Acting Antics provides social instruction through theatre and music to children, teens and young adults who experience social difficulties. We offer classes throughout the school year and summer. Our instructors are professional educators who are additionally trained in the Acting Antics techniques. Summer camps are week-long sessions, each session addressing different age and need levels.

Camp Kinney provides a traditional camp experience to children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, ages 3-14, offering positive recreational activities along with opportunities to interact with neurotypical peers. An auxiliary camp program is available to applicants over the age of 14. Camp Kinney is accredited by the American Camp Association.

ESY at The Vanguard School

ESY is open to qualifying students regardless of their educational school year placement. Each summer, a program theme such as “Back to Nature” and “Summer Sleuths” provides an engaging foundation for summer learning and fun. Mornings focus on academic instruction in reading, math, language arts built around a theme. Afternoons are spent participating in structured social and leisure activities, allowing students to reinforce and maintain social and behavioral skills within the context of engaging activities. Additionally, students receive speech-language therapy, occupational therapy and physical therapy as well as counseling as specified in their Extended School Year IEPs. The Vanguard School is an Approved Private School providing programs for and licensed to accept students with a Pennsylvania Department of Special Education exceptionality of autism, speech-language disorders, emotional disturbance and/or other health impairment (OHI). Students at The Vanguard School also may experience developmental disabilities, learning differences or social-emotional or behavioral difficulties.

Hill Top Summer Camp is a traditional day camp program that supports social skills development for campers entering grades 2-9 who may have one or more of the following diagnoses:ADD/ADHD, NVLD, high-functioning Asperger’s Syndrome and social skill needs. Hill Top Summer Camp offers an amazing variety of activities including sports, swimming, sign language, robotics, city building (using Sim City), cooking, weight lifting, martial arts, science activities, drama and arts and crafts. Writing and math remediation is also offered to campers.

A theme is chosen and time is divided between the barn and the classroom showing how the horse unites us. Our horse camps offer school-age children with disabilities an extended chance to connect with a very special therapeutic partner: their horse. In addition to therapeutic riding, campers get a chance to bond with each other while learning more about horses and enhancing their life skills by participating in our special education curriculum, “Strides to Success.” At camp, students learn how to ride and care for their horses and participate in many fun equine-related activities.

Designed especially to support students, 8-21 years of age, with high functioning autism, the programs – traditional day and overnight camp and travel excursions – also support students who have social anxiety or difficulty connecting with their peers. Summer L.I.F.E. offers low camper-to-staff ratio, experienced camp staff, ongoing behavior support, structured daily programming, engaging, multisensory activities and “real world” learning. Our day and overnight camps offer traditional camp activities such as fishing, canoeing, zip lining, crafts and nature study during week-long sessions on a 200-acre wooded camp property in Schwenksville, PA. Participants benefit from the small class sizes, individualized one-to-one instruction and opportunities to work on social skills with their peers. Students who benefit from the program have a variety of strengths and learning styles. Students who attend Summer Voyagers benefit from direct application of learning tricks, executive function skills and The Voyagers Value Program. Summer Voyagers combines small-group academic instruction in reading, math, language arts and written expression with social and recreational opportunities and executive function skill building to give students the tools they need to succeed in school.

Summit Programs include summer sleep away camp, travel for teens (domestic and international) and school year weekender programs. Camp provides a summer sleep away camp experience for boys and girls, ages 8-19, who have issues of attention. These may include Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD and/or ADHD), ASD, Asperger’s syndrome, awkward social skills, High Functioning Autism, verbal or non-verbal learning disabilities (NVLD), and/or mild social or emotional concerns. Summit Travel works with older children, ages 15-19, who have similar issues. The Vanguard Transition Center, under the auspices of the Summer Matters program of Valley Forge Educational Services, offers a summer experience that focuses on life skills, vocational and post-secondary training for students.Participating students will be assigned to one of three cohorts:n Post-Secondary Education n Workforce Development n Vocational and Daily-Living Skills All students will participate in workshops that focus on time and money management, interpersonal skills, self-advocacy, recreation and leisure skills. As part of our five-week program, participating students will spend four days and three nights residing together, along with experienced support staff, at Eastern University while attending regularly-scheduled daily programming. This Independent Living Residency allows participating students to put critical daily-living skills they have learned into practice in a real world setting.
