For Exchange 2010 or higher, Minimal Hybrid method has best fidelity with least customer

overhead.

Use hybrid when long-term rich coexistence is needed

For Exchange 2010 or higher (and hybrid), we can migrate personal archive as it is part of the

mailbox. What remains out of scope is all other types of archive data

Assign Exchange online license prior to the mailbox migration

Start low as 20 concurrent connections and then increase this number while monitoring the data

and source performance to avoid end-user access issues

Highly restrictive RBAC based permission model

Proven and tested migration methods for Enterprise and SMBU customers.

Throughput is determined by many factors, including network bandwidth and source server

performance

For Domino migrations, FastTrack migrates up to 90 days of email, 90 days of historic

calendar and all of future

FastTrack provides bidirectional mail flow between the on-premises Domino

environment and Exchange Online to all customers

FastTrack assign’s Exchange online license prior to the mailbox migration

Lotus Notes mail files are pre-staged to Azure before migration to Exchange Online

mailboxes

Domino NAB to On-Prem AD / Azure AD objects synchronization is not covered

under FastTrack

mailbox server performance

FastTrack provides assistance in setting up bidirectional mail flow between the Gmail (G-suite) and

Exchange Online to all customers, but no free/busy coexistence

At the Google Tenant level, IMAP must be enabled. At the user level Google labels must be

configured as “Show in IMAP”

Assign Exchange online license prior to the mailbox migration

Migration Sequence

Contacts, Distribution Lists, Calendars and Mail – Sent Items Migrated first and no specific order for

the remaining folders.

Google throttles at 2.5 GB per mailbox/day on IMAP

Items are migrated by folder structure. Once inside the folder, it will migrate oldest to newest

By default, messages with multiple labels are copied into multiple target folders. Tool can also

convert labels to categories on the target.

Data Migrations

Page 18: SPUnite17 Migrating to SharePoint Online Fast Track

Issue Tip

VPN access ▪ VPN access to the environment as well as accounts to access the

data – This requirement has caused the most significant delays.

Virtual Machines ▪ The more infrastructure that can be provided, typically the better

the throughput. Place VMs close to source file share platforms

Set expectations ▪ Review the service description what will and will not migrate

▪ Migration speed will vary and is dependent on each

environment

Rationalize what to

move

▪ Get started rationalizing content in the data shares as early as

possible

▪ Consider on-prem systems which integrate with file shares

Governance &

security

▪ Discuss Governance and Security with your Security teams early

to avoid last minute delays

Permissions External sharing permissions are not migrated*

Guidance Provide quick reference guides for end users

Scheduling Schedule users that collaborate often to migrate at the same time*

Schedule large drives to migrate early in the schedule

G-Drive only Information Architecture G-drive migrates to OneDrive for Business, not SharePoint Online

Throughput Throughput is 1 GB per hour per machine

Box only Information Architecture Departmental folders migrate to team sites and user folders migrate to OneDrive

for Business
