Whether she is catering for celebri-ties such as mega producer Timba-land, actor John Corbett, Gym ClassHeroes Travie McCoy and DJ Irie or

hosting viewing parties of her own shot to stardomon FOX’s Hell’s Kitchen, Robyn Almodovar is outto ensure there is a party in the mouth every time.

With a half Puerto Rican, half Italian background,Almodovar’s childhood was filled with culture, vi-brancy and a deeply ingrained passion for foodthat began in Staten Island, New York. By agethree, Almodovar was kneading and moldingmeatballs alongside her grandmother for familymeals. At age16, she landed her first restaurant jobat Gustaro’s Ale House in Atlanta, Georgia.

Since then, Almodovar’s path to the kitchen hasmade many twists and turns. The beauty schooldrop-out pursued nursing and cosmetology be-fore officially coasting into cuisine professionally

thanks to the coaxing of a late night infomercial.

In 2005, she graduated from the Le Cordon BleuCollege of Culinary Arts in Atlanta and relocatedto Fort Lauderdale, Florida to begin her appren-ticeship as banquet cook at The Hyatt RegencyPier 66, a Four Diamond Hotel.

Throughout her career, Almodovar has methodi-cally mastered every position in the kitchen. Herculinary experience ranges from working as a linecook at Big Bear’s Brewing Company in CoralSprings, Florida to executive chef at Jeff ’s BeachHouse in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

In 2008 Almodovar took to the high seas andmanaged the kitchen of a 172’ yacht, Lady Win-dridge. Realizing that she missed the “heat” in the kitchen,Almodovar parted ways with the yacht charter in2009 so that she could pursue new endeavors. She

worked at several respectable South Florida restau-rants including The Forge and Danny Devito's De-vito South Beach before obtaining an ExecutiveSous Chef position at the Royal Palm Hotel.

In 2011, with enough courage and tenacity tostrike out on her own, Almodovar purchased a 24’food truck and founded “Palate Party”, a fresh, mo-bile food café that utilizes locally sourced ingredi-ents. Palate Party was the first female-owned,non-dessert food truck in South Florida and it’sthe only truck with a custom stage built on top forlive entertainment, dancing and musical perform-ances.

Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) rup-tures remain one of the most devastatinginjuries to the young competitive athlete.The ACL is the major supporting ligamentwithin the knee joint providing stability tothe knee during running, cutting and twist-ing sports. Though a traumatic collisionwith another athlete can cause a rupture tothe ACL, a sudden alteration in speedand/or change in direction can also predis-pose an athlete to this injury.

The athlete will often describe a loud pop-ping sensation within the knee joint and ex-perience severe pain, swelling andweakness combined with an inability toambulate. Diagnosis is usually made by ob-taining a proper history of injury and byperforming a thorough clinical examina-tion of the involved knee. X-rays and MRIsare extremely beneficial during this evalu-ation and will often help rule-out concomi-tant injuries to the adjacent ligaments,menisci and/or cartilage.

The goal of treatment is to return the ath-lete back to his or her prior level of activity,including competitive sports. Rarely, One

may consider conservative/non-operativetreatment for those patients that are ex-tremely sedentary and inactive in athletics.In this incidence, treatment may include re-habilitation, bracing and restriction to cer-tain activities.

Over the last several years, I have seen nu-merous patients with surgical failures fromprior ACL reconstructions that have beenreferred to my office for further consulta-tion and revision surgery. Having per-formed over 1,700 Anterior CruciateLigament reconstructions and over 200 re-vision surgical procedures, I remain con-vinced that this procedure is extremelytechnical and should be treated with state-of-the-art surgical technique and attentionto detail. Though re-injury may be a com-mon cause of failure subsequent to ACL re-construction, technique related failures are

commonly seen and can often occur fromimproper graft selection, tunnel place-ment, graft tensioning, or methods of fix-ation. Timing of surgery and properpostoperative instructions, including re-turn to athletics, also play a significant rolein prevention of re-injury. In concordancewith the literature barring any anatomicalor growth related considerations, I preferto utilize bone-patella tendon-bone auto-graft for the young, high-demand athlete.

Treatment of an Anterior Cruciate Liga-ment rupture continues to be a challeng-ing problem for the high school, collegiateand community athletes. It is imperativethat young individuals (and parents) un-derstand the importance of pursuing treat-ment by an experienced surgeon,preferably with a subspecialty interest inknee ligament reconstruction. Failure todo so may predispose an athlete to addi-tional surgery and prevent return to sportsin a timely manner.

• 1 jar prepared lemon curd or 1can oflemon pie filling

• 1 large container of Cool Whip or 2 cups freshly whipped heavy cream • 1/2 prepared angelfood cake

Optional toppings: crushed lemon-fla-vored hard candies, chopped lemon cook-ies or the fresh zest of one ripe lemon.

DIRECTIONS

1. Cut your pound cake into 1 inch cubes. Place a few of the cake cubesinto the bottom of the glass, Add a layer of whipped cream or Cool Whip.

2. Add a layer of lemon curd or lemon pie filling Add more cake cubesand repeat layers to the top of a small glass. Add a dollop of whippedcream/Cool Whip.

3.Sprinkle the top with lemon candies, cookies or lemon zest. Refrigerateand serve. If you like Limoncello, you can add a few drops over your cakecubes and drizzle a teaspoonful over the finally topping.

HOW DID YOU MEET? Lauren and James met about 5-6 years ago, they shared mutual friends. Their friends visited the samesocial locations so Lauren and James soon became aquaintances. In December 2012, they made plans to have dinner, with plentymore dinner dates to follow. On Christmas morning, Lauren was invited on an unforgettable cruise in James’s classic car. Whatwas always regarded as a friendship, then began developing into something more.

THEIR ENGAGEMENT STORY! It was December 3rd 2012. James and Lauren spent the morning completing

chores and purchased their first Christmas tree. Lauren left for a quick trip to the grocery store and when she returned

home, James asked her to hang the lights on the tree. Lauren was surprised and thought the request was odd since James

is a carpenter and should know how to do these things. As she started wrapping the lights around the tree, it wasn’t long

before she spotted her sparkling engagement ring hanging on a single silver hook. Instantly Laurens hands begin to shake

a tears fall from her eyes. She turned around and there was James on his knee, crying. James took Lauren’s hand and asked

“will you be my wife?” Lauren’s answer…… “Yes!”

HOW DID YOU MEET? The couple met in family law class in law school at the University of Florida in the fall of 2007. Theystarted as mere classmates/acquaintances for about a year until Kristine and her friends crossed paths with Mike and his friend outand about in Gainesville one evening. With a white lie boosting Mike's confidence, he managed to charm Kristine's number andplan a rendezvous at a future group outing. That group outing led to a first date at the Dragonfly (which is still the couple's favoriterestaurant to this day). The rest, as they say, is history.

ENGAGEMENT STORY: Mike and Kristine love to travel. Kristine had never been to Las Vegas, so they planned a trip to the hotnew Vegas resort - The Aria. While there were plenty of public opportunities for a proposal, Mike knew Kristin would not like toshare such a moment with a large crowd. So, armed with a shiny engagement ring, Mike chose there room with a beautiful Vegasview as the spot for the private big question. Kristin had no idea the proposal was coming and was completely surprised. After someinitial shock and tears, Kristin said "Yes” and the couple shared a bottle of champagne and one of the most fun times of their lives.

WHAT MADE YOUR WEDDING UNIQUE? Mike and Kristine wanted a smaller wedding, only including those closest to them.Mike often described it as, if you were invited, you would've been in the wedding party. We planned a Saturday brunch wedding,with appetizers and cocktails before the ceremony, with both bride and groom mingling with guests. The ceremony was brief,but meaningful, with guest standing, gathered around the couple. After the I do's brunch was served. A guest commented thatthe intimate setting of the wedding made him feel like he was really a part of the ceremony. As it ended up, things went perfectly,with beautiful weather, delicious food, wonderful music and amazing photos to remember the day!

WHERE WAS THE HONEYMOON? Leaving a week after their wedding day, Kristine and Mike enjoyed there honeymoon inOahu for an amazing 10 day adventure, visiting both Waikiki and the North Shore.
