Logan’s? What Logan’s? That is how we started out February. This was the
month for changes, miss-directions, and Opps. Other than that, it was a
wonderful month.
First, Jake led us on a wonderful ride to Logan’s. The only issue was that Paul
took off on his own, even though we were honking our air horns, yelling, and
flashing lights, Paul continued on his own way. What Paul did not realize was
that we stopped at Longhorns instead of Logan’s as a last minute decision.
You had to be there to believe what transpired.
Then we had “floating plans”. We had planned to visit FL1-T Inverness for their Double Points meeting.
Unfortunately, we had an injury at work and this delayed Ro. We finally made it to their meeting and thank
goodness they were running late. We got to eat and make their meeting. If you have never been to Rexel Drugs
in Inverness, it is a place you need to go. They stay open late for FL1-T’s meeting, and well worth the visit.
And then there was Grahams, but which Grahams? Here we went again. At least this time we were much closer
to the locations involved. We had Grahams Beach Grill scheduled, but they were too small to handle our group.
Luckily, they had another restaurant across the street that could handle us. Grahams Smokehouse. Good place
to go by way. See picture page.
Paul reports on the Chili Cook-off and Wingtoberfest in his article. So I will move on to Our double points
meeting which was Kissy Kissy Kissy. What was with all the kissing? I am not one against public affection,
but in this case I am, because I wasn’t getting in on it.
Skip and Liz, that was an excellent motorcycle safety presentation. You definitely got everyone’s attention. Liz
led us in a quiz of motorcycle safety knowledge. Paul was the “first” one to get the answer correct and Skip
grabbed Paul and gave him a big juicy red lipstick kiss. From then on it was pandemonium. Correct answer,
you got a kiss. Everyone wanted big red lips. Wonderful presentation guys. I know that the chapters that
visited us will take that one back to their chapters.
We are so thankful for the all of the chapters that visited us. FL1-G Deltona, FL1-H Daytona, FL1-H2 Orlando,
FL1-K Palm Coast, and believe it or not, all the way from Ft. Myers, FL2-G. Thank you so much for your
support.
It was a wonder get together. That is what is all about. Getting together as a group and having fun from time to
time with those friends we don’t get to see on a regular basis.
Buddy Freddy’s and Parksdale for Strawberry Shortcake to end the month. Now that is a day. It was a beautiful
day to ride, but unfortunately, Ro and I were grandbaby sitting, so we had to take the car. The biggest problem
was the ride back with 6 flats of fresh strawberries. The smell was wonderful, but very distracting all the way
back.
I do not know what has happened with the traffic patterns in central Florida, but the trip back through Lakeland,
Hanes City, and Kissimmee was painfully slow. The traffic lights are on extended stay. Fair warning, you
might want to find a different direction to go if heading to the Lakeland area from here. I-4 is I-4 and it won’t
get any better, but there has got to be a better way. It use to be that going 92 and 17 was not too bad, but I don’t
recommend it right now.
March is going to be a good month. There are a lot of activities planned, plus the Florida District Rally. We
were trying to put in some extra rides this month, but the calendar got full too fast. We are having to put off
some of the bigger rides until April. Not a bad thing. We will get as much riding in before the hot weather as
we can.
We sure hope to see you at our upcoming events. You never know, it might be a Kissy Kissy night!!! [
Ride Safe and Ride Often,
Mo & Ro…

Florida District Rally to be held at
Hilton/Orlando
350 North Lake Blvd.
Altamonte Springs, FL
Our Chapter has been asked to work the games at the Rally on Friday, March 24th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Please make every effort to come and help support our Chapter at this event. Also, the Daytona Bike Week
celebrations will start on March 10th thru the 19th.
Making the effort to attend the various chapter’s double points meetings, will help bring a better camaraderie
amongst the many chapters within the state of Florida. This also affords the opportunity to build many new
friendships with other members who enjoy riding their Goldwing’s and the GWRRA family beyond their chapter.

In the last few articles, I’ve been talking about the GWRRA
Rider Ed Levels program. Last month, I highlighted Level I,
safety by commitment. This month, the focus is on Level II,
safety by education.
Level II: Tour Rider/Co-Rider
Safety by Education
1) GWRRA member enrolled as Level I
2) Hold a current motorcycle endorsement on
the driver's license
3) Have 5,000 Safe Miles as a GWRRA member
4) Have completed an approved GWRRA riding course within the past three years or a
sanctioned PLP (Parking Lot Practice) within the last year. Co-Rider may substitute the
GWRRA Co-Rider Seminar.
GWRRA recognizes a number of riding courses, including the Motorcycle Safety Foundation and others.
Note that many courses require the rider to complete the course once before the co-rider participates
on the course, but a Co-Rider can always take the Co-Rider Seminar to qualify.
Last month, I also wrote about target fixation and mentioned scanning. Some of us might remember
the acronym SIPDE:
S = Scan
I = Identify
P = Predict
D = Decide
E = Execute
As you drive or ride, you should be constantly scanning, watching for
anything that might be a danger. Once you spot a hazard, you identify
it. Then, you predict what will happen and how to avoid it. You then
decide on your best course of action and, finally, execute an appropriate
action. As noted by an author online, it was a lot easier on a bicycle
going 15mph and much hard on a motorcycle or car going 65mph.
As always, Ride Safe,
Skip & Liz, FL2-N Rider Eds
As we all know, February is a short month, however, we have been a very
active bunch with our three kicktire dinners on Wednesday evenings and our
own double points chapter meeting on the 22nd of this month. On Saturday,
February 4th, we had a great ride to the Longhorn Steakhouse in Sanford. We
had seven members and three guests who participated. All went well, except
somehow I got separated from the group and Mo and Roberta came to find
me. All in all, it was a great day and the food was good.
On the 11th, Paul, myself, Jim and Marcia attended the Annual Ft. Myers
Chapter Chili Cook Off which was held at the Sunsports Honda dealership.
There was also a great car show on the grounds with many types of old cars and hot rods on display. Tom Mitchell
from Deltona won 2nd place in the Chili Cook Off and 1st place was taken by Tampa. They had a silent auction, a 50-
25-25 drawing, and they also gave away a rear tire for a Goldwing as grand prize. It was a great event. After the rally,
Tom and Linda Mitchell took those who wanted to attend on their famous DQ ride.
On the 18th the FL2-A West Palm Chapter had their rally, Wingtoberfest, at the John Stretch Park in Lake Harbor, FL.
There were 200 people in attendance from 15 different chapters. The Fort Lauderdale group won the most attending
from a chapter. Mo and Roberta were the road captains on the ride and took us on an adventurous journey over
many back roads, through fog, smoke and by sugar cane fields. We ventured down many narrow roads with deep
ditches, but we made it to our destination safely. They served up a great meal of hamburgers, brats, potato salad, soft
pretzel, sauerkraut, chips and drinks. There was plenty of beer, that is root beer, and root beer barrel candies were
spread out on the tables. There were many articles for the silent auction which included helmets, carry-all bags,
shirts, jackets, fancy dishes as well as many other items. We liked their new approach for game prizes. They had
various baskets filled with different prizes from baking goods, candy, candles and much more. Whoever’s ticket was
pulled, received one of the baskets which made the drawings more exciting. They had one long table with baskets on
both sides available for this drawing. It was really a neat idea. There was the usual 50/25/25 drawings and grand
prize drawings as well.
