A Super Smashing Game for the 3DS

By Austin Chiavaroli Contributing Writer

The newest release of Nintendo’s“Super Smash Bros.” series for theNintendo 3DS hit store shelves on Oct.3, 2014. Many Nintendo and Smash

Bros. fans have waited years for thenext installment since “Super SmashBros. Brawl,” released for the NintendoWii in 2008.

“Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo3DS” has a massive line up of playablecharacters, including some from earlier

Smash games and some brand newcharacters such as Mega Man from the“Mega Man” series, Namco’s Pac-Man,Animal Crossing’s Villager, andGreninja from the new Pokémon X andY games. Much like the previousSmash games, each character has his/her own set of specific moves and FinalSmashes. The items in this game, much like the characters, are a mixturebetween old items used in previousSmash games and new ones focusedaround the new characters like theSpiny Shell, X-Bomb, and Beetle.

The single player modes, includingClassic Mode and All-Star Mode, involve the player going through andbattling different characters in differentscenarios. This can unlock somecharacters, but doesn’t unlock them all. There are many ways to unlockcharacters and it is the player’s job tofind them.

The biggest change that makesthis Smash stand out from the rest arethe new Customization options, one ofwhich includes using a players’personal avatars, known as Miis, asfighters. With a complex training andleveling system, every Mii Fighter isdifferent with many players around theworld making their own Miis andtraining them in many different ways. There are three types of fighter styles tochoose from: Brawlers, Sword Fighters, and Gunners. Brawlers use a hand tohand fighting style against theiropponents. Sword Fighters, as the

name states, are Mii Fighters who usea sword in their fighting style. Gunnershave a blaster, much like Mega Man’sor Samus’, on their right hand thatblasts balls of energy at theiropponents.

There is also a uniquecustomization option where you cancustomize each character’s and MiiFighter’s abilities. Collected through thegames different modes, you can grabequipment such as headgear, outfitsand powers to get new customizablemoves for the created characters.

The character models for theSmash games in the past havenormally all been one size, but in“Super Smash Bros. 3DS” thecharacter models are perfectly scaledto be their specific size. The animationshave also undergone reconstruction asnew animations for each character havebeen made, giving the game a freshnew feeling.

There is also going to be another“Super Smash Bros.” released aroundthe holiday season for the Wii U called“Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.” Thisedition of the same game will havehigher resolution quality due to being ona larger screen, and it will have a bettermultiplayer experience for those whowant to play with a friend withoutconnecting to Wi-Fi. All in all, this gameis a fun and time consuming fightinggame for all ages. I give it a 4.5/5.

From the maker of the “Insidious”movies comes the prequel to “TheConjuring.” “Annabelle,” directed byJames Wan, is the new movie that issure to make viewers terrified of dolls.

The story begins the year beforethe events of “The Conjuring.” Whencouple Mia (Annabelle Wallis) and JohnGordon (Ward Horton) plan to have ababy, John buys Mia a doll she hasbeen wanting for her collection. The dollis snatched by their parent-murderingneighbor, Annabelle Higgins (KeiraDaniels), who then uses a Satanic cultritual to seal her soul in Mia’s doll. When the doll is found with after themurder, it is returned to the Gordon’s.Mia, believing the doll had something todo with the murder, throws it away andhas her baby.

When the Gordons move, they findthe thrown out doll with the others, andthe doll soon begins to causeparanormal plagues to Mia and the newbaby. The family soon finds out it is thesoul of Annabelle in the doll who wantsto take the baby’s soul to summon ademon as she originally planned to trywith her parent’s souls. Now it is up toMia and John to save their baby andthemselves from this Satanic cultist’snew form that is lurking in their newhome.

Having one of the main creepythings from the first movie was a smartmove on James Wan’s part, bringingthe backstory of the doll into play. With

the doll having a very creepy smile andbeing able to call upon borderlinedemonic paranormal entities, it makesfor great thrills and scary momentsthrough the duration of the film. The dollherself looks very demonic as, afterbeing thrown away, she comes backlooking more deranged, beaten up, andbroken.

The only issues with this movie isthat the scares could have been lessbased on jump scares and more on thepsychic fear from the presence of thedoll. Another issue is the predictabilityin the movie, with many scenesincluding cliché aspects like creakingfloorboards and kitchen appliancesbeing thrown, which are seen inmultiple paranormal horror films.Predictability can make some viewersnot get the same scares as others afterseeing closely related scenes fromother films repetitively, bringing thehorror proportion of the film lower thanothers horror films.

With all that this movie gives to theviewer, it does not break the sameformula that James Wan has beenusing in most of his past horror movies.Even the Chucky doll “Child’s Play”franchise had better impressions thanthis film leaves the viewer. This film getsa 3.5/5 rating from this writer. Eventhough it has its flaws it still is a decenthorror movie to see this October, but fora better killer possessed doll movie, check out the 1988 horror film, “Child’sPlay” featuring iconic horror slasherCharles Lee Ray, otherwise known asChucky the Killer Doll.

Last Minute Looks In Under 10 Minutes

By Rikki HusseyContributing Writer

Dressing right can be difficult, especially when summer turns to fall. It’s too warm for coats, but wearingshorts just doesn’t feel right anymore.Fortunately, there are pieces that canhelp you to transition in a comfortableyet very cool way.

The right pieces can turn your falllook into a fashion statement. Some ofthe essential fall items that you willneed to have in your closet include: adenim shirt or jacket, blazer, button-down oxford, plaid shirt, khaki pantsand boat shoes.

Wearing a denim shirt is an easyway to transition from summer to fallbecause we are in sunny Florida andthe weather hasn’t drastically droppedyet. There is no reason for a coat at thistime, but the right denim jacket acts asa great substitute. Denim shirts orjackets are perfect for layering over acotton t-shirt because they aren’t tooheavy. They also go well with denimjeans. Gap and Levi are two of the mostpopular stores to find the perfect denimshirt or jacket.

Blazers are the way to go this fall. They are both cool and sophisticated.Navy and light blue are two of the mostpopular colors for this fall. Addingdetails such as buttons, patterns orzippers to your blazer creates anurbane put-together look. Blazers arethe perfect outer-wear because theygive just enough warmth in the fall.

Button-down oxford shirts are a

great investment. This shirt is for allseasons, which makes it perfect for thesummer to fall transition. You can pairyour button-down shirt with jeans, dress pants or even khaki pants.Having this piece will play in your favorbecause it can be worn in varioussettings including school, dinner oreven a job interview (business casual).Button-down shirts look exceptionallygreat when layered under a blazer.

An easy way to integrate warmthto your outfit is by adding a plaid shirtto your apparel. This piece can bedressed down or up, depending on howyou wear it. For a more professionallook, it’s best to button the shirt all theway up. For a more casual feel, leavingthe buttons unbuttoned while pairingthem with a cotton t-shirt will give it aplayful look. Red, blue and green plaidshirts are the most sought after looksthis fall. American Eagle, Hollister andNordstrom are a few of the places thatprovide the best quality plaid shirts.

Khaki pants are a very essentialpiece to have; they can create either adressy or casual look. They look greatin the fall with earth tones, such aswine or olive green. Pairing these pantswith suede shoes is a great way tocomplete your outfit because they addclass and sophistication.

The transition from summer to fallmakes boat shoes an essential. Boatshoes are perfect for fall, especiallywhen paired with a chunky sock. Theseshoes are in demand this fall. Sperry isknown for their boat shoes, which theycarry in many colors, like black, brownand grey.

Male Fall Fashion Looks for This Season

You’ve already pressed the snoozebutton on your alarm clock seventimes, and you happen to glance at theclock in a daze, realizing you’veoverslept by 35 minutes. Normally, therest of this scene would unfold with youshoving a bagel inyour mouth, hairin a messand shirtonbackwards. We

have all been there, but there is noneed to stress. You can still look clean, fresh and alive with a few tricks in under10 minutes.

Assume that you don’t have timeto take a shower, but your hair isgreasy from the night before. Don’t fret.Sprinkle a small amount of babypowder on your roots and then takeyour brush and brush out the powder.

Baby powder absorbs theoil and drags it through

each of the hairstrands when

you brushyour hair.

Onceyou’vesucceededbrushingout all theremains ofthe babypowder, the oil willbecompletelyout ofyour hair. However, one thing

to keep inmind is to

avoid sprinklingtoo much on thescalp because it willstick. It willeventually come

out the more you brush, but we onlyhave 10 minutes right? In myexperience, I find this works better thandry shampoo. Dry shampoo onlymasks the oily hair with a powderysubstance. This is an issue becauseby mid-day your hair will appear oily.

Maybe your nails are dingy, anddull and you haven’t had time to get amani-pedi in a while. A quick fix is totake a white eyeliner pencil and colorunderneath your nails. This gives anillusion of a French manicure. Start bywashing your hands thoroughly withhand soap, then take a toothbrush ascrub the ends of your nails to get outany excess dirt that may be hidden.Once your hands and nails are clean, fill in the inside of each nail with a basicwhite eyeliner pencil. This is great if youhave a presentation or a specialoccasion that may have slipped yourmind, and you need to look polished.

There are three cosmetic productsthat are essential to looking fresh andready for the day. They each take lessthan 30 seconds to apply. Mascara isthe number one must-have in my book.Add one coat quickly before you’re onway out the door sprinting to class. Youcan easily reapply it throughout the dayfor those of you who are constantly onthe go, and can fit it practicallyanywhere with its small, compact size.Mascara lengthens your eyelashes, making your eyes look brighterand bigger.

Another must-have is something

most people don’t even consider:iridescent, white or cream eye shadowor highlighter. Swipe the shadow ontoyour pinky finger and dab it on the tearduct of both eyes. The tear duct is theinner corner of your eyes closest to thebridge of your nose. This makes a hugeimpact even though it seems sosimple, it brightens your eyes andcreates the illusion that you are alertand alive, even if you have been up allnight studying.

The last product I feel is necessaryis a tinted lip stain balm. Lip stainbalms are great because they are quickand easy to apply and last for a verylong time. You only need to reapply onyour lips after lunch or sooner if youhave a habit of licking your lips a lot. However, there is a secret identity thatthese crayon-like stains possess. Yourlip stain balm can double as a cheekstain, or blush. After using on your lips, wipe the tip with a tissue, then glide asmall amount on the apples of yourcheeks and blend with your fingertips. Now your lips and cheeks aresynchronized in creating an overalllively, fresh appearance.

Now when you’re running late, youcan face the mirror with confidence.Don’t let time be your enemy; showyour alarm clock who’s boss. Thesesimple last minute tips will help you feelless like a disheveled mess in themorning and more like the gleamingindividual that you are.

Why Can’t I Put Metal in the Microwave? Why Can’t I Put Metal in the Microwave? Why Can’t I Put Metal in the Microwave? Why Can’t I Put Metal in the Microwave? Why Can’t I Put Metal in the Microwave?

Have you ever put ametal object in theMicrowave? If you have, then you probablyexperienced poppingsounds and sparks as aresult.

One might wonder whyit only happens with metalobjects. There is ascientific reason behind it.According to The School ofEngineering at MIT,microwaves are a form ofelectromagnetic radiationthat is generated by adevice called magnetron. The job of these waves isto pulse back and forthrapidly inside an oven at acarefully calibratedfrequency. These wavespass through plastic, paperand glass and areabsorbed by the food. When the food absorbs thewaves, the molecules

oscillate back and forth, which then creates heatand cooks the food fromthe inside out.

These waves cannotpass through metal. Whenthe radiation hits themetal, the metal bouncesback the waves to thewalls of the microwave. Thewaves jump arounderratically, and canpossibly damage the insideof the microwave.

Metal is actually sogood at reflecting radiationthat the window that’s onthe door of the microwaveactually contains metallicmesh. The radiation thathits the window is bouncedback, making it impossiblefor radiation to escape themicrowave.

According toPhysics.org, metals are alot more solid than food.So instead of absorbing theelectromagnetic waves, some metals either deflect

the waves, or heat upreally quickly. As themetals become extremelyhot and in such quick time,it then

Microwave ovens use microwaves to vibrate food molecules, heating them up quickly.

Microwaves cannot pass through metal, and reflect off of it to the walls of the microwave.
