YEAR 4 CURRICULUM NEWS
We are continuing to work extremely hard in Year 4. In English we
have been writing a newspaper report based on a fictional house fire,
which leaves the children in
A Series of Unfortunate
Events, as orphans. We pre-
tended to be news reporters,
so that we could interview
witnesses. This helped us
learn to use
dialogue in our writing.
In Maths we have been learning about decimals. We have learned to
divide numbers by 10 and 100 and round decimals to the nearest
whole number. Our times table knowledge
continues to support our calculations.
In P.E. we have been developing the skills needed to play badminton.
We have enjoyed being outside and
learning to ‘serve’ to our friends. We
also had a great time celebrating
Sport Relief. We were busy during
the week making our Sport Relief
money boxes, and managed to raise
£76 as a class! We are very proud.
We have continued our Mountains and Fieldwork Topic, and have
produced some fantastic Home Learning Projects.
In Science we have been learning more about Geology, particularly
identifying fossils, rocks and stones. In our final lesson we talked
about the layers of soil and made our own edible soil, using chocolate
cake, gummy worms and coconut. It was the most delicious soil we
have ever eaten!

School Trips
Year 1 had a great time on their trip to Wildwood on Tuesday
We learned so much about the different animals and what they eat. Lots of children liked the bears the best!
Thank you so much to all the adults that came along, the staff and children are very grateful for your help.
Year 3 Trip to Dover— Written by Hollie Appleby
On Monday 19th March Year 3 went on an amazing trip to learn about Prehistoric Britain. We all travelled by
coach to Dover Museum. On the way there we saw Dover Harbour and some big boats.
First, Hannah showed us how to make Bronze Age boats and cargo out of clay. Then I made a boat. It was a
little tricky to make but luckily Hannah helped me.
After that, we met Martin, who showed us some artefacts. We saw an Iron Age sword and had so much fun
with Martin.
In the end, we got to see the big wooden boat. It was so big and we walked around the boat. We also
watched a film about how the boat was discovered.
Then, it was time to get on the coach and go home.
Year 5 Trip to Maidstone Museum
Last week, Year 5 walked down to Maidstone Museum. We attended an exciting workshop called, ‘Night at the
Museum’. In groups, we were able to film our own version of the popular film on ipads. We explored the
museum and found inspiration for our films from the different rooms. We made up stories about different
artefacts and figures, including dinosaurs coming to life, and took turns at filming, narrating and acting. We
thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and can’t wait to watch each other’s films on the big screen at school.
Year 1 Play
The Year 1 play Little Red Riding Hood was wonderful! The children and parents enjoyed it and we are grateful
for all the fantastic costumes.
The children did so well learning their lines, playing instruments, singing the songs
(without lyrics on the music) and organising the props.

SPORT RELIEF
The entire school took part in supporting Sport Relief last week. We
started the week with an assembly explaining what Sport Relief is and
what charities it supports, both in the UK and the rest of the world. We
practised the Sport Relief song and made our Sport Relief money boxes.
We then waited for the big day to arrive!
Luckily, the sun shone on us which made our Sport Relief day
even more fantastic. Everybody took part in dancing, hula
hooping, skipping and agility ladders, finished off with an
attempt at Beat the Goalie. The Year 5 and 6 helpers were
fantastic, in fact our day would not have been possible without
them.
By the end of the day everybody was tired but happy.
We had a brilliant day, and most importantly we raised
£590!!!!
