Significant issues regarding staff changes, lower retreat attendance and cash flow concerned the Board of Directors and staff. They recognized a need to celebrate the sense of family shared by those who find peace and God’s closeness at Manresa, while bolstering its sagging finances. The idea of a festive dinner with an auction appealed to the Board of Directors as a way to accomplish both goals. Board member Judd Hart took the lead in launching the first Gala. Celebrating 10 YearsWe trace the course of our lives in days, and weeks, years and decades—perhaps if we are fortunate, even centuries. Institutions are no different, and Manresa is certainly no exception. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Celebrate Manresa Dinner and Auction Event, offering us the opportunity to celebrate a decade of collaboration between Manresa Jesuit Retreat House and the community of people who have supported the mission and ministry of the retreat house. Over the past ten years Manresa has been able to carry on its work thanks to the generous participation of so many benefactors and donors who have come together each Fall on the anniversary of Manresa’s founding to celebrate its on-going presence and service to the Church and the people of metropolitan Detroit area. The Manresa annual dinner and auction event has become a very important means by which the retreat house has been able not only to continue its ministry, but even to expand its programs and outreach. A generous portion of the evening’s receipts go to support a number of people who would otherwise be unable to afford the cost of a week-end retreat at Manresa. Thanks to the generosity of those who attend the annual Manresa event, we have been able to:

• Purchase brand new mattresses and box springs for all of the bedrooms;• Place benches along the Nature Trail so people can find prayerful spaces on the

grounds;• Improve the Nature Trail to allow better access, safety and installed places for

prayer;• Support those who came to Manresa for retreat but couldn’t afford to donate to

the costs.

There are many other examples that one could point out, but suffice it to say that Manresa is able to sustain its mission supporting people along their spiritual journeys because members of our community offered their support at past Manresa events. We hope you will be able to join us this year.

See you there!
