COMPUTER SKILLS FOR THE WORKPLACE (ONLINE)
Even Most jobs today require a working knowledge of certain
computer skills. Employers seek and reward employees with the
skills and knowledge to send messages across the country via

MEDICAL BILLING & CODING (ONLINE) Spoon River
College Community Outreach offers online programs in Medical
Billing & Coding. Programs include certification with the
cost of program. Students can start at anytime as these programs
have open enrollment. Financial aid assistance is not available.

VETERINARY ASSISTANT (ONLINE) This online program
will prepare you to become a productive member of a veterinary
team. You'll learn about every aspect of veterinary assisting,
including anatomy and physiology, animal restraint, laboratory
sample collection, assisting in surgery and dentistry, prescription
preparation, and taking radiographs. You’ll also learn how to
interact professionally with clients and gain the expertise you
need to educate them about key topics in pet care, such as
nutrition, vaccinations, and administering medication. This
program is designed for people who want to work at a veterinary
hospital and those who are already employed in positions in
which they look after animals. Fee: $1995

PRE-EMPLOYMENT ELIGIBILITY SERVICES-COOK
The Spoon River College Office of Community Outreach
provides pre-employment eligibility services for the Cook
facilities in Canton at no cost to participants. The
pre-employment process includes:
1. Enrollment in the KeyTrain in preparation for testing
2. Schedule for WorkKeys computer tests in: Applied Math,
Locating Information, Reading for Information
3. Manual dexterity tests
4. Creating a profile which gives you employment alerts at
www.cookmedical.com
The three WorkKeys computer tests also enable the applicant
to obtain the National Career Readiness Certificate, which is a
portable, evidence-based credential that measures workplace
skills and is a reliable predictor of workplace success.

graduation or GED completion to Cook.)
PHARMACY TECH ED This 12 week course consists of 48
hours of classroom instruction plus an optional 2 hour PTCB prep
class for a total of 50 hours of instruction. Classes meet one
evening a week for 4 hours. Upon successful completion of the
course, students receive a Certificate of Completion for Pharmacy
Technician instruction. The Pharm Tech Ed coursework will
provide students with the basic skills necessary for an entry level
career as a pharmacy technician in a hospital or retail pharmacy
setting. In addition, the coursework will prepare students to
sit for the PTCB certification exam. Coursework in this
program includes:
Origin and history of pharmacy
Drug regulation and controls
Routes and formulations
Transcribing of physician's orders
Correct medication packaging
Calculating doses
Labeling prescriptions
Preparing IVs
Drug distribution systems
and the top 200 drugs brand/generic
This course is taught by licensed Certified Pharmacy Technicians
who are professionally employed in regional pharmacies.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (Professional Development is for those in career fields that
required specialized training for their certification.)
(FSSMC) FOOD SERVICE SANITATION MANAGER
CERTIFICATION All establishments which serve food must
have one certified person on the premises at all times. In order to
maintain your Illinois FSSMC Certificate, or in order to obtain a
new FSSMC Certificate, you must complete an eight hour
ServSafe® IDPH approved course and pass an exam accredited
under the standards developed and adopted by the Conference for
Food Protection with a score of 75% or better. This course,
instructed by I Food Manager (IFM), covers up-to-date
information on safe food handling, preparation, food storage,
personal hygiene, and the prevention of food borne illnesses.
Successful completion includes a certificate issued by the Illinois
State Department of Public Health (IDPH). The IFM course
instructor will submit exam answer sheets to ServSafe® and will
submit the returned test scores to IDPH. IDPH will mail students
the Manager Request Form to fill out and return to IDPH with a
$35 payment. Students are not considered certified until the
Manager Request Form and payment has been submitted. IFM
will mail students a ServSafe® certificate. Courses are instructed

FOOD SERVICE SANITATION (ONLINE) Students now
have the option to become certified in Illinois through
ifoodmanager and ServSafe® online. Students must contact
ifoodmanager at 309-837-5158 to register and pay for services
before they can begin online training. Fee: $285 ($125 to
ServSafe®, $125 to ifoodmanager, $35 to IDPH)
REAL ESTATE CONTINUING EDUCATION (HOME
STUDY) Spoon River College is offering a Home Study
option for REALTORS® continuing education credits.
REALTORS® can sign up at any time, will receive course
material from SRC to study on their own, and then schedule an
exam to be taken at the Macomb Outreach Center. The
following courses are approved by the PAAR Center For
Professional Education: For Real Estate Agent: Fair
Housing, Agency, Escrow and License Law, Advertising and the
Real Estate Agent, Distressed Property Sales, Reducing Radon
Risk in Real Estate, and Property Management 101. Fee: $35

TEACHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT The Office
of Community Outreach at SRC can provide teachers with
Professional Development (PD). Popular technology classes such
as Word, Excel, Access, OneNote, and PowerPoint may be
eligible depending on your professional goals and objectives.
Many of these classes are provided at various levels depending
on if you are new to the program or want to further develop your
skills. Other community outreach classes may also qualify
depending on your teaching subject area. For example we
offer classes on photography, iPad, art, and history. We are
continuously adding classes to our schedule so please visit us

effective manager, this course will help you master the basics of
business by learning the language of management. Learn how to
make a successful transition from employee to manager and
learn how to manage your time so that you can deal with the
constant demands of a managerial job. You will learn the skills
required to delegate responsibility and motivate your employees.

how to influence and direct other people's performance. Finally,
you will learn how to solve problems and resolve conflicts so

A TO Z GRANT WRITING (ONLINE) In this class you'll
learn how to raise needed funds by discovering how and where
to look for potential funders who are a good match for your
organization. You'll also learn how to network and develop
true partnerships with a variety of funders, how to organize a
successful grant writing campaign, and how to put together a
complete proposal package. This course speaks mainly to
nonprofit organizations, schools, religious institutions, and
municipalities seeking grants from foundation, corporate,
government, and individual donors. It's also an excellent primer
for individuals wishing to become grant writing consultants or

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT (Personal Development classes are an opportunity for you to

OUTDOOR PHOTOGRAPHY Have you ever wondered what
the best camera setting is to capture outdoor photos? In this
3-hour class you will learn how! This course will be “live”
instruction. Participants will examine real life use of shutter
speed, how to select the right aperture, and of course, outdoor
lighting. This class is limited to the first 8 paid registrations.

who already owns or is looking to purchase their first

DNA testing and using it in your Genealogy research, but what
do you really learn? This class will give a general overview of
DNA testing and the different types with a brief description of

external flash photography, white balance, lens usage, and

DISCOVER SIGN LANGUAGE (ONLINE) You’ll begin with
an introduction to the language, and learn to create the signs for
numbers. You’ll master the sign alphabet so you can fingerspell
proper names. You’ll learn to sign phrases and expand to
complete sentences like how to introduce yourself and start a
conversation. You'll learn signs for colors, numbers, where you
live, family, and the activities you like to do and even the ones
you don't. You'll learn by watching videos that demonstrate how
to make the signs and how to incorporate facial expressions to

FREE SOLAR ECLIPSE PROGRAMS AT PARLIN-INGERSOLL
PUBLIC LIBRARY IN CANTON Parlin-Ingersoll Public Library
will be hosting two FREE programs about the upcoming
“All-American Solar Eclipse.” On Monday, August 7th at 7:00
p.m. the Library, in partnership with Spoon River College, will
present an informational program by Rob Kirkham, Director of
the Rushville Outreach Center. Mr. Kirkham has conducted
many star gazing and astronomy programs for Spoon River
College and will share his knowledge of solar events. The library
received a grant to supply those attending solar eclipse viewing
glasses. Mr. Kirkham and library staff will also review solar
eclipse safety tips for viewing the eclipse on August 21, 2017. If
visibility permits, Mr. Kirkham will bring his telescope to share
some night sky viewing.
In addition, the library will be offering a Solar Eclipse Fun Day
on August 21, 2017 from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. during the
actual eclipse. Attendees can bring their own lunch and share an
afternoon of fun solar events, hands-on activities, and eclipse
viewing. Registration is required for both events. All ages are
welcomed, but children should be accompanied by an adult to
receive solar eclipse viewing glasses. Canton will be in the area
of a partial eclipse so proper eye protection will be needed during
