Snowman Hat (newborn size)

MATERIALS:

1 oz. Blue worsted

2 oz. White worsted

Size 8 needles (single point, circular and dp needles)

G Hook (for ties)

yarn needle

small amount of black and orange yarn for embroidery

stuffing

HAT:Cast on 60 sts w/blue.Work in K1, P1 ribbing for 3.

Change to white and work in stockinette stitch for 3.5-4.

Decrease as follows (switch to dp needles or use 2 circulars)

to form head of snowman:*K3, k2tog, repeat from * around.Knit 1 round even.*K2, k2tog, repeat from * around.Knit even in stockinette st for 2.5.

Decrease head of snowman as follows:*K1, k2tog, repeat from * around.

Knit 1 round even.*K2tog, repeat from * around.Cut yarn, weave through, pull tight; end off.

Cut a strand of white yarn and weave it through the stitches in the row above the 2nd rnd

of decreasing on main hat. Stuff head & embroider eyes/nose/mouth with black for

eyes/mouth and orange for nose. End off, weave in ends.

Blue scarf:With blue, cast on 60 sts. Knit 3 rows garter stitch, cast off; weave in ends.

Blue snowman hat:With blue, cast on 36 sts.Work in K1, P1 ribbing for 3.5Decrease as follows:*K2tog, P2tog, repeat from * across.*K1, P1, repeat from * across.*K2tog, P2tog, repeat from * across.

Cut 12 yarn, weave through sts and pull tight, sew back seam.Fold up for cuff, tack in place; sew cap to top of snowman head.

Make 2 ties:Using size G hook, ch 50, sl st back across, end off.

Tie to sides of hat, weave in ends.

Ladybug Hat for Baby

Materials:WW yarn in red (I used Caron Simply Soft, about 2 oz)

Small amount of WW yarn in black

Size 8 circular needles

DPN size 8 (or second circular needle)One marker

Crochet hook, size G

Yarn needle

Hat:With red yarn, cast on 64 sts, and being careful to not twist, join; place stitch marker tomark beginning of rounds.

Rounds 1, 3, 5: Knit

Rounds 2, 4, 6: Purl

Knit around until hat is 6.

Decrease as follows (switch to DPN or use second circular as needed):

Round 1: *Knit 6, K2tog, repeat from * around (56 sts).

Rounds 2, 4, 6, 8, 10: Knit around even.

Round 3: Knit 5, K2tog, repeat from * around (48 sts).

Round 5: Knit 4, K2tog, repeat from * around. (40 sts)

Round 7: Knit 3, K2tog, repeat from * around (32 sts).Round 9: Knit 2, K2tog, repeat from * around (24 sts).

Round 11: Knit 1, K2tog, repeat from * around (16 sts).

Round 12: K2tog around (8 sts).

Cut yarn about 10 long, weave in through remaining sts and pull tight, end off and

weave in ends.

Antenna:Using black yarn and 2 dpn, cast on 3 sts.

Knit across, pull to other end of needlePull yarn tight and knit across starting at beginning of row again (so you form it into a

tube as you go)

Keep knitting this way until tube is about 3 long, end off and weave in end.

Make a second one. Sew them to top of hat, about 2 from center, across from one

another.

Spots:Using black yarn and size G hook, ch4 and join, ch2.Work 12 dc into center of circle, join and end off, cutting yarn about 12 long. Weave

this end of yarn up and down through the 12 dc tops and pull tight into a ball, then stitch

securely onto the sides of thered hat.

Make 6 spots and evenly spread them out around the sides of the hat.

st overhanging each side of legs. Turn body and legs to wrong side andcontinue to pin base to cast on edge of body. Sew base to body. Turnbody right side out and stuff firmly (see measurements for correctwaist size).

Head: Pull up sts tightly and sew row ends together. Turn head rightside out and stuff firmly (see measurements for correct head size). andattach to body at neck opening.Arms: Pull stitches up tightly and sew side seams together. Stuffhands and 2cms(1") of arm, leaving the rest of arm empty. Fold arm sothat side seam is in the center and facing body. Sew arm to body onfirst row of shoulder decreasings through the first cast on row of arm.

Hat: Sew row ends together. Threading a needle with a length ofgreen yarn, work a row of overstitches round the peak edge. Stuff hatlightly and sew to head (See photo 1 for placement).Facial features: (See photo 1 for placement). Beak: Sew row endstogether. Fold beak in half so that the dec sts are at side of beak andthe row ends seam is now underneath and in the center of mouth. Sewcast off edge seam together. Turn work to right side and work a row ofbackstitches one row in from edge of beak around the outside but notincluding cast on edge. Stuff beak lightly and sew to head. Using blackyarn, work one long stitch either side of center of beak to form nostrils.Eyes: Leaving a gap of 3sts between eyes and using black yarn work a

daisy st in one st and work a second daisy st around the first st.
