Fortunate son• Challenges the Government’s want to go to

war.• “Some folks are made to wave the flag, oh

they’re red, white, and blue. And when the band plays Hail to the Chief, oh they point the cannon at you.”

• Also challenges peoples willingness to follow their government and presidents decision to go to war.

• The song tries to instill thoughts of standing up to the government.

Break on through to the other side

• The Doors talk about draft dodging as if it is not only acceptable but also enjoyable.

• During this time a lot of Americans ran to “the other side” a.k.a. Canada to avoid the Vietnam war

• “We chased our pleasures here, dug our treasures there.”

• Even though their lives and treasures are in the US, they chase their lives or “pleasures” of living to Canada

Run through the jungle• Credence Clearwater Revival’s song is entirely about

the Vietnam War and some of its horrors. • The whole song almost has the feeling of a horror

film with descriptions of the devil, Satan, and the only thing to do is run and don’t look back.

• “Over on the mountain, thunder magic spoke. Let the people know my wisdom, fill the land with smoke. Better run through the jungle.”

• The writer describes the only thing he can do is warn you, and to burn the jungle down is the only solution.

Let it be• John Lennon compiles a soft, loving, angelic

master piece in his song Let It Be • His song symbolizes the peaceful nature of the

1960’s hippie, of just wanting to get along and having no confrontation.

• “when I find myself in times of trouble, mother Mary comes to me, speaking words of wisdom, let it be. And in my hour of darkness she is standing right in front of me, speaking words of wisdom, let it be”

• Lennon may have been on to something maybe we all need to just let things happen

Volunteer• A main topic of the 1960’s was revolution against the

government and the governments imposing ways• Through music Jefferson Airplane felt a revolution

was possible • “one generation got old, one generation got soul.

This generation got no destination to hold, pick up and cry. Hey now its time for you and me, Got a revolution Got to revolution”

• Not only was a revolution possible but it was neccessary
