Specialised burn care facilities in the Netherlands
Holland is a small country (c. 25Okm in cross-section) with a well-developed infrastructure, and a population of about 14 million.
There are three national burn centres, with a combined total of 42 acute beds. The average bed occupancy is about 65-70 per cent.
The consensus among the Dutch burns specialists is that, in the event of a mass burn casualty incident, 10-20 casualties with severe injuries could be managed by the centres together, without compromising the normal high standard of care.
