    HISTORYThe word Spectacles was given a shape only in the 14 th century

    The first evidence for the survival of the spectacles was seen in aportrait of Cardinal Ugone , done in the late 14 th century.RIVET SPECTACLES: period 1400-1500

    mainly used materials was bones for the frame and convex lens,concave came in to existence in 15 th century15th century the materials used changed in to leatherBOW SPECTACLES with a slit bridge was very common in thisperiod

    In the early 17th century, rigid bridges were designed, eithercurved or straight, which made wearing these glasses morestable; but ear pieces were still absent, folding glasses alsocame in to existence at this period

    Q UISSING GLASSES: small single lenses with decorativestems, and hand-held scissors glasses.a London optician designed the first temple spectacles, whileBen Franklin invented bifocals.Spectacles with hinges became very popular during thisperiod.These were reproduced later in 18th century as spectacleswith round lenses.They are double hinged.The Sun glasses came into existence in the 18 th century onlyEyeglass designer James Ayscough introduced his spectacleswith double-hinged side pieces. The lenses were made of tinted glass as well as clear and were known as The SunGlasses.Ayscough glasses were the first sunglass like eyeglasses, butthey were not made to shield the eyes from the sun,ratherthey corrected vision problems.

    it featured an extension in templesThe extension which was held together by a rivet, wouldrotate 360 degrees and would fit the owner s headcompletely.

    RIDINGTEMPLE SPECTACLE:19th centuryPeople made temple spectacles that curved around theear and held eyeglasses in place while riding a horse orrunning.

    When the automobile replaced the horse as the primarymeans of transportation, the riding temple spectaclefaded from use.
