SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE

Astra Service Department possess a national infrastructure geared to the provision of same-day and next-day attendance for CCTV and access control on reactive and planned maintenance visits. From our Bristol Office, we currently service in excess of ten Blue Chip Case Clients, with multiple outlets and have screened engineers based throughout the UK.

Clients have a number of options when selecting their preferred Service Contract, which is, Reactive, Maintenance, or Comprehensive.

Reactive – Client charged at an agreed template fee for reactive calls and standard mark up on product. Planned maintenance optional.

Maintenance – Client charged an annual fee to include all reactive calls covered by contract, third party repairs and product replacements excluded. One planned maintenance visit during the contract year.

Comprehensive – Client charged an annual fee for the all inclusive contract, with exclusions such as flood damage.

Priority Response - Client charged a reduced annual fee for the all inclusive contract, with exclusions (as above). However, calls would be prioritised by importance and engineers response times would be evaluated accordingly. i.e. full system failure –next day response. Non emergency calls with 2-3 working days response.

Planned maintenance visits, will include a full check of the system, control playback, camera cleaning, head-end control cleaning and the listing of a full inventory. Inventories will be held for 12 months, and can be electronically forwarded upon request. Monthly and Quarterly Review Meetings with Clients maintain dialogue that guarantees excellent service.

VEhICLE NUMbER PLATE RECOGNITION (VNPR)

(VNPR) is one of the most effective vehicle movement and access management tools currently available. Partnered with the market leading Vista VNPR system, Astra designs and supplies solutions that accurately obtain number plate information from approaching vehicles and use this to effectively manage traffic movement throughout your site. The system raises barriers, switches traffic lights, displays pertinent driver information on a public display sign and accurately manages multi-tenant car parks. Integrating an access control number pad or proximity reader, will increase security to the site by ensuring the correct person is with the vehicle upon entry.

The VNPR solution can also provide essential management information such as logging who’s in/out, time spent on site, sound local and remote alarms on known number plates and send specific messages via e-mail, SMS or pagers.

Designed to be low maintenance and effective in all environments, the system utilises cameras that work in the infrared spectrum. They accurately read and process number plates, day or night, eliminating the effect of changing lighting conditions and vehicle headlamps. A snapshot of the VNPR camera and a colour overview camera is saved alongside each record of number plates read by the system, enabling the operator to have immediate recognition of each and every vehicle logged.

Over a hundred times smaller than the average CCTV DVR, the

system uses a standard SD card to record high quality 4CIF (D1)

video and audio. The user can then play back the footage via the

DVR or on any PC running Windows. A combination of highly

efficient H.264compression and miniature components reduces

power consumption and space requirements. Low 12V DC power

consumption means that the unit can even be powered by

This compact single channel covert camera system uses the latest miniature digital recorder to capture high resolution video footage from a choice of two cameras; A smoke detector and small Pinhole camera. This battery powered unit is a complete plug/play system allowing easy rapid deployment. All the equipment is enclosed within a robust carry case to include a small monitor for convenient camera set-up.All stored footage is recorded onto a removable 16Gb SD memory card which can be simply played back on any PC using the supplied viewing software. ACCESS CONTROL

Access Control enables you to control who has access to your building.

Locks and keys also allow you to secure your building, but when keys are lost or stolen, the inconvenience and expense of changing locks and re-issuing keys can be considerable. Keys may also be copied, creating even more security risks.

All businesses, whether small, medium or large, have assets that need to be protected from theft. There is also the issue of protecting staff and their property. It is common in buildings that are secured by locks and keys for doors to be left unlocked all day, which opens up the possibility of opportunist theft and malicious damage. Electronic access control provides the most efficient and convenient way of securing your building and assets.

Installing an access control system means that you will never have to change a lock again. Tokens are issued to allow access through the controlled doors, and are easily barred from the system if they are lost, stolen or just not returned by someone who leaves the company.

Once an access control system is installed, all doors controlled by the system will automatically lock when the door is closed. Anyone without a PIN or access token is unable to enter. If necessary, doors may be set to unlock during a designated time frame.

Access control can also offer flexible control over users access rights. For example, all staff can gain access through the main door of a building, but access to internal areas may be restricted to those who have a specific need to be there. Access may also be restricted by time, only granting access to particular users at certain times of day or night.

ELECTRONIC ARTICLE SURVEILLANCE (EAS)

Retailers know that stock loss through customer and staff theft is a serious threat to their business. Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) systems are a proven technology in assisting with the reduction of stock theft. Volumes of stock loss vary, but in 2007 £4 Billion of stock was expected to be lost, a large proportion of this during the Christmas season.

EAS Tagging systems allow items to be ‘tagged’ with security labels and tags, acting not only as a deterrent to thieves, but also initiating an alarm if items are being removed from premises unlawfully. There are a variety of systems to protect entrances including hidden loop systems and pedestals. We manufacture our own tags and labels to suit all types of requirements and offer a massive range at market leading prices.

What will you need?

A typical tagging system consists of: two pedestals either side of the door (usually spaced at 1.4m to 1.6m); hard tags for items such as clothes (many styles available); labels for boxed items and a detacher / label deactivator for the till point. HD CCTV system application The HD system comprises the latest high definition 4Megapixel 1/3” format colour cameras with full H.264 HD video recording. From a security and risk management perspective, the transition to High Definition (HD) CCTV brings with it a number of concrete benefits in particular it allows the delivery of more detailed images than ever before. With this in mind we are likely to see HD CCTV being particularly favoured for high risk environments such as banking where the identification of faces is a prerequisite. Until relatively recently film was really the only way by which banks could achieve the kind of detail which they required for evidential purposes. In this case the flexibility which comes with digital HD CCTV in terms of the handling of images makes it much mo9re attractive and cost effective than recording onto specialised film. These cameras have an integral auto-‐focus wide angle lens allowing recorded footage to be zoomed into at far greater resolution than conventional CCTV cameras (Up to 9x the resolution). One HD camera has the ability to cover an area that would normally need multiple cameras and at far greater image quality. Live video streams can be recorded direct to a local hard drive NVR (Network Video Recorder) in full 1080 HD @ 25 frames per second. Scot progressed his career by moving to a major national CCTV company in 1998 and took on the role of Service Engineer Supervisor, carrying out service work for many blue chip companies and supporting the team of in-house engineers.

He has vast experience of project managing and installations in the Commercial, Retail and Industrial sectors of the market.
