COURSE DESCRIPTIONIn an age of medicine where many things old are new again, dietary therapies for the treatment of various diseases remain a topic of interest and conflicting views. As some health professionals have declared that we are killing ourselves with food, others have promoted specific diets aimed at ameliorating various conditions. Among these is the high-fat, relatively low-carbohydrate ketogenic diet used successfully in patients with medically intractable epilepsy, some would say since biblical times. While incompletely understood, applications for the diet are increasing as is research interest.

The Spring Summit on Ketogenic Diet Therapies for Neurologic Disorders features nationally prominent speakers, presenting topics and case studies on the use of ketogenic diet therapies for epilepsy and other neurological disorders. While the benefits of the ketogenic diet are tremendous, there are risks, challenges and no one‐size fits all solution. The ketogenic diet is custom designed to fit each patient and requires ongoing adjustments.

Day one of the conference sets the table with the history, science, and variations of ketogenic diet therapies along with where research is breaking ground in its usefulness. Day two builds on this, by allowing meaningful discussions with thought‐provoking panels and an interactive case based workshop.

LEARNING OBJECTIVESUpon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:• Identify the neurological conditions for which ketogenic diet therapies may be beneficial.• Summarize the multi-disciplinary approach required for managing ketogenic diet therapies.• Discuss variations of the ketogenic diet and the importance of nutrition and meal planning for the child on ketogenic diet therapy.• Understand the growing knowledge of bioenergetics and metabolism with its implications for clinical practice.

INTENDED AUDIENCEThis course is intended for physicians, advanced practice providers, dietitians, nurses, scientists, social workers, therapists, allied health professionals, research associates, postdoctoral fellows and students of these professions.
