I. Introduction A. We are to know God and make Him known.
B. When we make God known through our lives we glorify Him.
C. “God’s glory is the visible display of His brightness and excellency.” —John Hannah
D. We are to glorify God in all we say and do. (1 Corinthians 10:31)
E. All the Solas lead to Soli Deo Gloria.
Soli Deo Gloria means that all that we are and all that we do is to be for the glory of God alone.
II. How do we know this to be a foundational truth? It is seen in the fact that: A. We were created for the glory of God alone. (Genesis 1:26–28)
1. We were made in God’s image and likeness to display His glory.
2. Being made in God’s image means to have a mind, heart, will and emotions that
reflect the very nature and character of God.
3. That glory was lost at the fall due to sin.
4. We still have God’s image in the sense we still think, reason, choose, act and feel –
but not like God anymore. (Romans 1:18-25)
5. Which is why God had to save us to restore His glory in us.
B. We were saved for the glory of God alone. (Ephesians 1:11–14)
1. All of us sinned and fall short of His glory. (Romans 3:23)
2. God had to redeem us through the blood of Christ and restore God’s glory in us.
(Romans 3:24–25)
3. Jesus lives in us in the Person of the Holy Spirit to display that glory again. (Colos-
sians 1:27; 2 Corinthians 3:12–18)
4. The primary reason Jesus died was to bring God glory and restore that glory in us.
(John 17:1–5; 17:22)
5. Which is why we are called to live for God’s glory.
C. We are called to live for God’s glory alone. (1 Corinthians 10:31)
1. We glorify God by how we live in the routine and relationships of our every day.
2. When we live for God’s glory sometimes we suffer—but we can rejoice because the
suffering and trials are increasing the glory for God and in us. (Romans 8:16–18;
1 Peter 4:12–14; 2 Corinthians 4:16–18; Psalm 115:1)
III. Conclusion 1 Corinthians 10:31

SERMON REFLECTIONS• In your own words, what does God mean when He refers to His glory?
• Genesis 1 says we were made in the image and likeness of God. We were created to reveal His
glory. How does it impact you to know you were created for that purpose? While His image
remains, the glory was lost. How was that glory lost?
• Ephesians 1 says we were saved “for the praise of His glory.” How is the glory of God restored in
our lives through hearing and believing the gospel?
• Read 1 Corinthians 10:31. What does it mean to live for the glory of God in everything? How is
living for the glory of God actually accomplished?
• Paul told the Romans if we share in His sufferings we will also share in His glory. How do
statements like this help you to deal with and have a right perspective on the trials and suffering
we face?
• How is living Soli Deo Gloria an appropriate, necessary and God-honoring act of worship?
1 CORINTHIANS 10:31So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
