The tournament title, the 40th in program history, was OU’s first since the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic in 2008 and its first under second-year head coach Veronique Drouin. The Sooners were bolstered by Ellen Mueller’s first collegiate individual crown. Like her team, the senior led from wire to wire and won comfortably. Mueller’s 7-under-par 209 represented an OU 54-hole record and made her the 20th different Sooner to win a tournament (29 total titles). She won by a cozy seven shots over second-place Kristina Merkle of host Tulsa. “I have been working hard on my mental game and putting,” said Mueller after the win. “This week I was able to not focus on the score and just play against the golf course.” Mueller, who shot a career-low 67 (-5) in the first round and followed with a second-round 73 (+1) , fired a 3-under 69 in the final round and was one of just three players to break par on the day. She recorded 16 birdies during the event, 12 of them on The Patriot’s back nine. It was her third straight top-10 finish and 13th of her career. Joining Mueller in the top 10 were sophomore Taylor Schmidt and freshman Chirapat Jao-Javanil. Schmidt finished in a career-best third-place tie with a career-low 2-over 218. She carded 11 birdies during the three-day event and her 2-under second-round 70 marked an 18-hole career low. Jao-Javanil finished in a career-best seventh-place tie with a 5-over 221 after shooting a 4-over 76 Thursday. It was the Thailand native’s second top-10 and fourth top-40 finish in four fall tournaments. Freshmen Anne-Catherine Tanguay (231, +15) and Emily Collins (241, +25) finished tied for 34th and 59th, respectively. Another freshman, Mariah Montoya, competed as an individual and finished tied for 83rd (257, +41). “I’m so proud of the girls,” said Drouin. “They played well all week. This team is very special. The Oklahoma women’s golf team’s fi nal 2010 fall tournament was an extraordinary one as the Sooners

shot a 54-hole score of 877 (+13) to claim the Dale McNamara Invitational title in convincing fashion at

The Patriot Golf Club in Owasso, Okla.

OU’s three-round total was a whopping 23 strokes better than second-place Oklahoma State and Texas

(+36). The 16-team fi eld also included fellow Big 12 members Kansas State (10th place, +67), Missouri

(11 place, +68) and Nebraska (14th place, +74).

The tournament title, the 40th in program history, was OU’s fi rst since the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic

in 2008 and its fi rst under second-year head coach Veronique Drouin.

The Sooners were bolstered by Ellen Mueller’s fi rst collegiate individual crown. Like her team, the senior

led from wire to wire and won comfortably. Mueller’s 7-under-par 209 represented an OU 54-hole record

and made her the 20th diff erent Sooner to win a tournament (29 total titles). She won by a cozy seven

shots over second-place Kristina Merkle of host Tulsa.

“I have been working hard on my mental game and putting,” said Mueller after the win. “This week I was

able to not focus on the score and just play against the golf course.”

Mueller, who shot a career-low 67 (-5) in the fi rst round and followed with a second-round 73 (+1) , fi red a

3-under 69 in the fi nal round and was one of just three players to break par on the day. She recorded 16 birdies during

the event, 12 of them on The Patriot’s back nine. It was her third straight top-10 fi nish and 13th of her career.

Joining Mueller in the top 10 were sophomore Taylor Schmidt and freshman Chirapat Jao-Javanil. Schmidt fi nished in

a career-best third-place tie with a career-low 2-over 218. She carded 11 birdies during the three-day event and her

2-under second-round 70 marked an 18-hole career low.

Jao-Javanil fi nished in a career-best seventh-place tie with a 5-over 221 after shooting a 4-over 76 Thursday. It was

the Thailand native’s second top-10 and fourth top-40 fi nish in four fall tournaments.

Freshmen Anne-Catherine Tanguay (231, +15) and Emily Collins (241, +25) fi nished tied for 34th and 59th,

respectively. Another freshman, Mariah Montoya, competed as an individual and fi nished tied for 83rd (257, +41).

“I’m so proud of the girls,” said Drouin. “They played well all week. This team is very special. They believed in the

vision I have for the program.

“It’s a great way to fi nish the fall. We’ve been working hard all season and to have this payoff is a great way to end our

fall season.” 1

The University of Oklahoma women’s golf team made

history this fall, breaking numerous school records

and continuing to raise the level of program expecta-

tions.

“We had a solid fall, the girls worked really hard to get

to where we were at the end of the semester,” said OU

head coach Veronique Drouin. “I think our perfor-

mance on the course really refl ects the hard work and

commitment these girls have to the game and to the

team.”

The Sooners placed in the top three in all four of their

fall tournaments, including second-place fi nishes

at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic and the Johnie

Imes Invitational and a fi rst-place fi nish at the Dale

McNamara Invitational.

Oklahoma’s hot start marked the fi rst time in program

history that the Sooners placed in the top three in

each of their fi rst three tournaments of the season.

It was also the fi rst time since 1986 that the Sooners

fi nished in the top two in three consecutive tourna-

ments.

OU began its 2010 fall campaign with a third-place

fi nish at the 21-team Cougar Classic in Charleston, S.C.

The Sooners’ three-round score of 872 (+8) broke the

school record for lowest 54-hole total by two strokes.

Freshman Emily Collins led the Sooners with an

eighth- place fi nish, posting a three-round score of

216 (E). Collins’ debut performance was the lowest

54-hole score by an OU golfer playing in their fi rst

collegiate tournament.

Fall Recap: Rewriting the Record BookFall Recap: Rewriting the Record BookThe Sooners returned to Norman to host the 32nd Su-

sie Maxwell Berning Classic at the Jimmie Austin OU

Golf Club. In the opening round of the tournament, OU

tied the program record for lowest round, combining

for a 1-under 287.

Drouin’s squad would go on to fi nish in second place,

fi ve strokes behind champion Arkansas. Oklahoma’s

54-hole score of 876 was the best total score by

a Sooner team Susie Maxwell history. Freshman

Anne-Catherine Tanguay fi nished in third place with

a two-under 214, the lowest 54-hole total ever by an

OU freshman.

In preparation for this spring’s Big 12 Champion-

ship, the Sooners next competed in the Johnie Imes

Invitational in Columbia, Mo. The event took place at

the Club at Old Hawthorne, which will host the 2011

Big 12 Championship in April.

OU shot a 54-hole score of 878 (+14) to fi nish in a tie

for second place.

Oklahoma’s fi nal fall tournament was an extraordi-

nary one as the Sooners won the Dale McNamara Invi-

tational by 23 strokes. The Sooners shot a three-round

877 (+13) at The Patriot Golf Club in Owasso, Okla.

The Sooners were bolstered by Ellen Mueller’s fi rst

collegiate individual crown. Mueller’s 7-under-par

209 broke the OU 54-hole record by two strokes. Her

career-high fi rst round score of 67 (-5) set a course

record at The Patriot and fell one stroke shy of tying

the school record for best round score. It was also the

fi rst time OU claimed both team and individual titles

in a road tournament since the 1993 New Mexico

State Invitational.

Senior Ellen Mueller broke the OU

54-hole record by two strokes in her

win at the Dale McNamara

Invitational.
