What is WiFi?

• WiFi stands for …nothing. • According to the WiFi Alliance they just

needed something catchy to call wireless internet.

• It’s catchy because it rhymes with Hi-Fi which means High Fidelity and meant that a stereo was really good.

Jailbreaking

• What is it?– Apple is known for being user-friendly– PC is known for it’s ability to be altered by the

user– Jailbreaking gives Apple users a chance to

alter their device

Is it legal?

• In November 2012, Canada amended its Copyright Act with new provisions prohibiting tampering with digital locks, with exceptions including software interoperability.[34]

• Jailbreaking a device to run alternative software is a form of circumventing digital locks for the purpose of software interoperability.

• In summary:– Yes, it is legal in Canada right now – other countries it is not– People are trying to get it made legal/illegal all the time so before

you do it research what the current laws say

Jailbreaking – final thought

• Should I Jailbreak?– It’s really up to you...– HOWEVER – if you jailbreak you can never upgrade

your iOS again. The phone will lockdown and it will cost too much to fix.

• Is it worth it?– If you know what you’re doing, I’m sure you can have

fun with it– If it’s an old device and you’re not worried about

having to replace it then it’s relatively safe

• What is it?– It’s like SharePoint, Microsoft Word and a

Cloud(and more), all in one– There are several EverNote Apps (e.g.

Journal, Food, People)

• Needs a User Name and Password

• Make quick notes and it all saves to one place that you can access from your phone, tablet or computer

Distracted Driving

• Distracted driving is cited as a causal factor in 30 to 50 per cent of traffic collisions on Ontario, but is probably much higher due to under-reporting.– - Ontario Provincial Police, 2009

• $155 fine in Ontario for having a phone in your hand while driving, even if you’re not using it or have it on speaker phone.

Android Users – did you know?

Brain Games

• In general, nothing is proven about the ‘science’ of helping your brain age by playing these games.

• You can possibly increase your speeds while playing the games, whether that translates to life is up for debate

• Having said that: – Using your brain in a different way will never hurt it– Exercise, socialization, trying new things, learning new

things, having fun are the best ways to stay young (at heart and in your brain

• Elevate is free (so far) • Lumosity is expensive, other apps I’ve tried are

free for a trial and then you have to pay to continue using it.

Poynt & Waze

• Poynt is a search app that allows you to connect with local businesses, people and events.

• It determines your current location and then depending on what you search for it provides you with a list of attractions and/or people.

Waze is one of the world's largest community-based traffic and navigation apps. Join other drivers in your area who share real-time traffic and road info, saving everyone time and gas money on their daily commute.

• “The free iTunes U app gives you access to the world’s largest online catalog of free education content from leading institutions”

• Materials posted by many large universities world wide

• Many topics!

• Some exercises/practices – e.g. meditation, guided imagery or relaxation

Coursera

• This free android app allows you to sign up for specific courses.

• There are a variety of categories to choice from. • Watch video lectures.• The downfall you cannot

learn at your own pace. • Courses begin at various times

and are time limited.

Meditation is good for a lot of

reasons.

This app has guided

meditations or a Bell option so you can sit in silence

It also will tell you how many people are using the app

• This app can be used to keep a record of your walks and provide detailed information about your workout.

• This app records your food intake and exercise to determine if you are consuming too many or too little calories along with your daily exercise.
