ultraviolet light bulb. It keeps water cleaner than

chlorine systems and better than saline pools. No

Aquatic Certifications

Lifeguard Certification This 29+ hour course includes CPR for the professional rescuer, first aid and

lifeguard training. $155 for Y Members, $205 for others. Books included.

Prerequisite: 15 years old, 300 yard swim using freestyle and breaststroke.

Next class TBA, usually held each year in February and May.

WSI (Water Safety Instructor) Certification This 30 hour course trains candidates to teach water safety, the basic rescue

course, learn to swim levels and parent/child aquatics. $180 for Y Members,

$230 for others. Books and “FIT: Fundamentals of Instructor Training” included.

Prerequisites: 16 years old, passing the “FIT” certificate and able to swim the

basic strokes. Next class TBA, usually held each year in April.

Cancellation: To cancel your membership,

you must provide a minimum of 14 days

written notice prior to your billing cycle.

Credits and Refunds: A full refund or

credit will be given if we cancel a program

prior to it starting. A prorated refund or

prorated credit will be given if we

discontinue a program after it starts. A

prorated refund or prorated credit for

membership dues will be given with a 14 day

written notice. If you cancel from a program,

then only a prorated credit will be issued

minus all administrative fees. If dismissed

from the Y, then no refunds will be given.

Changing Rooms: The adult only locker

rooms at the front of the facility are for

adults 18 years and older. Children under 18

years of age should use the family changing

rooms or the pool locker rooms. All children

5 and older must use the same sex locker

rooms or the family changing rooms.

Lockers: Lockers are available for day use

only. Please bring your own lock and remove

it at the end of each visit. Items left

overnight will be removed from the locker

room and placed in lost and found. We

recommend that you not bring valuables

into the facility. The Y is not responsible

for lost or stolen items.

Photo Policy: YMCA programs and events

are often photographed for promotional

purposes. If you do not wish to be included,

please inform the photographer.

Cell Phone Policy: Mobile device use of any

kind is not allowed in any of the bathrooms,

locker rooms, saunas or changing areas.

Phone conversations longer than a minute

should be held in the lobby, handicapped

entrance foyer, or outside areas.

Financial Assistance Available The YMCA is a membership organization open

to all people. If you cannot afford the full cost

of a YMCA program or membership, just ask

for a financial assistance application. Help is

based on demonstrated need and the YMCA’s

ability to fund requests.

Family Environment: The YMCA strives to

create a youth and family centered

environment based on our four core values of

caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

Code of Conduct: Members must abide by

posted rules and follow instructions from

staff while using the facilities or participating

in a program.

Waiver: The YMCA assumes no responsibility

for injuries or illness that may sustain as a

result of a physical condition or resulting

from participation.

Insurance: Its the members and participants

responsibility to provide his or her own

accident and health insurance. The YMCA

does not provide coverage for members and

program participants.

Guests Privileges: Each membership unit

(ages 18+) receive 6 guest passes annually.

Members must accompany guests at all times.

Membership Hold: Members may put their

account on hold once a year for up to

4 months. Must be submitted in writing.

Weapons Policy: Most weapons are

prohibited at the YMCA. Only law

enforcement and class instruction are

allowed. Members may have a small pepper

spray and/or a small pocket knife (blade not

longer than 3”). No toy guns that look like

real guns allowed.

SWIM LESSONS 7

The YMCA provides swimming lessons for all ages that follow both

YMCA standards and American Red Cross standards designed to make

adjustments to the water easy and fun. Students are divided into classes

based on age and ability. We do not give refunds or makeup days for missed

classes. Lessons are 30 minutes in length twice a week for 7 weeks during

school and 4 weeks during summer. Ask Programs Desk for additional times.

PARENT-TOT Designed for children 6 months to 3 years of age, the program builds

swimming readiness by emphasizing fun in the water. Parents and children

participate in several guided practice sessions that help children learn

elementary skills including water entry, bubble blowing, front kicking, back

floating, underwater exploration and more. Once children can perform basic

skills without parental assistance, they may begin Preschool Intro (must be 3

yrs old). There are 4 levels of Parent-Tot. Adult must be in the water.

comfortably oriented to the water and taught basic pool safety. Skills taught

include submerging face, blowing bubbles, bobbing underwater, assisted front and

back floating, kicking on front and back, and assisted front and back gliding.

PRESCHOOL-SWIMMER For swimmers who are able to perform all of the skills at Preschool Intro

level. Swimmers will gain more independent skills and learn introduction to

side breathing, front and back glides with flutter kick and breaststroke kick,

front and back floats (30 seconds), jumping in and going to float positions,

breast stroke (10 feet), elementary back (10 feet), front crawl (25 yards),

back stroke (25 yards) and tread water.

SCHOOL AGE-INTRO For youth who will become comfortable in the water and be taught basic

pool safety. Skills taught include bubbles, submerging face, underwater

exploration, introduction to side breathing, front and back floats, rolls to

float position, front and back glides with flutter kick and breast stroke kick,

jump in swim back to side, introduction to treading water, front crawl (25

yards) with face in pool and good technique and back stroke (25 yards).

6+ T/TH 9:00am, 4:00pm thru 7:00pm

SCHOOL AGE-SWIMMER For swimmers who are able to perform all of the skills at School Age Intro

level. Swimmers will refine stroke technique and endurance skills taught

include tread water (1 minute), refine breast stroke and elementary back

stroke (15 yards), and introduction to butterfly kick.

SWIM CLUB Swimmers are advanced to this level by their swim instructor.

Swimmer must be able to swim front crawl (50 yards) with

side breathing and proper arms, back stroke (50 yards) with

proper arms, breast stroke (25 yards) and butterfly kick

(25 yards). Skills learned will include speed endurance,

butterfly stroke, refining front crawl, backstroke and

breaststroke, open turns and flip turns.

TEEN & ADULT LESSONS Learn to swim so you can enjoy our

area’s rivers and lakes. These classes

are tailored to the skill level of the

individual and do not have young

children included.

HEALTH INFORMATION: Please keep your child at

home if your child has: open wounds, green mucus or yellow

discharge from the nose, had a fever or has vomited or had

diarrhea in the last 24 hours, headache, earache, sore

throat, rash, listlessness, loss of appetite or has received

shots or vaccines that day.

WHAT TO WEAR: Toddlers must wear swim diapers or

training pants with rubber pants. Girls should wear a

swimsuit that fits snugly. Boys should wear a swimsuit or

swim trunks with a lining. Shoulder length hair should be put

into a pony tail in a swim cap. Goggles are recommended.

Arm floaties are not permitted in the pool because they are

not considered a lifesaving device.

SWIM TEAM The Rogue Valley Family YMCA does

not have a YMCA swim team program.

We do support competitive high school

swimming so during winter we share

the pool with student athletes.

In addition, the YMCA partners with the

Sharks, a coach-owned swim team, that

offers a year-round program at

the YMCA facility. To learn

HEALTH AND FITNESS

Water exercise emphasizes strength, flexibility and aerobic

exercise. Classes are designed to increase resistance while

reducing bone, joint and muscle stress. No swimming skills

are necessary although flotation devices are available for

the following classes:

DEEP WATER FITNESS, SASSY SENIORS,

SHALLOW WATER FITNESS, THERAPEUTIC MOBILITY,

WATER STEP AEROBICS, WATER WELLNESS

Lap Swimming – One of the best non-impact work-outs. Our

lap swim requires people to share a lane by circle swimming

counter clockwise. Private lanes are not available.

Personal Training One-on-one training as well as sessions for 2 or 3 people are available. Let

our certified personal trainers give you the attention you deserve. Personal

training is a great option for members of all fitness levels and abilities. Our

personal trainers specialize in many different areas of fitness so make your

appointment today! See our Personal Training brochure for more information

and prices. $40 per hour. Multi-session packages available.

Nutrition Counseling

We will discuss your nutrition needs and dietary habits and make a plan

customized for you. This may consist of an individual meal plan, specific

calorie counts for weight loss, helpful tips and suggestions, making grocery

lists, etc. $20 for a 30 minute session.

Wellness Orientation

Included with membership, this 45 minute session is a great way to get

familiar with the equipment, programs and classes offered at the YMCA. You

will meet one of our Wellness Coaches and have your fitness questions

answered. We are here to help you with your journey toward a healthier

lifestyle. Schedule your Wellness Orientation at the Welcome Center.

Fitness Center Guidelines

Please observe all posted rules. Ages 10-12 may work out in tandem with a

parent after a Youth Orientation. Ages 13-14 may work out downstairs after

a Youth Orientation. Ages 15-17 may work out downstairs, orientation

optional. Ages 18+ may use all equipment and facilities.

Youth Orientation

A Youth Orientation is required for youth ages 10-14 before using the

Fitness Center. We will review the Fitness Center Guidelines and Code of

Conduct as well as show you how to properly use the equipment.

All group exercise and water fitness

classes are included with membership! Instructors offer modifications to movements to assist

those at different levels or with injuries. Pick up the

current monthly schedule of classes in our lobby or visit

rvymca.org. Choose from the following classes held in

our aerobics studio, gym or mind-body room:

BOOT CAMP, CARDIO X-TREME, CORE AND MORE,

EASY DOES IT AEROBICS, EASY DOES IT TONING,

GROOVE-N-STEP, GROUP CYCLING, GUT BUSTERS,

MOVING FOR BETTER BALANCE, PILATES, RESTORATIVE

YOGA, STEP, TAI CHI, TRX SUSPENSION TRAINING,

TURBO KICK, YOGA, ZUMBA, ZUMBA GOLD

BEGINNING TAI CHI (held at the YMCA and off-site)

This gentle form of Tai Chi is perfect for beginners or

people with physical limitations. The class meets both at

the YMCA and off-site at the Medford Congregational

Church at 1801 E. Jackson Street. See flyer for dates

and times.

Boot Camp Boot camp is an intense training program that includes

drills, core conditioning, muscle endurance and

strengthening exercises. Boot camp is included with

membership!

Nutrition Workshops Join us for informational workshops where we will

discuss nutrition, food choices, and food management

skills. Learn how to improve your health by making simple

changes to your diet. Check the welcome center for

dates and times.

Women With Weights Women are having a great time getting familiar with

fitness equipment, learning exercises and proper form

plus meeting new friends. Join in every Wednesday

morning at 10:45am after ZUMBA. Held in the fitness

center.

Jog Your Memory Class Join us for this socially interactive, mental fitness

program designed for healthy older adults. The primary

goals of this class are to exercise and stimulate parts

of the brain while learning about aging and memory.

Challenging puzzles, interactive games and scientific

information. New exercises are offered each week.

Mondays from 9:00am to 10:00am. Free to the

community.

Prenatal Fitness These classes are good choices for fitness while pregnant: Shallow Water

Fitness, Water Step Aerobics, Water Wellness , Easy Does It Aerobics,

Easy Does It Toning, Restorative Yoga, Tai Chi, Yoga and Zumba Gold.

YOUTH & FAMILY PROGRAMS

Youth 12 & under must be in a supervised

activity or with an adult (18+).

Included with a family membership! Child Watch allows

you to leave your child in a safe, nurturing environment

while you workout. You must stay in the building.

Enroll in our child care by the hour if you must leave the

building. Children must be clean and fed before being

dropped off. Do not send snacks. We cannot accept

children who are visibly ill. Maximum 2 hours each day.

Potluck Lunch Every last Friday of the month from 12:30pm to

1:30pm. Come enjoy lunch with fellow members and

community friends. Bring a side dish or drink to

share and we’ll provide the rest.

The youth center is a place where all youth are welcome.

Programs will take place in the youth center, the playground

or the gym. The main focus is to provide a caring, honest and

respectful place for youth and teen Y members. Amenities of the center

include: billiards, Wii, X-Box, foosball, snooker, computers and more.

Staff lead games and activities to keep everyone active and busy.

VOLUNTEER!

The YMCA is a volunteer organization. The Y

was founded by volunteers, is led by volunteers,

and our Y has many more volunteers than paid

staff. We conduct background checks on both

volunteers and paid staff. There are policy

volunteers, fundraising volunteers, program

volunteers and support volunteers. Just fill-out

a volunteer interest form available on the website

at rvymca.org or in the lobby of the Y.

Family Night Held every third Friday of the month from 6:00pm to

8:00pm, on the same evening as the “3rd Fridays in

Downtown Medford” event! Invite your friends and

family to an evening of free, fun, family time. A

variety of activities, games and crafts held in the

lobby, gym, swimming pool, youth center and

climbing gym.

Homeschool PE This program is designed to build physical

fitness and enhance skill development with age

appropriate games. It is convenient for

Homeschool and Charter school children but

open to all youth members. Included with

membership.

Taught by Preschool staff, our Extended Child Care by the

hour is designed to wrap around Preschool or to stand

alone. Our child care program is convenient for families

needing as little as one hour per month as well as those who

need full time care. Registration fee ($60) is waived for

members. All children must be potty trained. Max ratio: 1:10

At the YMCA we view youth as assets to our community. Under the guidance of nurturing

adults, youth in the Afterschool and Day Camp programs learn our core values of caring,

honesty, respect and responsibility.

Staff ensure that children are given a unique mix of age appropriate activities that focus on

Developmental Assets™ and engage children in a variety of fun learning centers. Program

components include recreation, health enhancement, arts, science, snacks, character

development, and homework assistance. Working together with schools and families, staff

Our Preschool includes Swim Lessons, Physical Education and Movement & Music.

The Child Development Center provides experiences rich in academic and recreational

learning. Following the guidelines of the Creative Curriculum™, our nurturing, energetic

professionals encourage the developmentally age appropriate growth of language,

literacy, social, emotional and life skills. Classrooms offer exploration with science and

math. Individual expression in arts and dramatic

play are fostered to create an atmosphere that

helps develop each child’s own unique style. Fine

and gross motor skill experiences are integrated

into all centers.

Each teacher reflects the importance of the

YOUTH SPORTS & ADULT RECREATION

Youth sports give children an opportunity to fill

their free time with positive activities and caring

role models. Coaches emphasize teamwork and

cooperation over winning and help youth develop

teamwork and sportsmanship both on the field and

in their daily lives. Get a flyer for details!

Rock Climbing Ideal for both beginners and

experienced climbers. Staff will be

on hand to belay climbers and

supervise the climbing gym.

Open Climb: T/TH 4pm to 7pm,

plus the 3rd Friday of each month

advance, on the hour or half hour.

Only two reservations may be held by

any one team or player at a time.

Level 1 belayers may belay others
