Sport and games

Kindergarten activities represent not only a part of the compulsory curriculum ,

but due to teachers’ abilities and skills, they become multi-disciplinary having the ul-

timate aim of arriving in time to the formation of harmonious individuals. Such indi-

viduals are wanted to be endowed with all the physical, spiritual and moral qualities of

a good citizen.

Physical education in kindergarten takes various forms from which there are

some common activities: refreshing gymnastics, walking and games.

Game is the means through which group relations are being consolidated at

their highest level because it facilitates the development of initiative, independence,

responsibility. Respecting the team’s discipline and the competition rules, assuming

chores inside the group, integrating in groups which have a competitive spirit- those

are some of the game’s objectives.

Movement games allow complex manifestations

and permit the simultaneous development of moving skills,

qualities and abilities. Thus basic skills are being consoli-

dated: walking, running, jumping, throwing and catching,

climbing, balance. The development of some physical

qualities is also activated: speed in its many forms of mani-

festation, resistance, force and the improvement of balance.

Motion game allows manifestation of initiative and independence in actions.

Walks and trips help strengthen child’s health and

also help building movement skills. Children familiarize,

in the same time, with the environment and have the op-

portunity to know aspects from the adults’ activities and

achievements. Walks contribute to the moral education of

children by teaching them not to avoid physical effort; to

overcome some difficulties by developing their will, cour-

age, team spirit.

Physical education has a recreational side by making

the transfer from the dominant intellectual activities to the

physical ones, by offering a pleasant alternative to work.

The fundamental means used mainly in all physical

education activities is physical exercise. Any exercise be-

comes a suitable means if it is properly done, based on cer-

tain methodological rules and regulations as to achieve a

specific objective.

Balance exercises are performed on reduced support

from a stationary position or moving. They form the habit

of keeping a correct body position, provide stability and

contribute to the formation of character’s positive qualities.

“Dragging” is used to straighten the spine, to

strengthen the muscles of the arms, legs and trunk.

“Dragging” exercises develop self-control and swiftness in

moving.

Climbing exercises develop the muscles’ force, prevent spinal deformities, de-

velop the coordination of the movement between arms and legs, educate and strengthen

the courage and self-confidence, stimulate the will to overcome difficulties.

Throwing and catching

help to the formation of certain

moral and physical qualities, such

as: ability, speed, precision,

force, will, perseverance.

Physical exercises and games have the purpose of forming and maintaining

some traits. Regular practice educates pupils’ tenacity, sense of order, desire to self-

improve and affirm.

Team competitions have the role to teach

values as respect for the partner, friendship,

cooperation. Thus children develop certain

competences required for a good integration

in school life: listening, focus, observing

and making differences, following verbal

directions.

Through sport some lose trophies, some gain glory; but everybody

gets health, resistance, optimism and beauty!
