What did we find out from Ms Pasilic? 1. How long have you been Australia? Nearly 15 years2. Did you or your family come to Australia as refugees? Yes, as a result of

1992 war in Bosnia. Came with parents and brother. 3. How did you come to Australia from your home country? Bosnia via Austria

(4.5 years) where it was not possible to get citizenship, education was expensive, Aunt had come to Australia a year before.

4. How did you feel when you first arrived in Australia? Describe what it was like. Scared because it was far away. Confusing because it was different.

5. What did you find difficult when you arrived? The language and accent, educational system, cultural differences

6. What information were you given when you arrived? ESL support7. What things were hard to find out? Understanding education options and

choices, where to get help8. What other things did you need or want to know? Access class for IEC

students, extended ESL support9. How did you find the answers to these? 10. How could the experience have been better for you? More time to settle into

education system11. What advice would you give to other new migrants and refugees? Ask for

help, talk to people, work hard12. How can we help them settle? Better coordination of services and people
