WHAT IS SOFTWARE?● The programs that run on a computer and

perform certain functions● It consists of a series of instructions and data,

that enable us to benefit of all the resources that the computer has, so you can solve many problems.

SOFTWARE FUNCTIONS

TYPES OF SOFTWARE● System Software: A set of programs that

manage computer resources.- Examples: Central processing unit, communication devices and peripherals, system software manages and controls access hardware.

● Application Software: Programs are written to or users to perform a specific task on the computer.-We use it to process text,to generate a spreadsheet, the application software must be on the system software to operate.

● The software development industry has become a major player in the global economy as it moves millions of dollars a year. The largest and most popular company in the world is Microsoft, founded in 1975 by Bill Gates and Paul Allen. This company was able to transcend with its Windows and its Office software suite Office OS.

HARDWARE● It is the set of components that make the

material part of a computer● The hardware is usually distinguished from

basic (the devices necessary to initiate operation of a computer) and complementary (perform specific functions).

TYPES OF HARDWARE● BASIC HARDWARE: this kind of hardware is

made by those essential devices for minimal operation of a computer. The cabinet, RAMs and ROMs are are examples.

● HARDWARE COMPLEMENTARY: Includes all elements of which it is possible to do without, and yet the functionality of your computer is not affected. Examples of additional hardware are reading Webcam or optical disc drive.

COMPONENTS OF HARDWARE

● Network:is a computer circuit board or card that is installed in a computer so that it can be connected to a network.

● Hard disk:is part of a unit that stores and provides quick access to large amounts of data on an electromagnetically charged surface or set of surfaces.

● USB drive:are portable, removable storage devices that use flash memory and connect to a computer's USB port.

● Main drive:primary storage holds data that is in active use.

● Processor: is a small chip that resides in computers and other electronic devices. Its basic job is to receive input and provide the appropriate output.

● Keyboard:is one of the primary input devices used with a computer.

● Monitor:a electronic device used to record, regulate and control a process or system.
