Pre-Alumni Meet
The Pre-Alumni meet was organized for active alumni on 22nd
September 2018 to discuss about
agenda of Alumni Meet 2018 scheduled on 20th
October 2018. Mr. Ganesh K (2007 output), Mr.
Kiran I M (2007 output), Asha T(2009 output), Anand Rahul B(2014 output) and Anusha T
S(2016 output) actively participated along with alumni coordinators Mrs. Venkata Sumana C H
and Ms. Vinutha L B as representatives of ECE department.

Proceedings of Alumni Meet 2018
Morning session
At 11am, alumni started to gather in the GM Halamma Auditorium and are provided with
welcome drinks and were welcomed by respective department faculty to the auditorium.

Invocation by: Sharath.
Welcome Speech by: Mr. Santosh Kumar M, Assistant Professor, Department of CS&E.
Address by : Dr. Sunil Kumar B S, Dean Academic & Head, Department of IS&E.
The Dean academic, Dr. Sunil Kumar B S started his speech by welcoming and thanking all the
alumni who had gathered for the Alumni Meet-2018 and following are the highlights of his
speech.
Alumni are the important stake holders of the institution who are familiar with Vision and
Mission of the institute as it was communicated earlier.
Alumni meet is a platform for sharing the knowledge by connecting the alumni with the
institute and within themselves.
He informed the alumni about the overall development of the institution such as
infrastructure, Wi-Fi enabled campus, introduction of additional courses like Diploma,
PG courses, B.Sc., B.Com. and Pre-University courses at GMS academy, digital library
with online courses, ICT enabled classrooms have been established recently in GMIT.
He added that the number of faculty with Ph.D has rised to more than 30 which has
enhanced the quality of teaching even more and also mentioned that in rest of the faculty,
about 90% are pursuing Ph.D.
80% of the students have been successfully placed in various companies under the
guidance of Mr. Tejasvi Kattimani T R, Placement and Training Cell & team.
Student admissions for the year 2018-19 in GMIT is around 95% which is the best
compared to surrounding colleges.
He proudly informed the alumni that the institution is awarded with NAAC accreditation
with a grade of B++ during the academic year 2016-17.
Further he added that the institution is going for NBA shortly for the ECE, CSE, ISE,
Mechanical and Civil programs and also explained its importance and concluded that the
institution is aiming to incorporate excellent standards in the forthcoming years.
He quoted that the growth of the institution together with alumni is possible by means of
alumni acting as mentors to the current students. This can be done by a set of current
students of the institute and the recently passed students shall be mentored by the alumni
in the following areas such as Academic Guidance, Internship, Technology Training,
Placement assistance and Projects/ Mini projects and also suggested that alumni can share
their knowledge with the students by contributing to the dedicated columns in institute
newsletters or through activities such as conducting workshops on emerging
technologies, training on technology and soft skills, conducting mock interviews,
invitation for industry visit etc.,
Every event information is regularly posted on Social Networking Sites(SNS), calendar
of events will be communicated to alumni so that the alumni can actively participate in
the institutional events whenever they are free.
He appealed all the alumni to bring down resource persons from various fields of
industry.
He finally thanked all the alumni for making time for the visit.
The session continued with Self introduction/Life experience speech by distinguished Alumni
and followed by Brainstorming session by Tejasvi Kattimani
Informed the alumni about the statistics of placement of Southern India for the year 2017-
18 which is around 32%.
Informed that our institution has 49 MOUs with major industries and also in the month of
November, Center of Excellence for Red Hat will be established.
He welcomed all the opportunities for interactions with alumni.
Requested support from all the alumni to make our students industry ready and for this
purpose the Training and Placement Cell is ready to provide any assistance required.
Address by Dr. Bakkappa B, Director of MBA
He initially pointed out that before there was teacher-centric environment and now there
is student-centric environment in the field of education.
He appealed to the alumni to think on how to contribute back to society and institution,
because alumni are the one's who can give valuable inputs to students and help the
institution to provide the right education.
He appreciated alumni for their feedback.
He said that the alumni meet should be a celebration, a voluntary effort.
He expressed that the institution is proud of it's alumni and the institution remembers
their contribution.
He informed that it is compulsory for the institution to be in regular contact and monitor
their alumni.
HE also said that the growth of the institution is by inner growth of human resource not
only by buildings.
Speech by Sri G M Lingaraju, Secretary, Srishyla Educational Trust, Bheemasamudra
He suggested that alumni meet should be held regularly both at department and
institutional level.
Appealed to the alumni to share their experience with the students of our institution,
involve more with the institution, to guide the students for their future and give guest
lectures in their respective departments whenever they are free for the benefits of the
students.
He finally thanked all the alumni for their presence.
Message to alumni by Dr. P Prakash, Principal, GMIT
On behalf of our respected Principal, Mr. Imran Khan, Assistant Professor, Department
of IS&E read the Principal's message.
Welcomed back alumni to the institution.
Informed the alumni that Academic Dean and alumni coordinators will always be with
them for any type of assistance.
He finally thanked all the alumni for their presence.

Afternoon Session
Interaction with alumni by Dr. Sunil Kumar B S, Dean Academic & Head, Department of IS&E
Below are the ideas and suggestions given by the alumni for the betterment of the students and
institution:
Effective communication is needed through the emails, letters and SMS about the
institution events.
1. Sagar, ECE, 2008
Willing to help in any way with regards to management, HR.
Willing to give guest lectures, orientation program.
2. Shruthi, ECE, 2008
Willing to give sessions about HR, interviews and personality development.
3. Ganesh K, ECE, 2007
Conduct alumni meet on days other than festive days.
Alumni meet to be held in Bengaluru for at least two days, others also supported this
suggestion.
Panel discussion arrangement for alumni.
Collaboration of alumni for the placement of non placed students.
Alumni meet to be held at department and institutional level in the presence of the
students. Funding by alumni for the product development.
Suggested to develop cloud based application for communication between institution and
alumni.
Suggested to conduct idea presentation sessions.
4. Sandeep, ECE, 2008
Both academic and industrial mentoring are very crucial.
Display the overall achievements of the institution in the alumni meet video.
Conclusion by Dean Academic:
He thanked alumni for their wonderful interaction. He promised to consider the following words
of alumni to respective persons in the institute:
1. Conduction of two alumni meet in a year in which one will be in the branch and other at
the institute level.
2. Conducting institute level meet for the next year at Bengaluru will be decided with the
discussion of institute apex committee.
3. All the department heads will be asked to invite alumni for functions, call as resource
persons for workshops/ guest speakers/ training/ seminars etc. Also they may be asked to
identify and depute resource persons from their industry.
4. Calendar of events will be circulated to alumni well in advance to fix slots with them.
5. Birthday and wedding anniversary wishes shall be done by departments.
6. In the next meet, arrangements will be made to interact with alumni through 'Skype'.
7. A separate column will be reserved for alumni's articles in department newsletters or
magazines.
8. Circulation of newsletters and magazines to alumni will be done regularly.
Finally he thanked Mr. Santhosh Kumar M, other faculty coordinators and alumni for their
participation in the meeting.

All alumni of ECE gathered in the department and HOD Dr. Hadimani sir addressed them
regarding progress of department activities. Awareness about accreditation was given to alumni
by Senior faculty in the department. Alumni visited all classrooms and Laboratory and cherished
their memories. A group photo was taken and followed by grand lunch to all.
