• There are currently no uniform education and training requirements for pharmacy technicians– No requirements for any formal training beyond GED

– Formal training/certification required

• Each state board of pharmacy responsible for defining the standards and qualifications needed to practice as a technician– Technicians are not required to be registered in all states

• Several national pharmacy organizations have released statements advocating for the adoption of entry-level education and training requirements

• >60% agreed that the variability of state regulations regarding pharmacy technicians should be minimized

• >70% agreed that state boards of pharmacy should require technicians to complete continuing education or other professional development activities for continued registration or licensure
