• Environmental sustainability often neglected when considering financial education
The Washington Store had been in deficit due to its location. Ted and Coco found it difficult to convince BC Housing that The Washington Store needed to be moved.
Furthermore, the volunteers lacked training.
• Challenged students to create business models out of waste
• Taught students how business practices and environmental impact can be intimately linked by delivering 48 interactive workshops in 4 months
• Students converted litres of glycerin into profitable soap products and presented their products in front of 5 judges

• 37 000 litres of food waste oil is disposed of each year from UBC
• Engineers for a Sustainable World (ESW) at UBC was not financially sustainable
• ESW lacked education with regards to sustainable energy and zero waste practices
• Obtained funding from AMS Sustainability to upgrade lab equipment for more sustainable biodiesel production
• Connected ESW Engineers with UBC Fleet services to create a zero waste system in campus
