SLEEP

Page 2: Sleep

Sleeping late as a social norm - well maybe not a norm but accepted.

But is the ability to sleep late actually contributing to the growing number of sleep deprived school and college aged people? We certainly think it is.

Knowing that we have a few extra hours of sleep available to us in the morning lets us burn the candle later into the night. Coupled with technology that keeps us entertained and connected, the hours gained in the morning are soon lost and out numbered by additional awake time into the night. Even when we get the balance right, how we can control the environment around us from ruining this sleep payback?

Approaches to reducing this issue

• Eliminate

• Educate

• Facilitate3

Page 4: Sleep

Eliminate

• If we eliminate the reasons to stay up we believe that we will eliminate the need to sleep late the next morning.

• We can do this nicely or a little more radical

Educate

• If we educate teenagers about the harm of burning the candles at both ends we may be able to prevent some from suffering

• Again we can do this nicely or a little more radical

Facilitate

• Lets just concede it may be too hard to change this, so lets pass on a few ideas to allow teenagers to get those extra hours of sleep in the morning undisturbed.

• Lets help them create an environment suitable for this.
