DEVOTION

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Last Sunday the Omaha World Herald ran a wonderful article on

the song, “On Eagle’s Wings”. This beautiful song was written by

Fr. Michael Joncas for the funeral mass of Harold Hall, a

parishioner of St. Robert’s. To commemorate this great event a

permanent plaque with a copy of the original text has been

commissioned and will be placed in the narthex at a ceremony in

late May. My thanks to Mr. Mike Kelly of the Omaha World Herald

for a great article and a special thanks to a parish family who has

donated the funds for the commemorative plaque.

On a personal note: thanks to everyone for your prayers as I deal with a nagging

leg issue. I would like to ask for more prayers as I will have one more surgery on

my foot on April 11th. My doctor for this surgery, a good parishioner, assured me

that he would be gentle but I would still have to lay low for a full two weeks. Our

pastor emeritus, Fr. Shane, will be helping me out by celebrating my Palm Sunday

and Easter masses. Fr. Shane will also concelebrate with Fr. Andy and Fr. Michael

the Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday liturgies. Have a great week! Father Stillmunks

YOUTH MINISTRY

Words from Pope Francis: “Lent is a

time to change direction, to respond to

the reality of evil and poverty.”

Our Lenten Journey

Lent is more than half over but there is

still time to draw closer to God in a

special way. Attend a daily Mass,

come to a Stations of the Cross

service, take a walk and have a visit

with the Lord. He is anxious to get to

know you better!

The angel Gabriel asked Mary if she

would consent to being the mother of

the Lord. Mary responded, “May it be

done to me according to your

word.” Let us ask Mary to help us say

the same words in our own life. What

is God asking of us? Is it something

new, a change, a new direction…? Is

He simply asking you to slow down and

spend more time with Him?

Father-Son Event: Creighton vs. Butler Baseball Game

Rediscover Catholicism

As a parish community, we have

completed a four week discussion of

our Lenten reading, “Rediscover

Catholicism.” But this is only the

beginning of the journey. Matthew Kelly

tells us, “Catholicism is a gift that can

never be fully appreciated, described,

or understood. But in order to even

begin to appreciate Catholicism in all its

beauty, we must experience it.” All the

riches of Catholicism lead us to Christ,

to the Eucharist, and to an

ever-deepening relationship with God.

One final suggestion. When you are

finished reading “Rediscover

Catholicism,” multiply its effect by

passing it on to someone else!

“One thing I do know is that I was

blind but now I see.” (Jn 9:25)

April 9 – students will be going to confession. There will still be regular

classes that evening. Please adhere to the regular class times and schedule.

No confessions during Holy Week!

Lent is a special time to experience God’s mercy and healing forgiveness through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. There are no more consoling words than when the priest says, “I absolve you from your sins...” Come and reconnect with our God who is all compassionate and forgiving. Instructions on “How to make a good confession” can be found in the narthex pamphlet rack. Also available there are separate “examinations of conscience” for married persons, single persons, teenagers & young adults, and children.

In keeping with the Easter theme of renewal and rebirth, the prayer garden is coming alive, right on schedule. Tulips and

hyacinths are popping up all along the garden paths. The Star Magnolia is budding, and the ground covers are starting to

turn green. The golden winter colors of the grasses and shrubs are still adding texture and visual excitement to the garden.

The shorter grass on the backside of the berm by the bench is an incredible color of golden white; come see it before we cut

it down to let the new growth emerge.

This year, the garden theme will be MOON GLOW, featuring an all white center annual bed. "In a garden, the extremes of

value and purity associated with white give it more power than the richest red, the brightest yellow, or even the most

arresting blue. White absorbs no other color and is, therefore, uncompromisingly pure. White is a prima donna, and

demands center stage.” What better color to welcome spring and Easter than white. White flowers actually glow at dusk and

into the evening, so our garden this year will be a sensual delight of sight and fragrances well into the evening. The garden

will be planted May 8-9-10.

secret of a successful marriage. Fr. Clifford Stevens brings a unique

understanding of Catholic marriages from his many years of marriage

counseling.

CATHOLIC CHARITIES YOU DID IT FOR ME

When their house was foreclosed, the Miltons* moved in with a relative for a

temporary stay that turned permanent when work could not be found. Finally,

the strain grew too much to bear and the family was forced into a shelter.

Thankfully, the help they received there helped not only meet their housing

needs, but led to employment. The Miltons are now on the road to getting

back on track—“We don’t want to put our children through this again; we have

never felt so vulnerable and it has been really hard," they say. "But there is

hope."

Catholic Charities agencies provide much-needed services to nearly 10 million

in need each year. To learn more, please visit www.CatholicCharitiesUSA.org
