About us - Prof David Crawford

Professor at the University of Essex in Colchester, and Senior Lecturer at Ravensbourne in London, with interests in ‘beyond HD’ multimedia services and ‘Big Data’ science projects. He is well-known in the engineering fraternity, and has worked for over 40 years in industry and academia, and has led a number of DVB and ETSI Technical Standards Groups. David lectures on ICT, Transmission Systems and Commercialisation of Intellectual Property, and leads a small Consultancy Company supporting young entrepreneurs and new technologies. David is a Member of SMPTE, the Royal Television Society, a Fellow and Council Board member of the IET, and is the Executive Producer for the annual IBC Conference Technology Sessions.

Currently the Hon Sec and Treasurer SMPTE UK section –with almost 40 year experience in “Projects” for BBC and its subsidiaries – working across the world – NPR and SABC. Principal Broadcast Technologist in Media Systems for

Siemens (which took over BBC Technology)i.e, “Top broadcaster and techie/expert” Project Director for International Super Hi Vision in 2008 . Led Standardisation of Teletext + for ETSI, Subtitles for DVB

Introduced new technologies including Audio & Video over IP.

Member of IET –served on many committees! – RTS – ditto!Member and award winner of SMPTE –

@ IBC – the power behind Rising Stars and their tours....
