Spectrecom OverviewWe are situated in the centre of London and employ over 45 members of full-time staff including 16 camera operators, editors and studio technicians, as well as an award-winning creative arm consisting of creative directors, designers, animators and writers.

The home of this technical and creative talent is our central London studio complex. It is comprised of three purpose-built studios, a ten-machine edit facility, and more kit on the shelves than most rental

Spectrecom is a production company that works directly with some of the world’s largest brands. We also collaborate closely with the UK’s top creative, advertising, PR and digital agencies to craft award-winning films based on great concepts, which are delivered on-time and on-budget.

Our diverse roster of directors and DOPs represent a powerful talent pool across different genres and disciplines within advertising, branded content, digital and television.

Our StoryOriginally starting with a staff of three and a single studio in Deptford, the company has grown in size, scope and ambition while consistently delivering stunningly crafted films made with care. Now, Spectrecom is making the move into factual, factual entertainment and documentary content for television.

Our ambition is fuelled by our success. We’ve honed our production processes to deliver exceptional production values on budget and under tight deadlines.

Our abilities are reflected in the numerous industry awards we have to our name and a client list that ranges from The Royal Opera House

to BMW, Children in Need to The Times. We’re a company roaring with ambition to bring our low-cost, high-gloss productions to broadcast partners.

Spearheading our move into broadcast production is Ged Cleugh, Head of Film. Prior to this, Ged was Head of Production at Scripps Networks International and the Travel Channel where he built upon a decade of experience as a producer.

Ged oversees a team of TV researchers and producers who previously worked for some of the UK’s top indies including Endemol, Maverick and Hat Trick Productions.

Production Expertise: Location ProductionCASE STUDY – TURNING POINT

Being on location often brings our production teams into challenging situations, requiring sensitivity in production and fine rapport-building in communicating with contributors. We’ve honed these skills over years of working with clients such as The Mental Health Foundation, Macmillan Trust, and the NHS.

As its name indicates, Turning Point helps people change

Spectrecom shoots on location in London, across the UK and internationally. Our experienced in-house producers and production managers ensure every shoot runs as smoothly as possible whether we’re filming lions in the African savanna or Prince William in Kensington Palace. In the past twelve months we’ve shot in L.A., New York, Italy, Germany, India, China, Madagascar, Kenya, Tanzania across the United Kingdom and even in international waters.Whatever you need to film, wherever it is – we can handle it.

direction in their lives, by giving them the support to do so. The charity helps people across a wide range of areas, including mental health, substance misuse, learning disability, primary care and employment.

We produced three case study videos for Turning Point, each one profiling a different individual who has been helped by the charity through institutional care and

supported accommodation. These intimate films were shot on location inside Turning Point residential facilities and surrounding neighbourhoods.

Impressed with the authenticity the films captured, Turning Point selected one these films to enter into the Recovery Street Film Festival where it was shortlisted for the main festival award.

Production Expertise: Studio ProductionCASE STUDY – “TOM AIKENS SERVES ...” FOR STELLA ARTOIS

To help publicise the Stella Artois brand in a subtle, engaging way, we were asked to film a series of recipe videos with Michelin-starred chef Tom Aikens, showing him creating a string of lip-smacking dishes, all incorporating Stella Artois as a key ingredient.

Our aim with these videos was always to make the food the

From day one, Spectrecom has always worked out of its own studios and as a result studio production has become one of our specialties. Over the years we have upgraded and moved to new facilities. Now based in Kennington with three studios, our largest studio boasts 3,500 square feet.In the past few months, in addition to our branded content productions, it has been home to shows for the BBC, ITV, and Channel 4 including Food and Drink, gameshow Beat the Brain and The Keith Lemon Sketch Show. When filming a project in one of our three in-house studios, we provide lighting and full crew services. We also offer a set design and construction service. With set designers and carpenters on staff we are perfectly placed to turn around a bespoke build and studio shoot at short notice.

star, with the Stella Artois Cidre playing more of a supporting role – albeit a very important one.

As such, every video in the series is packed with plenty of close-ups showing Tom preparing the different delicious dishes, all lit with a beautiful warmth to make everything look as appealing as possible.

The series has picked up substantial views on YouTube, totaling more than 450,000.

Production Expertise: Live StreamCASE STUDY – BRIGHT TONES LIVE STREAM FOR KENCO

In order to promote Kenco’s new coffee brand, we put on an 8-hour live-stream – incorporating a very talented musical improv group.A micro-site was constructed online and the general public could get in touch and ask the group

Spectrecom’s studios have the infrastructure needed to deliver live television broadcasts. However, our in-house staff holds particular expertise in delivering live stream content and events. We work with specialist technical partners to ensure that any live video streaming service we’re asked to produce is of the highest quality and reliability. Our main studio is large enough to comfortably fit a 100 person audience and has a fibre optic line allowing us to transmit and receive a gigabyte of data per second. With these resources at hand we are perfectly positioned to deliver a wide range of live stream content. Most recently, Studio 1 was used for a 48-hour, uninterrupted live web stream by the nation’s favourite confectionary brand, as fans at home pledged to give the 100,000 Skittles needed to ‘build the rainbow’.

to perform an improvised song for them by using the hashtag #BrightenMyDay.

Utilising our large Studio 1 space we were able to construct a living room to house the band for a day. Over 8 hours we filmed the band singing 157 improvised songs.

After each song was sung we created mini-edits that were sent to the fans to watch back and share across YouTube and other social media sites. The live-stream garnered a lot of attention online, especially on Twitter which played a big role in the campaign.

Production Expertise: Digital ContentCASE STUDIES – NOW TV & PLANTS VS ZOMBIES

NOW TVTo promote Sky’s new Now TV service, Spectrecom was asked to come up with a series of highly sharable creative concepts that would feature some of Sky’s leading characters: football pundit Chris Kamara and the reality stars of Geordie Shore.Embracing some camera and post-production trickery we delivered three highly sharable Vines that promote the “magic” of Now TV. After filming Chris Kamara on a green screen we created the illusion that mid-report a ball flew over Chris’ head and through a television screen to knock the remote out of a viewer’s hand.

Spectrecom is incredibly proud of its history as a producer of films that demand to be watched by their high production values and strong creative concepts. With so much technical and creative talent in-house, we can cover a range of production tasks including polished CGI and quick-turnaround viral videos for top-end clients. In every case we put the goal of the content and intended audience at the centre of our creative process to create incredibly engaging productions.

In the case of Georgie Shore, we custom built a “club set” in our studios and captured fan-favourite Marnie’s pursuit of someone or something to ‘tash on’. With the click of her fingers she magically swapped from fellow cast member Gaz to Scotty T. to a kebab - creating a viral video with immediate comedy bite.

PLANTS VS ZOMBIESHaving conquered app-land, Plants vs. Zombies was taking on a new (after)life: it was being launched as an arcade cabinet by Sega. To publicise the launch of that cabinet to fans and arcade-owners, a gripping new 90-second online film was needed.

From the start of the project, we wanted to create a beautifully atmospheric film infused with the same feeling of anticipation that gamers were feeling about this new addition to the Plants vs. Zombies series. But at the same time, we were determined to keep the Last Stand game itself at the heart of the film.To accomplish this, we used the concept of the playful 3D animated plant vine to tie the two parts of the film together – linking the intriguing, wonder-filled opening with the main game section, and thereby ensuring a strong, consistent narrative thread throughout.
