- 2. Soil is the most important resource in agriculture. It provides to the plants everything they need.
- 3. It is estimated that every year almost 4 tons of soil are lost
- 4. Soil takes one hundred years to form one centimeter.
- 5. Most of the agriculture in Nicaragua, El Salvador and Honduras is developed on slopes.
- 6. And most of the poor people lives on slopes.
- 7. The practice of agriculture on slopes causes the lost of until 16 tons of soil
- 8. All that soil goes to the rivers and then to the ocean.
- 9. So that soil cant be recovered.
- 10. And the soil on slopes is each year less.
- 11. So if the soil is less, there is less fertility in the soil to grow crops.
- 12. And the quality of our food is lower than what it was years ago
- 13. The two main causes of the soil lost, better called erosion.
- 14. Hydric erosion.
- 15. Eolic erosion.
- 16. The question is. Which could be the solution to avoid and control this big problem? The answer: Soil conservation measures on slopes.
- 17. There are many things we can do to conserve the soil and its fertility by practicing a well done agriculture.
- 18. Creating hedgerows on slopes.
- 19. By creating dead barriers with rocks.
- 20. By implementing leveled curves.
- 21. By making drains.
- 22. So that way, we can conserve the soil and its fertility.
- 23. And the people who lives on slopes will produce better crops with better qualities and will earn more money
