Berchida is surely the most wonderful beach of the zone. Shallow, crystal water, white sand: Berchida is a real natural treasure. Behind it you can admire the real natural Sardinian panorama. In this zone you can go horseback riding.

The Confetti beachThe confetti beach is in front of a camping ground surrounded by a pine-wood. It is characterised by pebbles which cover the sand. It’s possible to moor small sea-craft but the camping ground doesn’t supply surveillance.

La Caletta The beach of La Caletta  is very near  the built-up area. It is very big and  it’s a popular beach for sunbathers

Capo Comino This beach is called also Le Dune for its spectacular sandy dunes. You can go by biking and it is characterised by the Capo Comino lighthouse from which you  can admire a wonderful panorama of all the beaches. Behind the beach there is a salt lake which houses magnificent flamingos.

Discovering Discovering SiniscolaSiniscola

Come and see Come and see my townmy townAt the foot of the Mount Albo, a steep calcareous ridge, along the homonym river, Siniscola faces towards the beaches and the cliffs of the east Sardinian coast. The territory offers a series of agrarian and natural landscapes of surprising variety from the limestone dolomites mountains of Mount Albo to the cultivation (groves, vineyards, pastures) of the plain furrowed by water courses that flow into the ample coastal lagoons that extend from the hamlet of La Caletta to the stupendous beach of Berchida. The zone is very rich in woods and springs and has a territory of great naturalistic interest because of the presence of plants and rare animals among which the Bonelli royal eagle, the mouflon, the boar and the owl. The prevalent activities consist in sheep and cattle rearing, workmanship of the dairy products, extractive and artisan activities, harbour and fishing. In the territory numerous testimonies of the ancient presence of man are present.

In the countryside of Siniscola there are about 26 Nuraghi, some giants graves and only one Domus de Janas of which only ruins remain.

higher than today and probably also this Nuraghe, as well as others, was a trilobed Nuraghe formed of a central tower and two added towers like the Nuraghe Gorropis. Crossing the corridor which presents a unique floor covering of dolmen tradition (as in the dolmens with plat band stone slabs), you can enter the main tower. A stairway, on the left, with most of the steps missing, leads to the upper floor.

The tower is built of large polygonal blocks of white limestone lightly rough-hewn, while the dimension of the blocks in the upper rows decreases. On the left side there is a doorway which has the same thickness as the wall. The opening is covered by a thin slab of granite which serves as architrave with a wide opening to support the weight of the structure rising above it. This is the way it appeared in origin. But now one part is well conserved whereas the part facing the road has been subjected to a fall to ruins. Inside this you can find some rooms one of which is formed of projecting walls surrounded by a helicoidal stairway, and this can be seen in the summit of the Nuraghe, through a small cleft caused by the falling of the structure. The long past archaeological dig of 1960 brought to light numerous containers in  mixing ceramic especially pans with handles many of which were found piled up near the fireplace of the main tower. Some bowls, cone shaped, pots, 4 handled jars and also a few bronze figurines of warriors with arches of relevant importance come from the Nuraghe

Nuraghe GorropisOn the state road La Caletta-Siniscola in locality "Su Mattone" you can find the Nuraghe Gorropis, the twin of Nuraghe Pizzinnu, in Posada. The name of the Nuraghe means vortex, whirpool or puddle and it is probably of pre-romanic origin. Only a few rows of calcareous blocks remain to outline this Nuraghe. Nuraghe Gorropis isn't a monotower but presents a central tower and two added towers of which only some stones emerge. On the top of the Nuraghe there are fallen ruins which probably were over the central room. This inner room is surrounded by a dividing wall created by a

staircase and a corridor. It is thought that in this area there was a nuraghic village and this can be deduced from some fragments of nuraghic pottery and by a whole cup found near the Nuraghe. Both white limestone, very common to this area and schist, a very difficult stone to cut, were used in the construction of the Nuraghe

Su Itichinzu Tomb

Su Itichinzu can be found in locality Zorrosca near Capo Comino. It can be reached following the road that leads from Capo Comino to Irgoli and the name could mean vineyard. It’s on a hill that is lower compared to the surrounding hills, in a large spot of lentisk. The structure was built in rose granite and only half of it was excavated in 1994. Su Itichinzu represents a particular type of giants’ grave; it does not present rocks in the shapes called Stele and Exedra but one front wall constructed perfectly in rectangular masonry with an architaved entrance called Hatch, that opens in to a corridor also built in stone masonry. This corridor is divided in two parts: a cell and an antecell. The grave of modest dimensions therefore seems to date back to the final phase of the nuraghic civilization and therefore to a late moment of the beginning of the first millennium after Christ. This date is confirmed by the finding of an elaborate vase with a ringed foot found in front of the entrance of the grave; a funerary urn, a small bowl with a ceramic lid containing some ashes.

Domus Cuccure e Janas Cuccuru e janas, translated the summit of the fairies is a domus de janas situated in the

zone of San Narciso on the state highway Siniscola - La Caletta. This is the only domus de janas in the territory of Siniscola. It was hollowed out in a schist stone and destroyed by dynamite during

the excavation to open an entry facing east. Most domus

de janas face east or south- east towards the rising sun which probably was the symbol of new life. The workers had to dig against the schist veins and this is the reason why you can notice some scratches on the walls and scholars attribute these signs to the metal fingernails of the fairies. Going into the stone the diggers continued south, hollowing out the central cave, working against the vein of the stone and probably because of this the room is small and shallow. The cave ends with a big room which again follows the natural vein of the stone. The entry called Portello has a rectangular or trapezoidal shape and presents the bovine protomi (the animal shaped rocks called “bovine protomi”). Inside the domus de janas there are a lot of graffiti, seen as negative signs and there is also an antecell where the people put offerings. The grave, already known and opened since the last century, hasn’t furnished archeological materials but it confirms the fact that the fertile plain between Siniscola and the sea was already populated during the neolithic period.

Nuraghe Pizzinnu The Nuraghe Pizzinnu can be found in a valley about 2 km south of Siniscola and it is the twin of the Nuraghe Gorropis. It’s situated on a rocky outcrop near the old highway Orientale Sarda. Two colossal architraves in calcareous rock are preserved in the entrance  with numerous date mussel holes ( marine organisms which drilled holes in the rock in the Mesozoic Era). When it was constructed it was just a little
