cultures of the indigenous peoples of British Columbia• Students interested in joining the RCMP• Students entering the legal or paralegal professions• Students interested in studying Archaeology• Students interested in studying local history• Students looking for an alternative to Social Studies 11 or

Civic Studies 11

How We Judge Our Top Students

• Students in Grade 12– Students must be enrolled in at least three Grade 12

Social Studies courses to receive the top overall student award.

– Individual course awards are given out as well.– Based on in class GPA, not Provincial Exam marks– Based on in class work habits and participation– Based on discussion and assessment of in class work

by all teachers of a grade 12 Social Studies course.– The Top History 12 student is eligible for the Jack Kay

History Award, a financial award given at grad.

History 12 and Geography 12

• There is an optional provincial exam (40% of Final

Grade) for these courses. • Students need to be sure of post secondary

admission requirements and meet with their counselor before deciding whether or not to take one of the optional exams.

• Students wishing to opt out of an exam must return the completed form to their counselor; otherwise they will be required to take the exam.
