Or how you would cope if someone collapsed? This course will give you the knowledge and skills you need to help someone in an emergency, and includes chest compressions. Lunch will be provided. Finding funding Thursday 16 August and 23 August 1.30pm - 4.30pm Stockport Homes, 1 St. Peter's Square These two sessions will provide you with the advice and guidance you need if you are looking for funding for a project in your community. Learn about what funding providers are looking for in a winning grant bid and how to avoid common mistakes. How to chair meetings and write minutes Tuesday 21 August 2.00pm - 4.00pm Stockport Homes, 1 St. Peter's Square Getting things done in your community is the main aim of most community groups, but getting to that point can seem full of obstacles. Learn how to harness the experience and enthusiasm of your community group by finding out how to chair meetings and write minutes effectively. Lunch will be provided. Trace your family history Wednesdays 29 August - 26 September 2.00pm - 4.00pm Stockport Homes, 1 St. Peter's Square (last week at Stockport Central Library) Five week course. Ever wondered about your family history or wanted to discover your roots? This course is designed to give you all the skills you need. You will be shown how to use library archives and the internet to make your family history come alive. Level 1 Pre-Apprenticeship in Sports and Active Leisure Monday 3 September - Friday 9 November (every day) 9.30am - 3.30pm Greater Manchester Football Academy, Manor Farm, Ridgeway Road, Timperley Ten week full time course. If you are considering a career in the sports industry but are unsure of which pathway to take, then this is the perfect starting point for you. You will learn about the safety aspects you need to consider when planning and delivering coaching sessions and why this is an integral part of being a successful coach, while playing lots of football matches. Customers must be between 16 and 18 years old and have few or no GCSEs. Lunch will be provided. How to set up a home based childminding service Fridays 7 September - 9 November 1.30pm - 4.00pm Stockport Homes, 1 St. Peter's Square Ten week course. Have you ever considered becoming a paid childminder? This course is your first step. As well as learning relevant aspects of childcare, this course will help you develop the policies, procedures and basic business skills you need to set up a home based childcare service. Successfully completing this course will provide you with a qualification that enables you to seek Ofsted approval and become self-employed. Saving money and energy at home Thursday 20 September 10.00am - 1.00pm Stockport Homes, 1 St. Peter's Square Want to know how to be more environmentally friendly? Need to save some money on the household bills over the winter months? Come along and get hints and tips on how to save money and get the most out of your energy at home as well as collecting lots of useful freebies. Lunch will be provided. Personal safety for women Thursday 4 October - Friday 5 October 1.00pm - 5.00pm Stockport Homes, 1 St. Peter's Square Two day course. Take part in these interactive sessions and learn how to increase your safety awareness at home and when out and about. These sessions will also offer basic physical techniques that will help you protect yourself. The course is open to all women of any ability. Priority given to 16 - 25 year olds. Sleeptalk for children Tuesday 16 October 1.30pm - 3.00pm Stockport Homes, 1 St. Peter's Square Through a discussion group and a workbook of materials you will find out how to create confidence and self-esteem in your child. Techniques will help you deal with behaviours such as anxiety, bedwetting, unsettled sleep and changes within the family home. A follow-on session is also available for further support. One parent per household. Influencing and negotiation (how to get your point across) Tuesday 23 October 6.00pm - 8.00pm Stockport Homes, 1 St. Peter's Square Do you struggle with getting people to understand what you mean, or always feel like someone has got the wrong end of the stick? This course will teach you how to get across what you mean in an objective and positive way, and show you how to diffuse difficult situations you may face with neighbours, friends or members of your local community groups. A buffet will be provided. Growing in confidence Tuesday 13 November 2.00pm - 4.00pm Stockport Homes, 1 St. Peter's Square Having confidence is necessary to do a wide range of every day tasks. If you feel that you could improve on your confidence, come along to this one-off session designed to help you explore your self-esteem and your journey to confidence. At Stockport Homes we are always doing our best to make sure that we are providing you with courses that match your needs and interests. Below are some of the ways your comments have helped shape our courses.

Trafford Hall is the National Communities Resource Centre based in Chester and provides a wide variety of training which you are welcome to attend.

The Customer Involvement Team can arrange and pay for places that would support your training or interests of your local group

If you are interested in doing a variety of courses that contribute towards a wider qualification, let us know. We can put you in touch with Stockport Continuing Education who are running the Aspire Programme. Through Aspire you can take a variety of courses or ‘units’ in a wide variety of topics, such as Web Design, Customer Service,

Do you want to get recognition for the time you give to your community?

Stockport Homes is offering a qualification in Community Action, for those who already give up their time and are actively involved in making their community a better place to live.

How does it work?You will be paired up with a member of staff who will support you to create a portfolio of evidence of the ways you get involved and what you have learnt from this. This portfolio is then submitted to the Chartered Institute of Housing and successful customers will be awarded a nationally recognised qualification equivalent to a GCSE or A-Level.

FREE coursesFor customers of Stockport Homes

UK Housing Award Winners 2011

You wanted a childcare or childminding course to be provided.

I can now use emails, Skype my family abroad and use my computer at home.

You wanted more information from the Finding Funding course.

We are now offering a new, accredited, ten week course which will provide wannabe childminders with their first step to becoming self-employed.

The course is now held on two separate days, so more information can be provided for each of you so the advice matches your specific interests and needs.

Customers can now enrol on any computer course they like, rather than needing to wait months for the next course to match their needs.

When you request a course, you will need to make sure that you are happy to abide by the Customer Training Charter. The Charter outlines what you can expect from us when booking a course, and what your responsibilities are. We will send you the details when you request a space on a course.

What your responsibilities are:

Please let us know at least 48 hours before the course starts if you are unable to attend or as soon as possible if you are unwell on the day.

Please make every reasonable effort to attend every session of the course.

What you can expect from us:

If you have requested a course, we will call you beforehand to see if you are still interested in attending. Once we have made contact with you, your course space will be confirmed.

If you need help organising how you will get to the course venue, we will contact you. We can provide you with bus route maps, bus timetables, organise parking spaces, reimburse your bus fare or fuel costs and in exceptional circumstances organise you a taxi.

If you are on the waiting list and a space becomes available, we will call you as soon as possible to see if you can attend.

Any customer who fails to attend a course without letting us know beforehand may be prevented from attending future courses.
