Laboratory analysis The following tables are the result of laboratory analyses of soil samples from 27 Agricultural Development Areas (ADAs) in Brunei (Table 1) that were carried out at CSIRO Land and Water laboratories in Adelaide and Canberra in 2006.

The methods used are given in Table 2. In the subsequent tables, each sample is identified by the site from which it was taken is identified by a site number (e.g. 23 0001) and layer number. The first two digits of the site number refer to the ADA (see below) and the last four to a particular location within the ADA. The georeference of these locations can be found in the GIS of the ADAs. The soil layer from which the sample was taken is identified both by a number and an upper and lower depth (in centimetres). In the tables the data is sorted first by ADA, then by site number, then by layer number.

DISCLAIMER for Tables 9 and 10: Soil analysis using mid infrared (MIR) technology

CSIRO does not take any responsibility for decisions or actions that might be taken as a result of soil analyses obtained usingMIR predictions of soil properties. The predictions are experimental at this stage and pending full validation. Although every effort has been made to accurately predict soil properties, some soil spectra may not be accurately represented by the calibration model used for prediction and result in prediction errors exceeding those reported for the calibration sets. If actions are to be taken based on the results of this soil analysis, conventional soil analysis should first be undertaken for confirmation. (We would recommend 10-20% of the total submitted).

Special Note : For MIR estimates, the F ratio indicator (F1) equals Fratio/2.5+0.5 and is a spectral measure of how well the unknown matches the calibration set. A F1 value >3 indicates a poor spectral fit, but does not necessarily indicate that the result is in error. The result may in fact be correct, but confidence in the result is reduced with increasing F1 values. High concentrations of CaCO3 (>3%) often lead to higher F1 values, but these errors may not be associated with MIR and may in fact be due to the problems these samples can present to "normal" laboratory methods.
