SKEYNDOR is a Spanish trademark that is well known throughout the world, and through its experience it has become a specialist in anti-age treatments. Its philosophy is to obtain optimum results through manual application or in combination with the apparatus developed by the brand name itself.

Through its more than 20 product lines focused on every kind of professional aesthetics treatment, SKEYNDOR is one of the pioneering R+D+I firms in the current market.

SKEYNDOR was created in the 60s, when Publio Puente, Doctor in Chemical Sciences and Juan Morcillo, Industrial Engineer, both lecturers at the High School of Industrial Engineering in Terrassa, founded a hair removal wax business in their home town. Imme-diately the first network of beauty therapists is established as the main clients of the new company. Morcillo, born in Paris, knew the importance of the cosmetic industry and brought the firm a business and managerial vision, while Puente was in charge of the research laboratory and product development.

In the 70s, SKEYNDOR extended its services all over Spain, with a wide range of products and introduced new more attractive and practical professional packaging. The culmination of the firm’s national expansion stage was the opening of a branch office in Madrid in 1980. This expansion was completed with the opening of Training Centres for professionals in Barcelona and Madrid, in the middle of the 90s.

During the years 1987 and 1988 SKEYNDOR launched the lipo-somes on the professional market; these were the first formula of encapsulating active ingredients that minimised the risk of allergies or irritations, as it only releases the active ingredient when it is inside the dermis. It soon became a success and to-day this technology has evolved into nanotechnology, one of the scientific basis of current SKEYNDOR research.

At the end of the 80s, the firm began its international expansion. Portugal was the first foreign country where SKEYNDOR marke-ted its products in 1989. From then, the firm strengthened its ex-porting capacity and in 1992 Italy joined its international network. During the first few years SKEYNDOR entered foreign markets by attending international cosmetics trade fairs.

In 1996 the SKEYNDOR Export Department was created. At this time the firm began its relationship with Asia, and successfully laid the foundations for the future in these emerging markets, where the skin care culture is deeply rooted. At present, Asia is still one of SKEYNDOR’s main markets, covering 11 countries and with a 2 million Euro turnover. In Asia the SKEYNDOR products are known as top professional cosmetics.

For SKEYNDOR, 2002 was the year it consolidated its internatio-nal expansion. The agreement with the Japanese multinational Kanebo to research, develop and produce the Body Slindy body range, led to a joint venture that lasted until 2006. This agreement promoted the brand image abroad, and it was awarded the Prize of Excellence in Exportation, given by the Chamber of Commerce.

In 2004 SKEYNDOR created the Hydra Filler range, and became a pioneer in developing volumising micro-capsules for filling-in wrinkles. In the same year, the prestigious Herald Tribune in Syd-ney awarded a prize to the Sublime Eye Contour product, in the Platinum range.

Two years later, in 2006 SKEYNDOR launched Aquatherm, the fruit of its exclusive agreement with the Termas de Salies-de-Béarn (French Pyrenees) to develop the first cosmetic range con-taining the thermal water with the richest magnesium content in the world.

2007 was the year that the Vitamin C based treatment was laun-ched, for the first time free of parabens and including NIKKOL-VITC, a new generation of high cell absorption vitamin C, up to 7 times more effective than pure vitamin C.

In 2008 the firm started its genetic cosmetics era with Eternal, a range containing plant origin stem cell nano-liposomes as the active ingredient, developed by SKEYNDOR’s in-house R+D department. That same year, this product was awarded the Euro-pean Academy of Cosmetics prize for the most innovative active ingredient.

The year 2010 saw the arrival of the revolutionary Corrective range. After two years research and more than 25 tested active ingredients, SKEYNDOR launched this new anti-age treatment as a real alternative to surgery, as its active ingredients soften ex-pression lines and fill in wrinkles, producing a visible effect after just a few minutes.

From 2006 to 2011 SKEYNDOR consolidated its international position to the extent of reaching an export turnover figure over 35% of its overall sales. At present, the brand sells in more than 40 countries, through a network of 35 international distributors, and it is translated into 15 languages. Its products are present in 15,000 beauty centres throughout the world, and 4,800 of these are in Spain. Its product range has succeeded in adapting to di-fferent climates and in responding to the skin types of different racial backgrounds.

At present, company management is in the hands of the founding partners: the Morcillo – Mur family, and the Puente – Garrido fa-mily. In addition to the family members, the various professionals have joined the Board of Administration.

In 2010, the company aimed to increase exports by 15% and its plans included opening a new office in Hong Kong, a leading beauty salon that will operate as an exclusive training centre, like the ones that already exist in Madrid and Barcelona.

SKEYNDOR has its central office in Terrassa (Barcelona), from where it manages the company’s commercial and financial activi-ty. Its production and logistics areas cover 6,700 m2.

SKEYNDOR has a staff of 90 people, including its own team of qualified technicians and an R+D+I department, into which the company channels 4.5% of its annual turnover. From here, cons-tant studies are conducted in co-operation with more than 50 international IT (Innovation and Technology) companies, and agre-ements are made with 3 cosmetic efficiency and tolerance testing centres: Evic Internacional, Biolab and Micro-Bios. Since 2000, SKEYNDOR has been working with various departments of the High Council of Scientific Research (CSIC) for applying new active ingredients under the concept of “Scientific Skincare”.

Classifying the skin by its appearance and cutaneous morphology is essential to selecting the most suitable cosmetic treatment in each case. SKEYNDOR offers cosmetic professionals various ran-ges that respond to four basic objectives:

1. NORMALIZATION

CLEAR BALANCE is a professional line of products developed specifically to normalise the three main causes of skin impurities: hyperseborrhea, hyperkeratosis and proneness to infection.

CLEAR BALANCE includes two different product ranges for use at home and in beauty institutions, for correctly treating these two basic types of acne lesions: normalising treatment product, which prevent the proliferation of elemental acne lesions (non-inflammatory), and fast-acting products for occasional use to accelerate the evolution of inflammatory lesions.

The CLEAR BALANCE products have been developed with non-comedogenic excipients which are free from oils and fats and adapt to the specific needs of this type of skin, without causing oiliness or shininess.

CLEAR BALANCE

ESSENTIAL LINEBasic range that provides cleaning, hydration and toning. It takes care of skins which, normally, have small abnormalities which must be treated as soon as they appear.

Active ingredients: Chamomile, for cleansing and softening; cu-cumber for purifying; witch hazel extract for toning; plant starch and joba for renovating; wheat germ and royal jelly for nouris-hing; silk proteins for regenerating; irradiated clay for hydrating; marine collagen and marine elastin for strengthening.

AQUATHERMA solution for sensitive skins, aimed at standardising and reba-lancing epidermal metabolism, re-establishing the function that protects against harmful environmental effects and prevent red-ness, oedemas or scaling.

Active ingredients: Thermal water from Salies-de-Béarn, with more than 25 trace elements in the form of ions (sodium, potas-sium, calcium, magnesium, magnesiumnc, copper, and others), promotes the quick standardisation of the skin’s barrier function and reduces skin reactions; pre-biotic oligosaccharides, natural substances from sugars, which protect against the invasion of harmful micro-organisms stimulate the cutaneous flora and rebalance the pH; ceramides, they correctly orientate the skin’s natural lipid protection layers; pumpkin extract and soya pro-

Derma Peel is a cosmetic treatment for beauty institutes which require an exfoliation treatment that is comparable to those offe-red by medical-aesthetic clinics. Its components are formulated at the maximum concentration authorised by the Spanish Medici-nes Agency (AGEMED).

Derma Peel is a professional tool designed to renovate the appea-rance of the face, achieving softer, more even skin. Its efficacy is based on the combination of five exfoliation techniques in one session; physical abrasion, ultrasound-based micro derma abrasion (optional), chemical acid exfoliation, enzymatic diges-tion and biological exfoliation.

SKEYNDOR revolutionised the professional cosmetic sector with Eternal, the first treatment that uses plant origin stem cells for a long-lasting anti-age treatment.

The hundreds and thousands of cells making up the epidermis evolve from a few hundred supercells which produce them on a daily basis. They are the skin’s adult stem cells.
