2. General

2.1. FundamentalsTheCaptureShopSoftwareprovidesaccesstothecameraandisresponsiblefordatamanagement.WithCaptureShopyouopen,viewandprocesstheimagesinordertofilethemortoexportthemtoanimagemanipulationprogram(suchasPhotoshop).Thissoftwareisincludedfreeofchargewiththeproduct.UpgradescanalsobedownloadedfreeofchargefromtheSinarhomepage(www.sinar.ch).

3. Adaptions

3.1. Attaching the Sinar m / Medium-Format Camera AdapterTheAdapterPlateisattachedtotheSinarbackbymeansoffourrecessedscrewsthataresuppliedwithintheAdapterkit.Careshouldbetakennottotighteneachscrewallthewayinonestep,buttotighteneachonealittleatatime,goingaroundseveraltimes,soastoavoidskewingtheadapterframe.

A. RemovetheprotectiveCCDcoverfromtheSinarDigitalBack.B. AttachtheSinarAdapterPlatetotheSinarbackbyfirstinsertingallfourscrewslightly andthengraduallytighteningthemalittleatatime,alternatingworkingoneachscrew diagonallyfromeachotheruntilallofthemarefastenedsecurely.C. WhentheSinarbackistobestoredafterbeingused,pleaseusetheprotectiveCCD coverthatissuppliedwiththeSinarback.D. AttachtheSinarbacktothecamera.


3.2 Sinar p3 View Camera

AssemblyTheAdapterPlateisattachedtotheSinarbackbymeansoffourrecessedscrewsthataresuppliedwithit.Innocaseshouldthethreered-sealedscrewsontheSinarbackbeturned.Whenthesesealsarebroken,allSinarPhotographyAGwarrantiesbecomevoid.

A. RemovetheCCDprotectivecoverfromtheSinarbackDigitalBack.B. AttachtheSinarbackeVolutiontotheAdapterPlatebyfirststartingthe fourscrewslooselyandonlythentighteningthemgraduallyinseveralsteps,alternating thesestepsdiagonally.C. BeforestoringtheSinarbackaway,attachtheCCDprotectivecoverthatis suppliedwithit.D. CoupletheSinarbackeVolution75HtoyourSinarp3viewcamera,by: a)aligningthebottomedgeoftheAdapterPlatewiththecorrespondingledgeofthe camera, b)thenpresstheAdapterPlatetothecamerauntilitengages. c)Bygraspingit,makesurethattheAdapterPlateisengagedsecurely,sothattheSinar backcannotfalloff.E. Attachthedesiredlenstothefrontstandardofthecameraandverifythatthebellows hasbeenassembledcorrectly,sothattheimagedatacanbetransmittedproperlyfrom theSinarbacktothesoftware.


Flash connectionTheX-synccableforcontrollingtheflashgeneratorhastobeattachedtotheX-contactofyourca-mera.

HandlingBecausethisadaptationcanonlybeusedintheslavemode,exposurescannotbetriggeredbymeansoftheshutterreleasebuttononthecamera.Exposurescanbetriggeredinthefollowingmanner:a)viathecomputer,eitherbyusingtheuserinterfaceorbyusingthekeyboard.b)bymeansofManualCableRelease493.03.060attachedtotherespectiveconnector.

BypressingtheshutterreleasethatislocatedontheAdapterPlateforSinarp3.Thisshutterreleasehastwopressurepoints:Thefirstpressurepointactivatestheexposuremeteringonthecamera.Thesecondpressurepointtriggerstheexposure.

StorageWhentheSinarbackisnotmountedonthecamera,westronglyrecommendthattheCCDProtectiveCoverisalwaysbeattachedtotheSinarbacktoprotectitandtheCCDsensorfromdirtandphysicaldamage.


4. Sinarback eVolution Connections

FireWire IEEE 1394B ConnectionYoucanconnecttheSinarbackeVolutiondirectlytothecomputer.Inthisoperatingmode,theimagedatafilesarestoreddirectlyontheharddiskofyourcomputer.TheSinarbackeVolutionisequippedwithaFireWire interface,whichis locatedonthe leftbottomof theback.UsetheFireWirecablesuppliedwithittoconnecttheSinarbackeVolutiontoyourcomputer.

5. Starting the Capturing Software

Thissectiondescribesthefirstactivationofthesoftware.ThefollowingstepswillonlybenecessarywhenyouuseyourSinarbackeVolutionforthefirsttimewiththesoftwareandwhenthereferencefileisnottransmitteddirectlyfromtheinternalmemoryofthedigitalbacktothecomputer.PlacetheCD-ROMwiththecameradata(CCDfiles)suppliedwiththeSinarbackintheCDROMdrive.ThisCDcontainsthecamera-specificdatathatisneededforthefirstactivationofthesoftware.StarttheSinarCaptureShopsoftware6.0orhigherbydouble-clickingontheprogramicon.DependingontheFirmwareinstalledintheSinarbackeVolution,aninformationwindowwillappearonthescreenafterafewsecondsandtherespectivedataontheCDinthedrivewillbecopiedautomatically.Theinstallationwillbecompletedinanotherfewseconds,afterwhichtheCDwillnolongerbeneeded,sothatitcanberemovedandstoredaway.

ATTENTION: Please store this CD in a safe place, because it constitutes the original ReferenceData CD.


6. Cleaning the sensor

Forcleaningthesensor,SinarrecommendstheDigitalCleaningSet551.33.090thatissuppliedwiththe Sinarback eVolution.This set consists of high-grade, lint-free microfiber cleaning cloths fromthecleanroom,plusaclothholderandtwovialswithcleaningfluids.-AgentBlue(thebluecleaningfluid) is suitable for preliminary cleaning of stubborn, greasy blemishes. It can also be used as acleaningfluidwhereverawetsurfaceisaccessiblesothatitcanbegentlywipeddry. Inaddition,thefluidcanbeusedwhenthereisnodangerofelectroniccomponentsbeingdamagedbyelectricdischarges.Atthebeginningofthedryingprocedure,theanti-staticadditiveleaveswipingmarks,whichdisappearasthewipingprogresses.Dustparticlesadherelessstubbornlytothecleanedsurfaces,sothattheyareeasiertoremove.ATTENTION:CCDglassesmustnotbecleanedwithAgentBlue!Colorless,highlypurifiedEthanolisrecommendedforcleaningsurfacesaftertheyhavebeenpre-cleanedwithAgentBlue.Ethanolisge-nerallyappropriateforuseonsurfacesthatarenotaccessibleforbeingwipeddryorwherewipingisnotpermittedbecauseofthedangerofelectrostaticdischarges.Thecleaningclothmustalwaysbeadequatelywetted,otherwisestriationsmayappearafterthespontaneousevaporationoftheetha-nol.Ifthecleaningclothissoakedexcessively,residueswillformattheendsofthewipingstrokes.ATTENTION:CCDglassesshouldONLYbecleanedwithethanol!

Importanttips•Cleanhandsandpurecleaningfluidsareessentialforasuccessfulcleaningprocess.Handpers-piration,handcreamandotherresiduesonthecleaningclotharetransferredtothesurfacestobecleansed,thusmakingthejobmoredifficult.•Thesurfacesofopticalelementsshouldneverbetouchedwithbarefingers.Fingerprintsareverydifficulttoremoveandtheymayleavelastingblemishesbehind.•Thecombinationofdustandhumidityresultsinastickyfilmofdirtthatcloudsthesurfaces.Theairwebreatheoutalwayscontainshumidity.•Ifdustisremovedbyblowingonit,thehumidityofthewarmbreathcondensesonthecoolersur-facesintheformofminisculedroplets.Ifasurfaceisaccidentallybreathedupon,itshouldbewipedcleanverycarefullywhileitisstillhumid.•Wipingadrysurfaceintensivelywithadrycleaningclothwillcauseelectrostaticchargestobuildup,whosedischargemaydestroysensitiveelectroniccomponents.


VeryspecialcaremustthereforebeexercisedwhencleaningtheIR-blockingfilterandtheCCDglass.Furthermore,electrostaticallychargedsurfacesattractdustparticlesfromtheirsurroundings.•OnlyusethematerialsincludedintheSinarcleaningset.Thesematerialsweretestedthorough-lybySinar toensure theirsuitabilityandcompatibility.Theuserwillbe responsible fordamagescausedbytheuseofothercleaningmaterials.•Meticulouslycarefuluseofthetipofaveryfinebrushorthetipofatinyspongecanbeemplyedforremovingindividualdustparticlesfromasurface.Whenthereismorethanjustalittledust,shortbrushstokesmustbeappliedfromthecentertowardstheoutside.Thebrushshouldbeappliedtothesurfaceverylightly.•Caremustbeusedwhenblowingawaydustparticleswithcompressedairfromacan.Conden-sationmaycausetheaccumulationofliquidinsidethecan.Thereforeabasicprecautionbeforeanapplicationistocheckwhethertheairfromthespraycanistrulydry.Tothatend,beforeblowingonthesurfacetobecleaned,alwaysfirstsprayairfromanappropriatedistancetowardsthefloorinordertoclearthenozzleofanyaccumulatedliquid.Sinarrecommends„UltrajetDusterSystemRefillCans“fromChemtronics.•Itisveryimportanttocarefullyremoveanyloosedustparticlesbeforewipingasurface.•Neveruseadrycleaningclothtowipeadusty,uncleanedsurface,becausethedirtparticlesbeingrubbedintothesurfacemaycreatescratchesonthosesurfaces.Thewipingmovementshouldbeperformedwithoutpressureanditshouldalwaysbeinonedirectiononly(notbackandforth).•Avisibledifferencebetweenacleanedandanuntreatedareaafterapartialcleaningofasurfaceindicatesthepresenceofalargesoiledareathatwillrequireanoverallcleaningofthecompletesur-face.Insuchcases,theentiresurfaceshouldbewipedinonlyonedirection(notbackandforth),andinuninterrupted,continuousstrokesacrossthewholesurface.Thecleaningclothshouldbefoldedaftereachwipingprocedureinsuchawaythattheusedportionwillnotbeinuse.•Wipingmotionsacrossprotrudingorsharpedges,whichwouldoccurwhentheareatobecleanedisframedbyaraisededge,mustbeavoidedatalltimes.Inthatsituation,firstwipethesurfacealongtheedgeandthenwipeitjusttotheedge,butnotacrossit.


•Neverletthecleaningfluiddripdirectlyonthesurfacetobecleaned,alwaysapplyittothecleaningclothfirst.•Afterthewet-cleaningwithanon-volatile(slowly-drying)cleaningfluidandaclean,drycleaningcloth,carefullywipethesurfacedryfromthecentertotheedges(notbackandforth)inordertoavoidresidualdryingmarks.•Ifdryingresiduesarestillvisibleafterthefirstcleaningprocedure,theprocedureshouldberepea-tedcarefullywithafreshcleaningcloth.Ifrepeatedcleaningeffortsdonotyieldthedesiredresults,thecleanlinessofthecleaningclothsandthecleaningfluidsshouldbeexamined.
