Where can Solarkote® take you?Solarkote® acrylic capstock can take you into the most demand-ing applications. Whether it be a sun scorched deck, a wave beaten kayak, or an ice blasted snowmobile.

Solarkote® acrylic capstock has taken common products to the next level. Tire covers and cargo haulers go from dull accessories to striking clear coated metallic accents. Composite handrails go from a rough and splintery surface to the lasting look and feel of freshly painted wood. White and cream colored siding and windows of the 70’s are now available in modern vibrant colors. Painted metal parts go to a high performance polymer system with a Class A acrylic finish.

Solarkote® acrylic capstock provides best in class surfaces for commercial, industrial and consumer products that demand superior weatherability and durability. Acrylic layers bring years of life with long lasting color and surface appearance to a wide variety of substrate materials.

Solarkote® A FamilyOriginally developed for co-extrusion over ABS, Solarkote® A is now used as a clear and pre-colored capstock for multi-material systems for a variety of applications including spa, trans-portation, window profile, and marine. Solarkote® A provides the best chemical resistance and abrasion resistance of the Solarkote® products.

Solarkote® H FamilySolarkote® H was developed as a capstock for HIPS but is now used in multi-materials sheet and profile systems including ABS, PVC, and WPC. Applications include shower surrounds, window profiles, deck boards, and garage door panels. Solarkote® H has a wide processing window and is the only product that adheres to HIPS.

Solarkote® P FamilySolarkote® P is the most ductile grade of Solarkote® available with nearly 1.5x the impact strength of Solarkote® A or H. Originally developed for the Building and Construction market, this product is now available as a custom sheet product.

Solarkote® PB Solarkote® PB is an acrylic resin powder, designed to be alloyed with PVC resin and additives in order to give improved weathering compared to all PVC, and attractive economics compared to an all acrylic capstock.

Plexiglas® GTPlexiglas® GT grades were developed to offer superior gloss after thermoforming, Distinctness of Image, and abrasion resistance. These products were developed to be co-extruded over Solarkote® and provide enhanced aesthetic properties to thermoformed parts. However, GT products do not offer the UV screening characteristics of products in the Solarkote® line.

Solarkote® T FamilySolarkote® T is a system approach that uses a patented tie-layer to combine the aesthetics and surface properties of PMMA with the toughness of TPO.

Solarkote® acrylic capstock was engineered for thin application to provide the advantages of an acrylic surface while maintaining the properties and economics of the substrate.

The performance characteristics of Solarkote® acrylic capstock make it the surface of choice for outdoor applications:

• Lawn & Garden/Heavy Agriculture Thermoformed body and roof panels, automotive components, accessories and body panels

• Building and Construction Window lineals, decking, railing, siding cladding, fencing, trim and roofing materials, pool spa/ hot tub, steps shells, covers and surrounds

• Sanitary Tubs, shower surrounds, sinks and solid surfaces

A single process delivers durable sur face protection with high quality color, eliminating the need for a paint step, while ensuring sur face integrity.

Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene is characterized by its stiffness, high dimensional stability and impact resistance. ABS is an outstanding material for most opaque, heavy-gauge, thermoformed products except for its poor weathering performance.

High Impact Polystyrene has a robust process window where neither the resin nor sheet requires drying prior to extrusion or thermoforming. New grades in the HIPS family have impact performance approaching traditional ABS, but generally speaking, HIPS is a simpler polymer comprised of lower-cost raw materials that does not have the physical performance of ABS. Consequently, this lower-cost material generally is used in applications that are subject to fewer mechanical or thermal stresses.

Thermoplastic Olefin is known for its high impact performance including superior impact retention at low temperatures.

Polyvinyl Chloride is one of the most versatile of all thermoplastics. Often highly filled, impact-modified or plasticized, PVC has reinvented itself numerous times in its long history. Because of its versatility in compounding, and terrific natural balance of physical properties and cost, PVC has been the material of choice for numerous applications across market segments.

Thermoplastic and thermoset composites filled with wood, cellulosic, glass, inorganic and performance additives offer superior strength, rigidity and improved dimensional stability.
