Likewise it is to be borne in mind that those who a r e connected with the city government are custo­dians, not of their own, but of other people ' s money, and those who dis­burse other people's money are charg­ed with greater ca re t han if the ex­pendi ture wefe their own.

The patent on the coupling was issued, on Dec. 17 last and the com­pany has already made successful tests in a number of places, includ­ing Plica and Woonsocket, Mass., and in both places have been asked to place bids for the complete equipment of the department and hydrants with the apparatus. The pat terns for the apparatus are being completed a t the plant of the Rome Saddlery Hardware Manufacturing Company, corner of Washington and Harrison s t reets , where it is expected tha t the cast ing will be done.

MortrnT'of this city, which was probated in Sur­rogate Sexton 's Court, here, provides among other bequests that after the death of his widow, who is to have all the proper ty during life, the sum of $800 s h a l t b e given to t h e ' F i f s t Presbyter ian Sunday school of Rome, to be known a s the Harry B. Morton Sunday School Fund, in memory of the tes ta to r ' s deceased son.
