SUPPLIES & TOOLS: • 3 yds floral quilting fabric • 3/4 yd coordinating fabric • 1/2 yd fabric for trellis • 3/4 yd fabric for sashing and post • 3/4 yd fabric for flowers • Fons & Porter™ Omnigrid 60-degree Diamond Ruler, optional • 3 yds fabric for backing • 54"x62" rectangle of batting • 1/2 yd fabric for binding • One sheet template plastic • Basic sewing/quilting supplies DIRECTIONS: WOF = width of fabric 1/4" seam allowance used throughout, unless noted 1. Enlarge pattern pieces as necessary. Make plastic templates of each of the pieces. 2. From main floral fabric, cut six 6½" WOF strips. Using the diamond template or the Omnigrid 60-degree ruler, cut twenty-two diamonds. Cut three 7½" WOF strips. From these strips, cut eight setting triangles. Cut five 4-ft WOF strips. Cut 13 half-diamonds. Cut 6 half-triangles for corners. 3. From coordinating fabric, cut two 6½" WOF strips. Cut ten diamonds. 4. From trellis fabric, cut nine 1½" WOF strips. With each strip open and right side up, use template or diamond ruler to cut 44 short trellis strips. Note: Cut each strip to match the angle of one edge of the diamonds. 5. From sashing fabric, cut nine 1½" WOF strips. Cut two 4½" WOF strips for post. 6. Using photo as reference, lay out diamonds, triangles, half-diamonds and trellis strips. 7. Stitch short trellis to each half-diamond, diamond, half-triangle or triangle as needed. Press seam allowance toward trellis piece. Stitch floral/trellis pieces together to make rows. Note: The quilt is actually two large floral/trellis units connected with the post piece. 8. Stitch short ends of sashing strips. Measure each row of floral/trellis rows, being sure to measure the longer row of pieces. Cut sashing strip to that measurement and stitch to rows. Complete across both floral/trellis units. 9. Measure length of both floral/trellis pieces and cut post piece to that measurement, piecing as needed. Stitch the floral/trellis units on both long sides of the post piece. 10. Using preferred applique method, cut and stitch five flowers to quilt top. 11. Piece backing as needed to make a 54"x62" rectangle. 12. Layer appliqued quilt top, batting and backing. Quilt as desired. 13. From binding fabric, cut six 2½" WOF strips. Stitch short ends together. With wrong sides together, press the length of the binding strip. Stitch to quilt top with raw edges even. Turn to back of quilt and whipstitch. free floral trellis quilt 3 skill level more projects, tips & techniques at Joann.com ®
