KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Dec. 2, 2014 Spontivity, a new social app set to join the app store for iPhones Jan. 5, 2015, seeks to connect users based on activities they love.

The free app will allow customers to create, browse, and join activities in their area. These activities can be anything from hiking to basketball games to photography or bird watching sessions. As Tyler Brewer, Spontivity’s director of marketing explains, “Sometimes your friends aren’t where you are and doing the activities you enjoy can’t wait”.

The creators of the app and the company are all recent graduates of the University of Tennessee. The idea to create a social app that connects users in interactive, face-to-face settings came to them after realizing that with people’s busy lifestyles it is hard to organize activities among friends. “This is especially true for people who have just recently moved to a new city or state,” says director of finance Mary Beth Overton.

iPhone users can sign up to be alerted when Spontivity goes live in the app store by entering their email address online at the Spontivity website. The company also has a twitter account, Facebook page and blog customers can follow to learn more about the app and interact with its creators.

The event raised awareness about the social app by brining together a guest list of 150 influential University of Tennessee students and a plus one of their choosing. These students were nominated by peers to attend based on their campus involvement. Owners of Spontivity chose to select highly involved, influential students to be the first to learn about the app because, “We feel those are the people most likely to talk with their peers and raise awareness for our product,” stated marketing director Tyler Brewer.

The new app created by recent University of Tennessee graduates hosted its first ever-promotional event on Nov. 21, 2014 in Knoxville at a locally owned restaurant on Cumberland Ave.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.- Nov. 22, 2014Creators of Spontivity and their investors were at the event as well wondering from table to table and talking to their guests: answering questions as well as gaining feedback to figure out the best ways to make future events for the app successful.

The feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Megan O’Hare, a senior student at the University of Tennessee said, “The whole idea behind the app is very cool and different. I like the idea of coming together with people who love the same activities I do anytime that is convenient for me.” Other guests expressed satisfaction with the way the event was run, “I liked how laid-back it was and that I was able to bring a plus one with me,” said Seth Carver, junior at the university. Carver also enjoyed the interaction he received from the owners of the app.

The owners of Spontivity were pleased with the attention the event brought to their app and said they were looking forward to hosting more events such as this one both before and after the release of the on app Jan. 5, 2014.

The Spontivity banner guests were encouraged to take photos with before going into the event for a chance to win a iPhone 6. Posing in front of the banner are guests Kaley Williams and Seth Carver.
