tos show our College cheer-leaders leading our college learners in song at the event as they supported the ath-letes on the field. Our learn-ers sang and cheered all day long and made a very posi-tive impression throughout the long hot day. The ath-letes must have felt the support because they also did not disappoint.
Spirit & Support for College Athletes The Independent Schools Inter-high Athletics competition was the first occasion at which the College wore their formal school uniform off campus. Many compliments were received from the other schools present. The pho-
hurdles and the 100m and 200m races. Olga Ramotwala performed well in the 800m, achiev-ing a second place. Jennifer Mokoena, Mulungisi Matsane, Eric Mpande, Fumani Khumalo and various other athletes also performed well in various events on the day. The College athletes will now take part in circuit and cluster meetings in Phalaborwa to try and qualify for the district athletics team. They will also compete as a team at the small schools inter-high athletics competi-
tion in Polokwane on Saturday 11 February.
As the smallest school at the Limpopo Inde-pendent Schools’ Athletics Meeting, our athletes definitely punched well above their weight. Our athletes accumulated enough points during the course of the day to finish fifth out of the ten schools participating. A number of athletes produced outstanding performances. Tony Mokoena (U19) won both the long jump and the discus and finished second in the shot put. Bernadette Naude (U14) achieved a 2nd place in the 1500m and 3rd in high jump, 800m and 100m. Naeem Razak placed second in the 100m

Preparing an SCS MTB Track
A small group of children got together on Sunday 5
February to clear the cross-country/mountain biking
track as we start to prepare a track for the proposed
cycle race on 28 July. The clearing was followed by a
time trial and then a swim in the pool. Thanks to Paul
Mittermayer, Colleen Taylor and all the children for
their hard work! The three boys that arrived later in
the afternoon are not included in the photo alongside.
The Grade 4’s held a “modeparade” during
their Afrikaans les-
son on Thursday.
After learning the
vocabulary for dif-
ferent items of
clothing each learner
had to write a narra-
tive of what they
were wearing. This
was then read as
they paraded down
the runway. Great
fun was had by all!

Water, Water Everywhere!
We would like to thank the Hoedspruit Christian School for deliver-ing bottled water to Southern Cross last week. Your kindness is highly appreciated at this rather difficult time regarding the supply of fresh drinking water.
Learning All About Our Senses
The Grade R class was treated to a wonderful selection of cup cakes, baked by Savannah Gutteridge and her mom. The cup cakes were part of a lesson on “taste” as one of the senses. Not only did the children experience a tasty treat but they will also no doubt have very fond memories of this particular lesson.
