Major Impact on Cost & EfficiencyIncreased Efficiency & SafetyFor the first time, you have precise fluid information asyou drill each zone:
The high sensitivity allows you to “feel” thechanges approaching a reservoir - and then toknow exactly when you cross the boundary.
Obtain reservoir information that cannot beobtained using other “while-drilling” technol-ogy, such as Oil Quality Indicators.
Much improved hydrocarbon indicators in coolenvironment wells (e.g. deep water) increase safetyin these hazardous environments.
Reduce More Expensive Forms of EvaluationThe objective is to significantly reduce the need fordeferred formation evaluation logging:
Information is delivered that allows savings onalternative and more expensive methods of for-mation evaluation.
Optimise downhole fluid sampling.
Replacement of some post-drilling logging, especially in development wells.
Reduction in the need for intermediate logging, especially when combining the fluid facies infor-mation with LWD data.
A Long-awaited Innovationfor Drilling Supervisors, Reservoir Engineers and Geochemists
Quality InformationInformation has long been missing from the datasets concerning the reservoir fluid - especially dur-ing actual drilling. A revolutionary tool is now avail-able to fill this gap in the techniques used to estimatethe target structures lying far beneath the surface.
The Flair Service is this unique tool - which for thefirst time enables the elaboration of a real-time for-mation fluid facies log while drilling.
Intelligent Use of All Available DataIf this new suite of fluid facies data is combined withother data sets such as LWD and E-log data, a wholenew insight is thrown into understanding the reservoirand the formation fluid composition.
Gas Signatures & High Precision IndicatorsThe precision of the technology permits clear gassignatures to be identified, with which new powerfulsoftware can make multi-well comparisons, andallows component tracking to locate communicat-ing layers.

Leading-Edge Technologyand Best-in-Industry Performance
A New Tool for Fast-Track AnalysisThe arrival of the Flair Service is something similar toobtaining a new logging tool - but faster and lesscostly. This relies on advanced technology developedby Geoservices, combined with a service that enablesfull exploitation of the new data:
Real-time, while-drilling detection and charac-terisation (geology, oil, gas and water) of allreservoir layers.
Innovative surface techology and software.
Valuable Information - As You DrillA new suite of formation evaluation data is availablewhich will make a significant contribution to under-standing the reservoir and assist drilling:
Fluid composition identification.
Recognition of fluid compartmentalization.
Estimation of reservoir potential while drilling,GOR and CGR values.
Geosteering.
Basin and reservoir modelling.
Dedicated Flair EngineersThe Flair Service comprises the gas chain and inter-pretation tools but most importantly a fluids loggingspecialist - the Flair Engineer.
He has an in-depth knowledge of gas and reservoirfluid behaviour and experience in gas analysis. He hasfollowed intensive training for reservoir evaluation usinggas and also geochemical and reservoir concepts.
The Flair Engineer will liaise with the reservoir teambefore, during and after drilling:
Assists in PRE-DRILL studies.
Arrives on site specifically to log the intervalof interest and conduct REAL-TIME analysis andinterpretation.
Conducts POST-WELL interpretation anddelivers an end-of-well Formation FluidAnalysis Report.
Expert KnowledgeA preliminary assessment study of the geological andfluids environment will allow the engineer to “tune”the tracked mass according to the main objectives ofthe programme.
Some of the on-site functions of the Flair Engineer are:
Strict quality control of gas and related data.Monitoring real time hydrocarbon indications.Analysing hydrocarbon & other fluid data.Normalisation of gas data with relation to ROP,drilling and fluid parameters.Correction of gas values by elimination of recy-cled components.Cross well correlation for trend analysis.
The Flair Service - a Revolutionary Concept
Proven QualityThe Flair Service is reinforced by the strict qualityprocedures in place under our ISO 9001 QualityCertification, complemented by Geoservices’ self-imposed standards that ensure best-in-industry per-formance.

The Flair System - State-of-the-Art Technology
Dedicated Technology Designed by a SpecialistGeoservices’ experience of over 40 years in analysisof hydrocarbons, together with the conception andmanufacture of innovative gas equipment, has per-mitted an in-depth rethink of principles and meth-ods. This has led to the most extensive innovationyet devised and the development of an instrument ofunequalled performance and precision.
A High-Performance Gas ChainEach element of the gas chain has been redesigned toeliminate undesired effects and guarantee precision. It is composed of the fluid extractor, the sample trans-portation line and the gas analyser.
Proprietary Software - INFACTSpecially developed software tools for assisting inter-pretation, correlation and tracing that makes integrationwith external data sources easy and efficient:
Accepts data from multiple sources.
Easy and detailed cross plot analysis that verifiesthe suitability of specific ratios and supplies cleargas signatures (benzene, H2S, CO2, etc.).
Association of cross plots with depth curves.
Automatic formation fluid segmentation (underdevelopment).
Synchronisation of the two line samples, Gas Inand Gas Out, is possible.
A New Generation Fluid Extractor - FLEXIncreased extraction efficiency by sampling with aprobe directly at the bell nipple with an incorpo-rated mud level detector and alarm for safety.
Extraction under non-atmospheric and constanthigh temperature conditions monitored by inter-nal sensors.
Extractor response is improved by increasingextraction energy and optimising the gas/mud vol-ume ratio.
Improved Line Technology - Sample Transport
Sources of contamination of the gas sample duringtransport have been eliminated.
Filtering.
Line under controlled specific atmosphere.
Proprietary line material that is inert to all gases.
A “Universal” Analyser for all gases: GCMS
The GCMS is a mobile Gas Chromatograph / Mass Spectrometer which far surpasses FID technology.
Increased measurement range of C1-C8.
High sensitivity for any component and an extraor-dinary 0.1 ppm in chromatographic mode.
Short analysis cycles of 60 or 90 seconds andhigh speed analysis even for heavy components.
Tracing of specific components.

THE RESULTHE RESULTSTS
How The Information Can Be Used
Reservoir CharacterisationThe generation of gas signaturespermits reservoir identification dur-ing drilling.
Oil Leg IdentificationThe much improved resolution forC1-nC5, with the addition of the heavier hydrocarbons C6-C8, isa much more dependable indicator of gas/oil and oil/water contacts.
Proximity to Pay (PTP)The presence of water soluble species of which the hydrocarboncomponents can be a good indicator of up-dip potential.
Proximity to WaterEvaluation of BT concentration in hydrocarbon section can indi-cate proximity to water.
Geo-steeringA changed gas signature willimply moving away from thereservoir zone.
Reservoir Oil QualityQuick-look information such as GOR values can be obtained whenthe data is combined with other contextual information.
Seal CharacterisationRatio evolution in the cap rock gives information on the efficiencyof the seal.
Identification of Reservoir Fluid Compartmentalization and ConnectivityDistinct gas signatures on either side of a seal suggests the pres-ence of a permeability barrier.
Efficiency Deep OffshoreExtraction-analysis efficiency is even more visibleand valuable in cold drilling fluid environments suchas those found in deep water.
