A message from...

Joe W. Lastinger Alliance President

The Alliance was founded in 1996 by eight health plans as a for-profit venture designed to be a vehicle for collaborative innovation. Our mission hasn’t changed over our 20+ year history, but we have continued to grow and evolve. Today, we are owned by 26 health plans and support nearly 50 across the United States. Through the Alliance, provider-sponsored and independent health plans collaborate as one united entity, and each organization shares strategic expertise, operational efficiencies and innovation with their Alliance colleagues. Together, we are driving performance improvement, delivering exceptional service, transforming care, and championing health and wellbeing in our local markets with the power of a nationwide company. Thank you for your interest in supporting the Alliance. Your investments make a real difference in the success our member heath plans are able to achieve in the communities they serve all across the country.

Alliance members stay engaged, even in a virtual worldThe challenges of 2020 drove Alliance members to leverage our value portfolio more than ever.

Digital resources were accessed consistently, and member-led projects became an important way for members and our vendor sponsors to tackle tough problems together.

Without exception, every role within the c-suite tapped their executive network within the Alliance membership for support.

How Health Plans’ Engagement Changed This Year

9Sponsorship Guide - Updated January 4, 2021© 2020 Health Plan Alliance. All rights reserved.

How We Collaborate

The Alliance’s purpose is to create unique spaces that engender accelerated problem solving and shared innovation among independent and provider-sponsored health plans across the country. While COVID-19 has certainly impacted how we accomplish our mission, it hasn’t stopped Alliance member health plans from connecting. If anything, 2020 affirmed the Alliance as a trusted partner for regional health plans’ leadership teams, and our members called upon us to support both immediate decision-making efforts and long-term strategic planning. Alliance sponsors are a central part of our value portfolio, and this unique partnership model connects you to health plan leaders in unique ways.

Alliance members are connecting in a variety of virtual settings.

In 2021, we will host a wide variety of intimate networking sessions that encourage conversation among small groups, as well as half-day micro-summits for creative problem solving and ideation among interdisciplinary peer groups. The virtual programming schedule is highly responsive and topic-specific, and ad hoc webinars are incorporated into the schedule at need.

Program sponsors are invited to join us at the table.

The most successful programs in 2020 have been those with sustained collaboration and discussion over time. Beginning April 2021 the Alliance is inviting a select group of vendor partners to make a single sponsorship investment and then engage with members across all topical programming delivered in our virtual settings. Each sponsor company has two passes to use at every virtual session the Alliance hosts, from April – December 2021 (excludes specifically designated member-only virtual events).

We hope to see one another in-person soon

While we are hopeful in-person meetings could be reinstated as early as the second half of 2021, we won’t release dates or locations until we know more. Like you, we are eager to reconnect in-person and look forward to seeing you soon. Sponsors of our Apr - Dec 2021 virtual programming calendar will be given the first opportunity to sponsor in-person meetings.

How will sponsors interact with Alliance member participants?

The unique blend of collaborative elements allows program sponsors to engage with Alliance members in multiple learning formats over a sustained period of time, directly supporting your need to maintain and grow solid working relationships with health plan leaders. Whether you’re participating in an intimate workshop or providing thought leadership during a virtual micro-summit, you’ll find multiple opportunities to connect authentically with participants.

How rich will the Alliance virtual event calendar be?

We anticipate hosting between 50-80 virtual sessions from Apr - Dec 2021. The topic themes we’re prioritizing are noted on Page 10. In 2021, vendor partners that invest in at least the Bronze level of our Preferred Business Sponsor program have the unique opportunity to engage with interdisciplinary groups within the Alliance membership. It’s a tremendous market research and relationship-building opportunity.

How did you choose these programming priorities?

We have stayed closely connected with our Alliance member health plan leadership teams. Executive discussions, individual team meetings with member organizations, one-on-one discussions and peer group round tables have all informed the 2021 programming priorities.

What Our Members Value Most About The Alliance

“The biggest benefit of the Alliance is the fact that you’re in a room of your peers who are all experiencing things very similar to you. It really is a place to bounce ideas off of each other and to hear what other plans are doing that you might not have thought about. Today is a great example. I’ve been in this meeting for two hours and I already have a list of ideas 15 things long.”

Penny Ransom, Chief Administrative Officer Network Health

“Western Health Advantage derives enormous value from our partnership with the Health Plan Alliance. From their formal programs, like the group purchasing organization, to convening value visits and vendor interactions, to personal connections and conversations with other health plan and health industry leaders. The Alliance is an essential part of WHA’s strategic plan. As a provider-owned plan, we value the resources and relevant content the Alliance brings to our organization as we continue to serve our communities.”

Rick Heron, Chief Experience Officer Western Health Advantage

“Health Plan Alliance is a fantastic organization that connects health plan professionals across the country, providing them with opportunities to seek and share knowledge, understand best practices, and bounce thoughts and ideas across one another. Being new to the health plan industry, I have found the Alliance to be an excellent source for my personal learning about the industry, as well as an opportunity to get quickly connected with other health plan human resources professionals. Health Plan Alliance also has great tools, information, and electronic work groups that have allowed me to stay connected to topics of interest related to my role and organization.”
