Somerset born Kiddimoto, the UKs original balance bike company, has been inspired by lile ones and their praconers to develop Balance Buddies - an acve, fun, EYFS resource. We have teamed up with Early Years professionals and the Preschool Learning Alliance, mixed in our 14 years of balance bike experse, to provide a unique package that fits your curriculum and gets kids ready to cycle. For those who may not be familiar, a balance bike is a bike with no pedals and no stabilisers, making it a really simple plaorm for a child to develop gross motor skills, strength, coordinaon, balance and confidence. Children who ride bikes with stabilisers learn how to pedal but not to balance, so have to start a lengthy learning process all over again when the stabilisers are removed. We at Balance Buddies are keen to see children learn to cycle safely from as early as possible and where beer to start than with you. For many children, early educaonal sengs can somemes be the only opportunity for physical acvity and structured play. We were shocked to hear that 1 out of 5 Recepon children were classed as overweight or obese (Public Health England, 2014/15) and only 1% of primary school children cycle to school (Department for Transport, 2015). The NHS advise that Children of pre-school age who are capable of walking unaided should be physically acve daily for at least 180 minutes”. Balance Buddies is an enjoyable way for children to get acve through play. We have designed a complete pack of acvity plans suitable for children aged 22-60+months and have aligned all seven areas of learning from the EYFS, from Literacy to Understanding the World. Now children can develop essenal early learning skills, whilst taking the first steps to learning how to ride a bike. Cheddar First School are really enjoying their Balance Buddies package: Cheddar First School Recepon children have been extending their learning on balance bikes from Kiddimoto. Not only are we thrilled that children are developing their physical co- ordinaon but we are using them to enhance our outdoor maths and literacy curriculum. Somerset born Kiddimoto, the UK’s original balance bike company, has been inspired by little ones and their practitioners to develop Balance Buddies - an active, fun, EYFS resource. We have teamed up with Early Years professionals and the

Preschool Learning Alliance, mixed in our 14 years of balance

bike expertise, to provide a unique package that fits your

curriculum and gets kids ready to cycle.

For those who may not be familiar, a balance bike is a bike with no pedals and no stabilisers, making it a really simple platform for a child to develop gross motor skills, strength, coordination, balance and confidence. Children who ride bikes with stabilisers learn how to pedal but not to balance, so have to start a lengthy learning process all over again when the stabilisers are removed.

We at Balance Buddies are keen to see children learn to cycle safely from as early as possible and where better to start than with you. For many children, early educational settings can sometimes be the only opportunity for physical activity and structured play.

We were shocked to hear that 1 out of 5 Reception children

were classed as overweight or obese (Public Health England,

2014/15) and only 1% of primary school children cycle to school

(Department for Transport, 2015). The NHS advise that “Children

of pre-school age who are capable of walking unaided should be

physically active daily for at least 180 minutes”. Balance Buddies

is an enjoyable way for children to get active through play.

We have designed a complete pack of activity plans suitable for

children aged 22-60+months and have aligned all seven areas

of learning from the EYFS, from Literacy

to Understanding the World. Now

children can develop essential early

learning skills, whilst taking the first

steps to learning how to ride a bike.

Cheddar First School are really enjoying

their Balance Buddies package:

“Cheddar First School Reception

children have been extending their

learning on balance bikes from Kiddimoto. Not only are we

thrilled that children are developing their physical co-

ordination but we are using them to enhance our outdoor

maths and literacy curriculum. Thanks for making learning

fun.” Mrs Wookey, Head Teacher at Cheddar First School

We have been up and down Somerset running free Balance

Buddies workshops throughout the summer and we’re still
