This last year we embarked on a
new road on our journey to end
domestic violence in the
communities throughout Scott and
Carver counties. Our organization
identified one of the biggest barriers
to moving forward to accomplish
our mission is the need for better
visibility in our communities.
Victims don’t know we exist,
potential donors are
unaware of how we
make the community a
safer place to live, and
people are unaware of
the difference they
can make through
volunteering their
time and talents. As a
result, we have
developed a focused,
integrated marketing
plan to carry us forward.
This newsletter unveils our new
look! We are so excited because we
believe it speaks to exactly Who we
are, What we believe in and Where
we want to go. We had some very
clear directives in the design
process.
It was important that we honor
and reflect the legacy and
integrity of the organization
Maxine Kruschke founded and
her vision for the organization.
We needed an updated,
contemporary look and feel that
could be easily recognized and
could stand on its own.
Our sunflower
logo needed to
remain an integral
part of our new
look. It is a vital
part of our story.
Please visit our
website for the
full story.
We wanted
our look to be
compatible with
state and national Domestic
Violence coalitions to reflect our
unity with our shared missions.
As we have presented our new logo
to our Board of Directors and our
staff, it has been rewarding and
enlightening to hear the variety of

interpretations and perspectives.
There have been some common
themes but also some very
unique views on what the logo
means to each individual. We
invite you to spend some time
looking at our logo and share
your views with us.
We will be rolling out the various
elements of our marketing plan
throughout this year, including
new printed material and a new,
responsive and mobile friendly
website to improve access, so
stay tuned. Please help us spread
the word and share your
newsletter or request a

group.

We were so fortunate to have the congregation of St. Michaels Catholic Church in Prior Lake donate to us over 50 bags containing a complete Thanksgiving meal. We in turn were able to pass on their generosity to the victims we serve. Recipients of these meals were so appreciative that they would be able to provide a scrumptious feast for their family. One person who received a meal cried because she was able to have enough food to have left overs to help stretch her food budget. We are just stuffed and overfilled with thank you’s to those who reached into their hearts and pocket books to re-member us in such a special way!
For many years, Pearl Olson donated knitted afghans to SVABW.
When Pearl passed away, her daughter, Sharon Dohrer, directed the
memorials to be made to SVABW. These generous donations should
have been listed in our last newsletter as “In Memory of Pearl Ol-
son.” We apologize to Pearl’s family for this human error.
P.S. We really miss Pearl’s generous spirit and her beautiful af-
ghans!

his year at our Gifts of Hope Holiday giving program, the staff at Southern Valley Alliance for Battered Wom-en received many, many “thank you’s”, hugs and words of great appreciation. All of the expressions of appreciation do not belong to us, but belong to each person who donated the toys and gifts to help others and make the holidays brighter for 40 moms and their 108 children. Many times we heard that if it was not for SVABW, there would not have been gifts under the tree. We wish to share with you some of the heartfelt comments which inspired hope in the spirits of the recipients.
“I was afraid my children wouldn’t have a Christmas this year, but thanks to you I can give them a Christmas to remember!”
“I was so overwhelmed by your generosity. I don’t know how I can ever express my thanks, from the bottom of my heart, thank you!
“I don’t know what I would have done for Christmas presents if it wasn’t for South-ern Valley Alliance for Battered Women, (tear) Thank you all so very much!”
“It was wonderful to work with someone who spoke my language, Spanish. Thanks Gina!”

Training for Crisis line Advocates
begins April 2nd
People often ask the staff as SVABW “How do you do the work you do?” Well, it takes
heart for those who are hurting in their bodies and spirits, it takes courage, and for staff
at SVABW, it is not just a job, it is a calling. Each time we bring a victim to safety, we feel
good that we were able to help the victim on the path to healing and peace. We are seeking
like -minded volunteers to answer the crisis line from the comfort of their own homes and
will commit to two shifts per month as well as make a one year commitment. We will equip
you with our free professional training. For further information, please call 952-873-4214.
To the tune of “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer”
Settia, the little flower, had a very shiny bow And if you didn’t know it, You could see even see it glow, All of the others flowers, Used to laugh and call her names, They wouldn’t let poor Settia, Play in any flower games.
Then one crispy fundraiser day, Mary Ann came to say “Settia with your bow so bright, Won’t you lead the others tonight?”
Then all the other poinsettias, Looked at her with hope and glee, They knew they would all work together To promote and help the agency.

At various times
throughout the year, we receive letters of appreciation for the work we do.
Here is a letter we wish to share with you that really warmed our hearts, and we hope it warms yours too.

In appreciation and thankfulness for the proactive outreach SVABW gives to the battered women and their families, I would like to make a dona-tion of $200.00. My good friend Laurie Green is a volunteer with SVABW and I am in awe of her courage and active engagement in this organization. Laurie is a per-son of action. I have so much admiration for her (as well as all the volunteers) who give so freely and selflessly of their time for the organization. God bless for all you do and continue to do.
$200.00 direct donation $75.00-3 red poinsettias (in memory of my Dad 10/15/15)
Many thanks to all of our volunteers who helped wrap and deliver 567 Bachman’s poinsettias to homes and businesses.

Scott County Chiefs’ Meeting... On Thursday, December 10th SVABW hosted the monthly Scott County Police Chiefs’ Meeting at which time
we were able to make a presentation to them about the services we provide and also talk to them about
how domestic violence impacts childrens’ lives. We were pleased with the wonderful turn out and would
like to thank the following for attending:
