Solartron’s new 2540 Multi-stream Liquid Flow Computer is the mostaccurate and powerful flow computer available today. Combining acomprehensive range of facilities into a compact, cost effective and reliable package, it fulfils all the requirements of fiscal metering world-wide, now... and for the foreseeable future.

Greater accuracy, improved product quality, the ability to handle multiple productsefficiently, less wastage, and the guarantee that future operator needs can be meteasily are just some of the benefits offered by the 2540.

Automatic product detectionThe 2540 Flow Computer recognizes -by density or specific gravity - up to 20different fluid products flowing throughany of the four metering runs. Ondetection, products are automaticallydiverted to the relevant line or tank inthe plant.

Each named product has its owndedicated totalizers and uniqueflowmeter calibration data, which canbe invoked automatically to ensureoptimum accuracy and quality control.

The 2540 can generate individualProduct Batch Reports when theproduct flowing in the meter runchanges. These reports log alloperating parameters and flow totals fora particular product, and provide anaudit trail.

Cost effective Multi-stream monitoringand controlThe 2540 can monitor up to fourmetering runs, and handles both typesof commonly encountered flowschemes: 4x4x4 and 1x4x1.

In the 4x4x4 scheme the runs arecompletely independent, each with itsown flow meter and associatedinstrumentation (typically pressure, temperature, density and viscosity); thefluid can be common, or may bedifferent in each run.

The 1x4x1 scheme has a singlecommon inlet which divides into 4 runs, each having its own flowmeter, pressureand temperature measurement. The common inlet header typically has on-line density and/or viscositymeasurement, which can be referred tometer run conditions, using either API or4x5 Matrix Referral, all under the controlof the flow computer.

FlowmeterperformanceenhancementBuilt-in facilities in the 2540 significantlyimprove flow measurement uncertainty -essential for custody transferapplications - and also give improvedproduct quality and reduced wastage.

Linearization: The 2540 stores a 10-point linearization curve (K-factor v.frequency or %error v. flowrate) forcorrecting the inherent non-linearity offlowmeters, particularly turbines.

Viscosity Compensation: The 2540can accept up to four calibration curvesto compensate for the effect of differentviscosities on flow meter performance.Alternatively, unique calibration data foreach product can be entered for eachflow meter, optimizing the performancefor each product.

➔ ➔ ➔ ➔ ➔ ➔Transactions and batchingThe 2540 generates and logs records -often known as Batch Records (orQuantity Transaction Records, QTRs) - of flow totals and other operating details. These can be initiated and stopped by avariety of methods, giving total controlover their generation, and enabling flowtotal for each shift or day to be recorded.Flow of individual products can betracked and even batched into definedquantities, if required. Time: A new batch is triggered auto-matically, typically every hour, shift or day.

Manual: Batches are triggered andstopped manually on demand from thekeypad or via a remote comms input.

Product: With automatic productdetection enabled, whenever the productchanges, the current batch is completed, and a new one started.

Quantity: Each time a batch quantity(set by the user) is reached, a batchreport is produced and the flow can bestopped. This facility allows fluids to bebatched by volume or mass.

ProvingTo complement its outstanding flowmeasurement capabilities, the 2540also provides full prover control for uni-directional and bi-directional pipeprovers, compact provers and can evencontrol master meter provers, utilizingthe fifth flow meter input.

CommunicationsThe 2540 is easily integrated into plant-wide networks. It has full RS232 and485 interfaces for data acquisition andexternal supervisory control. In addition, inputs from up to 16 HART transmittersare supported.

Report generationComprehensive report generationfacilities are an integral part of the 2540.Standard reports include a completelisting of configuration data; an alarmreport; a prover report; and a listing of‘auditable events’, which shows anycritical changes made to the operationof the flow computer, such as flow andcalibration parameters, etc.

In addition, user-defined reports can becreated to generate listings of specifieddata manually or at pre-determinedintervals. All 2540 reports can beprinted or downloaded when required.

Built-in reliability2540’s internal database is continuallyupdated from input channels.Measurement critical data is stored innon-volatile memory, and is triplicatedand cross-validated on everymeasurement cycle to ensure dataremains uncorrupted.
