Say to those who are of a fearful heart,

“Be strong, do not fear!

Here is your God.

He will come with vengeance,

with terrible recompense.

He will come and save you.”

5

Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened,

and the ears of the deaf unstopped;

6

then the lame shall leap like a deer,

and the tongue of the speechless sing for joy.

For waters shall break forth in the wilderness,

and streams in the desert;

7

the burning sand shall become a pool,

and the thirsty ground springs of water;

the haunt of jackals shall become a swamp,

the grass shall become reeds and rushes.

8

A highway shall be there,

and it shall be called the Holy Way;

the unclean shall not travel on it,

but it shall be for God’s people;

no traveler, not even fools, shall go astray.

9

No lion shall be there,

nor shall any ravenous beast come up on it;

they shall not be found there,

but the redeemed shall walk there.

10

And the ransomed of the Lord shall return,

and come to Zion with singing;

everlasting joy shall be upon their heads;

they shall obtain joy and gladness,

and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

porarily suspending our volunteer program, and are seeking

to hire an assistant to the director. This person will be respon-

[email protected]. This position is part-time at 20

hours/week, and temporary but will last no less than the 2020-

2021 school year.

Diaconate Outreach

In a effort to continue to minister to St. Andrew during this

time of separation and COVID-19, the deacons would like to

extend helping hands. If you are in the high-risk category or

to run to the store...pick up my medications...grab my kitty

some kibble." Email the deacons at diaco-

up instructions, payment method, your address and phone

number and we will help locate a volunteer to courier your

item to you. This will be a no contact delivery. The volunteer

Give-a-Meal - $2.29

St. Andrew donated $1,396 to the Give-a-Meal program in

June! Over $700 was given during the VBS drive! Thank you

for supporting the needs of those who are experiencing food

insecurity during this time. A monetary donation of $2.29

feeds a person in need for a week. Donations can be made by

mail or online. Please write Give-a-Meal-a-Month on your en-

velope or check when giving by mail. To give online, visit

standrewdenton.com/give and be sure to choose Give-a-Meal

from the fund options to the right of your monetary donation.

The Denton Community Food Center (DCFC) is open two

days a week from 1pm-3pm. Families are only able to pick up

food once a month. DCFC is asking for online donations so it

can purchase essentials and limit how many people handle

food items. Thank you so much for supporting this program

since the number of people who are needing this service is on-

ly growing due to the economic fallout during the COVID-19

pandemic.

Welcome and Announcements

Prelude

Call to Worship (Adapted from Psalm 17) Hear me, Lord, my plea is just; listen to my cry.

Hear my prayer—it does not rise from deceitful lips.

I call upon you, for you will answer me, O God; incline your ear to me, hear my words.

Wondrously show your steadfast love, O savior of those who seek refuge from their adversaries at your

right hand.

Opening Prayer Lisa Patterson

Hymn 610 O for a Thousand Tongues to Sing AZMON

Prayer of Confession+ Holy and merciful God, in your presence we confess: the trials we have tried to avoid; the hurts we have tried

to mend on our own; and the people we have rejected. We have not taken responsibility for our actions;

we have only acted for ourselves instead of the good of all; and we have poured out too much for others while

not taking care of ourselves. In your mercy, grant us wisdom, give us endurance, strip our false self, and help

us grow in our faithfulness and claim the crown of life that you promised to those who love you. In Christ’s

name, we pray. Amen. (Time of silent confession)

Declaration of Pardon Friends, believe the good news of the Gospel.

In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. Thanks be to God!

Call to Faithfulness (Ephesians 4:1-6)

Lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience,

bearing with one another in love, making every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling, one Lord, one faith, one

baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all and through all and in all.

Sung Response Refrain of hymn 605, Praise to God the Father

Praise to God the Father; praise to God the Son; praise to God the Spirit: praise to the Three-in-One. Sing

praise, sing praise to the Lord on high. Praise to God Almighty; praise to the Holy One.
